I only got this game because I grew up doing puzzles and I like fantasy art. The art is typical female-based fantasy art and the pictures are nice. There are 20 different pictures. They follow the D&D and fantasy art concept that less armor is more when it comes to female characters.

To complete the 100 achievements, you have to do each puzzle 5 times. Each puzzle has 12, 24, 48, 96, and 192 pieces. Obviously, the fewer piece options are very easy. The 96 and 192 piece options take longer. Some of the 192 piece puzzles took me between 20-30 minutes. There is a hint option, but I didn’t use it other than to see what it was. You can also save the puzzle that you are working on and go back to it.

Faerie Solitaire Remastered

Faerie Solitaire Remastered

I’ve given this remaster 10 hours now and made notes on the differences, and I feel like I can do a decent review now. Disclaimer: I love the original Faerie Solitaire. I got it on sale for 99 cents, and I love it enough that twice now I’ve deleted the game file that keeps track of the in-game feats (not the Steam achievements) so that I could have a more legitimate reason to play it more. I’m not nearly as enamored with this version, so I’ll start with the cons.

7.5/10

I finally decided to give this solitaire game a try after seeing it mentioned as a favorite by users in their reviews of various other solitaire games. I waited for a while to see if it would go on sale, but this apparently has never happened.

Initially, I can see the appeal. In Faerie Solitaire, you collect “eggs” while playing levels, which you can then “hatch.” A creature is then revealed which will grow as you continue to play. Once the creature is “grown,” you can spend a combination of three different resources (also found within the levels) to “evolve” the creature. As far as I can tell, these creatures have no impact at all on completing the game’s solitaire levels – however, they provide an additional progress bar and goal to pursue for players.

I’ve got all of the Expansion Packs with the game. It was a great deal on Steam with the bundle. I really enjoy working on these puzzles. It’s stress relief and really neat on seeing the finished project each time. It’s a casual game and you don’t have to worry about time. Just enjoy and that’s it.

Mind Games

Mind Games

Mind Games is a puzzle game that states that it will exercise your mind, but to the point where you want to pull your hair out.

Graphics:

The graphics remind me of the nostalgia 90s pc games. Some are crisp and some are cheap. Not much detail going on.

Music:

This is a mixed subject, as some people have said that they ripped music from other pc games. Reviewing it standalone, it is basically Midi-style music. The problem is, when you minimize and maximize the game, the music changes and/or repeats itself, which is annoying.

Eight.Domino.Heart

Eight.Domino.Heart

Eight.Domino.Heart is a minimalist logic puzzle game about fitting dominoes into the interlocking slots of the board.

The rules of Eight.Domino.Heart are very simple.

Corner to Corner ≤ the new domino’s side is less than or equal to the old domino’s side

= Top to Bottom = the new domino’s end is equal to the old domino’s end

With 100+ levels and a variety of puzzle challenges to complete in each one, Eight.Domino.Heart is a deeply satisfying and thoroughly relaxing single-player spin on the classic game of dominoes.

🁬 Puzzle fans, treat your mind to Eight.Domino.Heart! 🁶

It’s really cute. There’s something really pleasant about mooching about and filling one’s wheelbarrow and planning things and working out how to get your assistants back and just enjoying the mechanics. I enjoyed it more playing as a beginner against another beginner and exploring. I first thought there wasn’t enough interaction but actually the two lira cost to visit somewhere where one’s opponent’s assistant is standing can be subtly quite depleting. I really like it so far after two solo games and one online with a friend, who also liked it.

Istanbul is a new addition to my list of favourite games. I do not own the physical game but cannot imagine how it could be different from this digital version.

Gameplay is turn-based on a 4X4 grid. You move your game piece around the board, selecting your own route and performing a different action on each of the 16 tiles. The object of the game is to be the first to collect 5 rubies through the collection and sale/trade of goods. You can initially carry only a limited number of goods and travel only a short distance, but your abilities are augmented throughout the game by purchasing wagon upgrades and mosques. There are many paths to victory and the ability for some mild interference amongst players. I find the game a good mix of strategy with plenty of tactical decisions, and I like that you have control of your own fate and play style.

Dark Fantasy 2: Jigsaw Puzzle

Dark Fantasy 2: Jigsaw Puzzle

tl;dr: puzzle game to calm down after a stressful day. Can be played one-handed, but this audience is better served elsewhere. This is art, not some cheap manga stuff. @Devs: waiting for Dark Fantasy 3, 4, 5 and counting, will definitely buy them too!

Long version: Relaxing puzzle game, second installment, which is better in any aspect than its predecessor. You can play 24 aesthetic fantasy images which are of high and consistent quality and you can split it into more pieces to increase the difficulty.

If you like puzzles and you liked the first game, you should like this one. If you are a puzzle traditionalist, go buy a real, physical, tabletop puzzle since you might not like the fact that you can’t rotate pieces or put pieces together outside the main puzzle itself. However, being able to rotate pieces would also make the puzzle much more difficult for a number of reasons.

My only complaints are the same as the first game. The boards and some areas of the puzzles can be very dark, making it hard to even see if a piece is missing. And you can still just move pieces all over the board until they finally find a home.

Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match

Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match

Titles based on some old physical game are almost always a good choice, as long as the developer does not stumble along the way! Fortunately, Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match is no exception. The implementation of this version is impeccable, and the fun from the original game is undoubtedly present here.

Solving all puzzle levels is easy. But finishing them within the sugested number of moves is not so easy.

Solving 5 levels in less moves then sugested, is a real challenge.

Recommended game for puzzle lovers and achievements hunters.

Knight Swap 2

Knight Swap 2

The fight for racial equality continues as green, purple, red, and yellow knights are required to get along to make their way home. Can they trust their fellow knights to guide them to their goals? There are trapdoors this time, so they better hope so.

The Good:

  • It gets very challenging. As of writing this, 12.1% of players made it past level 30 and 5.6% completed the game.

  • The puzzles are actually challenging.

  • The game offers up some new gimmicks along with the old: trapdoors, portals tandem pieces, board flipping, 4 different colors for pieces, and tandem switches.

Not great, but good considering the cheap price

This sequel retains all the mechanics of the first game, while adding 3 new ones which happen to make it significantly harder than its predecessor. These mechanics are:

1. vanishing tiles: tiles which disappear once they are no longer occupied after being activated;

2. linked pieces: some knights have a light on the back of their necks. The light can be in 3 possible positions: top, middle or bottom of the neck. When you move a knight with a light, others with the same light pattern will copy its movement, as long as there is an available tile for them to move to.
