Boom Dojo is an improvement of Groove Balls, the previous VR music rhythm game from this same developer. Unfortunately, as it stands now, this game is still inferior to the average VR music rhythm game. There are much better VR music rhythm games out there.

There’s a disappointing lack of content. The game only has 1 map and 4 in-game songs. The core gameplay is not as polished as in other VR music rhythm games. While you are punching the matching colored object to your red or blue tattooed hand (or optionally also dodging bars) with music playing, the procedurally generated beatmap doesn’t really go with the beat of said music. At least you can play your own songs by moving your mp3s to your music folder.

It doesn’t look like much and it won’t teach you technique, but I actually found this to be one of the best VR boxing punch pad trainers out there. The patterns have just enough variation to keep me on my toes and I like how the difficulty dynamically scales up as you do well. Many of the other boxing trainers I’ve played force you to break important habits or are too focused on being a rhythm game. I wish this was less bare bones, maybe have an option that adds a little circling footwork and blocking, but it’s a good start.

I know I’ll get fitter playing this game.

What the hell is a burpee? What is this one handed push-up nonsense? Squats I’m good with, running is fine, jumping without hands above my head is great. Punching the discs is fine. The points system is mad, I couldn’t compete in a points table in this unless there’s a dad-bod mode tiered system for middle-aged e-sport leagues.

This game has taught me much about my fitness levels. 1) I’m not fit enough to complete 30 minutes inside this game with a high score. 2) it doesn’t matter, because even if I do half of what the game is asking of me, I’m still moving and that’s an improvement on sitting on my arse at the desk.

5/5! Great improvements, new features, and updated songs, thank you!

  2. Wear the controllers like wrist watches.

  3. Wash/disinfect your face gasket regularly. Steam Support recommended warm water or 15-30% alcohol wipes.

I’ve been playing this since it came out. I love this game so much that, even though I bent/broke my cable, Steam sent me a new cable and I still love this game!

Very fun game, start a little slow, good for kids and training ;) but after some levels the fun starts, I liked the shape that make you turn and move your arm and body. I suggest to developer to include new peaces formats for the next levels and custom songs, but it’s nice I recommend it

BoomXR

BoomXR

‘BoomXR’ is yet another boxing style rhythm game of the likes we have already seen lots of times before. Only this time you will be fighting invisible ninjas with punches of the corresponding colour to your fists in time with the music. The good news is the 5 tracks on offer are not terrible and the beat mapping seems to be mostly OK. You can even use your own music, but of course, the beat mapping will be terrible.

I get that £3.99 is a small price, but I just don’t think this game offers even enough content at that small price. Using the Oculus Rift I also found the punching hands off-angle and the gameplay far too frantic to be called fun. There are a few different game modes, but they are mostly all the same. It is not something I am willing to recommend just yet, but with a few improvements (especially to the learning difficulty) I could see that opinion changing.

BoomXR is a Free to Play VR Beat Boxing game. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You have five default tracks included and you can add your own mp3s by making a folder in your music folder, then place them there. There is a tutorial video that you can watch of what you should strive for in the boxing training. You have options to make the game harder. Nice lobby, and you can change the color scheme. The ninjas was a nice touch, and you can turn off the ninjas. This game was paid product at one time, now it is free to play.

Boot Camp Fitness

Boot Camp Fitness

First of all I’d like to commend the developer for putting the time and effort in on creating this program. I used to use Fitness programs several years ago in Xbox and Wii (such as Yourself Fitness), and I have been longing for something similar for the PC. So well done!

Some aspects of the game, such as the interface and resolution feel very basic and rushed, but given the price it is a very good deal.

Overall the game does what it states, as it provides complete exercise sessions divided into three difficulties. You have the option to customize the kind of exercise that you want (e.g. disable strength training, enable abs training), even though this could have been more detailed. Also, you can set the duration of the session. Finally, the soundtrack is excellent and well suited to this kind of program.

Hey everyone and this is my review about the game!

This is a home workout game.

Interface/Menu/Settings

  • There are no resolution sizes available.

  • You can increase the resolution size by dragging the borders of the game window.

  • Only windowed mode.

  • The game has no advanced graphics and the graphics are simple.

  • There is no color blind mode.

AmIHero

AmIHero

A game that seems to have slightly twisted the sports game concept

First, practice the sport you chose in the first step.

When you go to the main stage, a person named Master gives you a suspicious mission.

Strange missions are similar to how you exercise in the first stage, so you play naturally.

I thought it was a simple game, but when I play, I throw, hit, and sweat.

So I think the exercise effect is good.

Because it’s a VR game, you have to shake your arms around, so if you do something wrong, the monitor can be damaged.

Real player with 8.3 hrs in game

I think it’s perfect for me who like both casual games and sports games.

In the tutorial stage, it’s a sport, but in the main game it turns into a casual game.

It’s unfortunate that there are only 4 types of sports in Early Access, but it would be better if other sports were added later.

It’s good to enjoy lightly.

BOXVR

BOXVR

The good thing about this game is that it’s the best workout vr game.

The bad thing about this game is that it’s unfortunately the only proper workout game.

Take any boxing vr game, combine it with beat saber and take away the “game” part and you get yourself a boxvr. What I didn’t like about beat saber was that for a workout purpose it focused too much on a wrist movement and with intense “hard” songs it could interrupt your workout by showing you game over. None of that here. You are forced to move your entire body to hit cues. And while patterns are simpler, you can focus on doing proper movements that actually train your body instead of fumbling when things are going too intense, As for comparison with other boxing games, what I didn’t like in a lot of them is that they are basically waiting games. You wait for an opening, you also need to learn how to read animations and then you make a few quick punches which don’t feel satisfying as you can feel no feedback so it’s like punching a balloon figure. Here you punch abstract orbs, so your brain doesn’t expect any feedback from punching those, and you get feedback! Orbs explode with confetti and a satisfying thud. You also don’t need to wait for opportunity to punch as orbs come at you constantly and there is almost no learning curve in reading your oponent. Everything is simplified to just make you move. And if you fail a few punches nothing stops, just keep on punching. Your calorie counter will go up anyway. Oh, did I forget? There is a calorie counter. It’s like a no brainer to have it in a workout game but almost no other game has it!

Real player with 320.3 hrs in game

I might only have an hour and a half in this game, but I’ve given it a full runthrough and feel like it’s time to share my thoughts.

The good:

  • Automatic mapping. It’s just… amazing. It feels completely designed, and even responds fantastically to songs that have different tempos throughout. Set up a playlist that goes from slow to intense, and it’ll do something that matches it. There are sensible patterns that the mapping follows, and it’s all flawlessly on-beat.

  • Suitability for purpose. This is the VR workout game. Put wrist weights on (consult your GP) and have a ball going for a guided shadowboxing workout. It feels great, the moves are great, and it has everything you’d expect from a workout title. Playlists, calorie tracking, difficulty adjustment, great feedback, different environments.
