Scrap Galaxy

Scrap Galaxy

The first game from Catalope Games is just as great as it looks.

For starters, it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Fast paced action for 1-4 players as well as lots and lots of fun.

Recommended for anyone who likes party games, geometry wars or just indie games in general.

The camera is the biggest enemy in the game. It does and WILL pull you into asteroids, enemies, and bombs.

Trapper’s Delight

Trapper’s Delight

The strategy counterpart to Ultimate Chicken Horse.

Many of you have probably player UCH, which is a frantic game with no time limits on rounds, but utilizes platforming mechanics, traps, and coins as each person vies for the top score. Trapper’s is similar in some of these regards, but differs on multiple key aspects:

First, the graphics of Trappers is a 3d-Poly design versus the drawn 2d graphics of UCH

Trappers has a time limit on rounds, but also the pace of movements is ‘calmer’ and more strategic

Summary

I played this with multiple family members on local multiplayer and it was a lot of fun. This is a great game if you have multiple controller devices to use (e.g. a keboard and a gamepad). There’s also a bit of game rules customization. You can exclude certain traps and pick which maps will be played on. It’s a little difficult to view the maps you’re choosing since they are tiny, but it’s doable.

There’s a Level Editor now!

You can make levels and upload/download them from the Steam Workshop! I think if people make challenging maps that you can do by yourself, this should solve the problem for singleplayer content in this game. I made a few challenge and puzzle levels myself and I think this game now has the potential for great content creation independent of the developer making it. Speaking of the level editor, it’s really simple and easy to use.

A severely underrated local multiplayer gem!

The fact that it supports up to 8 is great, but we had loads of fun with just the 4 of us! The best part was when someone would develop a winning strategy, and everyone else ganged up to find a counter to it. The game felt like a constant leap frog of trying to utilise some new exploit, only for everyone to tear you back down!

Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion

Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion

I first had to learn all the different effects of each cube in the tutorial, but then I won against the easy AI which was rewarding and the explosions are very cool. The local multiplayer mode is also cool. I played with my wife. It’s going to be very sophisticated to win against her, I fear ;)

If you like real-time puzzle games or RTS, chances are you will love this game. Players have to stick cubes to each other that serve as a defense against enemy projectiles as well as launching projectiles on their own. Each single cube is pretty simple - one launches fireballs in a straight line, for example - but they can be combined to manipulate projectile positioning, launch strong combo attacks, reflect enemy attacks and much more.

The game manages to keep a great balance between frantic real-time action and strategic thinking. Even if you’re in a really tough spot, chances are that a few well-chosen moves can get you back on track. Gravity is a thing, and falling cubes break, so if you manage to hit the base of the enemy’s structure, one fireball can let their entire majestic structure collapse. It’s glorious.

Blockships

Blockships

Now this game… I’m so happy I went to EGX: just for finding out about this game. You will not find anothergame quite like this. It is so fun. The game is so well refined, being a bit fiddly to rotate blocks and remove blocks from corners of a cube structure. But this shouldn’t push your choice away from it. If you think you could enjoy it, even if the features such as online multiplayer and bots arn’t there yet, support it, buy it, try to get some friends to try it out with you.

Bottom line is you won’t regret backing this game as that £4.99 / $6.25 / €5.89 will aid these talented people form a full game of content.

Been playing Blockships for a long time, at various trade shows, and it’s just pure unadulterated fun. Everyone from young to old gets it immediately and then it’s just game after game of explosions, laughter, and victorious cheering.

It’s easy to pick up but there’s a great amount of depth and strategic awareness to the gameplay. You try to keep track of both the contents and positioning of your opponents' ship parts, the blocks scattered around the level, and the blocks you have available. Building to counter opponents on-the-fly is super unique, and the entire battlefield can change in an instant with a skillfully placed shot.

Bonkies

Bonkies

I played this game some while it was in Early Access but waited to play the rest and to review for once it was fully out.

Bonkies is a great couch co-op game that has a great visual style and is a ton of fun. Everyone that I’ve played it with has had a great time. My girlfriend who is not much of a gamer loves it. It’s worked great with Steam’s remote play to play co-op online with other friends.

Even though the single player campaign is definitely not the game’s focus, and it is admittedly short (it took me an hour to Ace it, but new players probably 3-4 hours), I had a great time player the single player campaign as well.

About the game:

Well, the gameplay is pretty simple. Every of the (up to) 4 players is playing one space monkey. Their task is to construct certain “buildings” in a limited time (usually around 3-5 minutes). Unfortunately these space monkeys have a heavy handycap: they all have only one arm. (Not sure who let them be in charge of the construction site but that’s another question).

The game mechanics rely on 50% communication with the other players (since you can’t lift objects very well on yourself alone) telling them where to move, what to do next. The other half is actually some creativity since it’s not always clear how to build these desired objects. You only get a shape of what’s expected and are left alone trying (or imagining) how it fits best.

Tricky Towers

Tricky Towers

Very fun game if you have friends to play with, sadly a bit overpriced

Real player with 22.2 hrs in game

One of the best puzzle games on Steam, with lots of challenges to wrap your brain around in singleplayer, and fun times against friends in multiplayer. And it’s the kind of game where you can just spend hours trying to beat your record, failing, and then going “alright, just one more time”.

The biggest challenge present in all gamemodes is how to properly balance your tower once it becomes too tall, so I hope you have some good notions of physics at that point.

8/10, +1 if you don’t get angry by the “perfect fit” pieces not fitting perfectly.

Few words about the game

Collider is a great, colorful arcade game with non-stop energetic gameplay, from the very beginning of it. You get to choose from one of 5 different game types, each with its own unique rules and variety of amazing music in background. Singleplayer is good and challenging as it’s quite hard to achieve good scores alone. Multiplayer however is epic and terribly addictive, I can’t wait for another opportunity to play with someone else, it’s just too good!

Automata Break

Automata Break

An excellent VR game. It’s pretty immersive, very strategical and skill rewarding, smooth locomotion doesn’t get you dizzy and playing it with a friend in Multiplayer (PC/VR) makes for a lot of time of fun without you both having to own a VR headset.

This is a truly awesome game! If you like Tower Defense games at all, you have to get this one. Not only can you play with the help of someone else on your computer, you can play alone in VR.

I really like how the VR player can actually go from tabletop Tower Defense, and get immersed in the action by transforming into the map, and help your towers fight the invaders.

My only complaint thus far is even in normal difficulty, it is still very difficult to progress to the different stages. I hope the developer gives the old guys like me an Easy version soon. Awesome graphics as well at a great price of less than $20.
