Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match

Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match

Titles based on some old physical game are almost always a good choice, as long as the developer does not stumble along the way! Fortunately, Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match is no exception. The implementation of this version is impeccable, and the fun from the original game is undoubtedly present here.

Solving all puzzle levels is easy. But finishing them within the sugested number of moves is not so easy.

Solving 5 levels in less moves then sugested, is a real challenge.

Recommended game for puzzle lovers and achievements hunters.

World of Art - learn with Jigsaw Puzzles

WoA is the best jigsaw puzzle game imo. I call it ゴジラ (Godzilla) in this category. 1. Lots of various painting style puzzles, 2. User friendly like easy to zoom in and out or turn timer on for competition and off for relaxation, 3. Zoom in to learn how to draw, 4. Good in-game relaxing classical music or listen to your own music, songs or hymns through external media players, 5. New puzzles will be added for free. Highly recommended!!!

World of Art has scratched an itch for me, namely art-themed jigsaw puzzles. I like to play puzzle games on my android tablet while watching baseball or the news. All well and good but with way too many cute puppies & kittens, food arrangements, etc.

This app is paintings and nothing but. Not all masterpieces but there’s plenty to choose from. Although for some reason, the selection is quite heavily skewed towards 19th Century works and in comparison the Renaissance era gets short shrift. And while the image resolution holds up at max zoom, the color palettes show less than satisfactorily on some of the pictures.

Lara Croft GO

Lara Croft GO

A great Puzzle game with a lot of cool mechanics and awesome graphics.

There is nothing connected with Lara Craft series except Lara Croft. I played some games earlier, they were made in action/RPG setting with a lot of dialogues and story. There is no story, there is no action and RPG elements. There are just Lara and a lot of puzzles :D

The game is turn-based puzzle game. There is no hurry, so you have a lot of time to think. Levels are small, so even if you die, you don’t need to make a lot of same actions again.

After the excellent Hitman GO, it would have been trivial to follow up with another game in a similar gameboard based world, just putting in the certainly much more attracrive Lara in place of 47. However, Square Enix Montreal took the high road, and ended up with something much more, and also much less… at least it looked like that for quite a while. Bear with me, this review is going to be of the long-a**ed persuasion.

By taking the high road, I mean that SqEM invented a completely different environment for the turn-based puzzles of Lara Croft GO. They chose to look like an old-school platform game set in 3D, surreptitiously inserting visual extras like dynamic lighting and smoothed edges into the decidedly low-poly environment. As a result, the game’s more closed-in spaces look simply very good, and then they open to beautiful vistas, sometimes containing not-yet-seen (or already seen) parts of the environments. The jungle / cave complex is rather static, so it’s all the more intense when some action like unfriendly animals or giant boulders happen. Massively adding to the atmosphere are the excellent sounds like gates crashing down behind, underlining the impossibility of going back, or the restrained soundtrack that’s maybe more a soundscape. In short, the game provides one of the best “being there” feeling I’ve ever encountered, and it’s pure joy to walk through the game’s levels, basically uninterrupted…

Ogre

Ogre

*** Updated for v1.2.2.0 ***

Short TL:DR - A faithful translation of the original boardgame with lots of potential, but still rough around some edges. Overall, good enough to get your “fix” for classic Ogre, but G.E.V. is still a ways off and some minor bugs still need to be addressed. I currently rate it a 4 out of 5 (previously rated at 3.5).

I’m going to try to itemize the good and bad as much as possible so you get an accurate view of what the game (v1.2.2.0) looks like. I was part of the beta test and there are a lot of things that have been improved since the beta, but there’s still more work to do.

I have experience with the Ogre 6th Edition board game, and this game feels very similar.

One thing I very much appreciate is that there are a few mechanics in place to speed games up. In the board game, if you target an Ogre’s treads, you have to fire individually with each unit doing so. In this PC game, you select your target first (like, the treads) then select every unit in range, and the game rolls for them all in sequence, faster than selecting each one individually. You can also stack multiple units on the same hex and move them as a group, which speeds up the process of closing with the opponent.

Magic Lessons in Wand Valley - a jigsaw puzzle tale

A lovely puzzle game with a simple story to go along with the wonderful colours and excellent design. This is a game for jigsaw puzzle fans. There are only six separate pictures, and the challenge comes from playing with more and more pieces. The artwork is outstanding, especially if you like the fantasy genre (wizards in particular). This game could be suitable for younger players at the 135-piece level; however, there is enough depth to entertain experienced puzzlers.

Pros:

  • art design

  • puzzle design (clearly thought went into how the light effects add to challenge and interest)

I really like this jigsaw puzzle game. The illustrations are beautiful and tell a simple but nice story. The modes with different amount of pieces lets you play for many hours. The music is very comforting and keeps you in the mood. It has some nice features to help setting up the puzzles. The entire series from the studio is worth playing. Recommended!

Spacious Snake

Nice puzzle game that uses simple mechanics but manages to offer a lot of nice challenges. You play as a snake , but you must plan your moves carefully as some movement restrictions are in place. Overall, the game is a nice time-killer for puzzle fans.

A very simple mechanic, but different with different levels, but very well thought out. I loved the whole game itself, the soundtrack, the way the difficulty gradually evolves, the visuals and even the feeling of satisfaction when finishing a level. idea very well thought out and executed 10/10.
