Gremlins, Inc.
I saw adverts of this game while it was still in beta stage. The peculiar character of the graphics made the whole intriguing but I suspended with the purchase till Gremlins, Inc. left pre-release state. Watched some gameplay videos but without sufficient knowledge of the rules I could only tell that the game has really strong influence on the players. In fact only the description of available achievements made me realize the depth of the Gremlins, Inc. and convinced me to add it to my Winter Sale basket.

This is a virtual board game with a strong focus on strategy in a non-deterministic setting, requiring probabilistic reasoning (think of poker).
The game is set in a steampunk society of (genderless) gremlins that see the purpose of their existance in grabbing power and profit by tricking and cheating each other. The design of the game material is in a hand-drawn cartoonesque style and visually appealing. Also the available music kits (to be won as prices in free-to-open chests) are a nice feature.

Silicon Valley Investor
Huh, I surprised when it finished suddenly at the end of the 25th investment year. Even if it was stated at the beginning I missed that point. I am disappointed for it, 25 is a short period I think. Isn’t it possible a 30 years old people, starting investment with 300-400k and S/he can live 60 more years.
Why did I restricted to buy a limited amount of company share? If I had enough money, I should buy whatever I want.
I did not interested with social skills at the beginning (because I don’t know it will end after 25 years.), so I have no idea about this part.

Lux Alliance
This is a simple strategy boardgame, but that simplicity allows for a lot of interesting strategic game play. The combat system resembled the classic Axis And Allies board game rules, but with only two unit types – attack (armor, knight), and defense (infantry). Like that game, you can only build new units in your factory (or castle or city or whatever it gets called).
Unlike most board games (but like Diplomacy), all moves are simlutaneous. Every player issues orders to all units, then when all are complete they all execute at once. This makes attacking a risk, as you must move defending units off a territory in order to attack. Your opponent and you can actually exchange territories.

I’ve enjoyed this game when I had the regular PC version before as well. It’s something halfway between Risk, and Axis and Allies. There’s more than one kind of unit buuut only two kinds, lol. Additionally though you can also place a new production center. It' also simove, so you have to anticipate what the other powers will do. There are a variety of all against all and team scenarios as well difficulty levels. Within the difficulty levels there are a number of different AIs to play against. The variety of maps to play is fairly extensive - all different eras, themes, some areas, some point to point, some hex grids. I recommend it for those who like Risk level of strategy with a little extra.

Lux Delux
Risking it All
Lux Delux is a Risk game where you play on technically an infinite variety of maps and control various “pieces” as you attempt to defeat your opponents. This plays very much like a board game with very little strategy to it. You’re going to find yourself just build doom stacks of units and then plowing through enemy territory. At the same time, there is immense satisfaction as you finally plow through enemy stacks and make the entire board your color. The unique boards you can play with that users created can range from plain to superb and complex. Despite having the exact same mechanics every time, seeing these new environments and moving your units throughout them makes you feel like you’re conquering completely new areas. Even the hex-based maps that seem to be abundant have their own unique flair to them. This game is not particularly hard, even on hard AI so I recommend at least playing on medium even if you’re a more casual gamer.

Game Summary:
I’m sure there are several different board games this would be similar to, but when I look at it, it reminds me of Risk. Risk isn’t as notorious as Monopoly is for being a relationship-ruining, hours-long game, but from the times I’ve played Risk it does tend to take a while. Plus, there can be some contention as to what rules or style to base the game off of, as randomly drawing cards can set someone up and screw other people. However, getting to select where to start also has some drawbacks as it can develop an immediate rivalry between two players whilst another can dodge the conflict and conspire against both. This rendition of the game offers the benefits of strategy and territory-conquering board games, without the need for physical space. It also would probably be faster since it’s pretty easy to set up different rules and situations without much effort.

Stupidest value purchase imaginable for anyone who’s a fan of any board game. Cheaper than any single board game and it’s an infinte amount, that’s scripted, requires no set up, clean up or local friends. What more could you ask for?

01/27/2021 - The developer e-mailed me and asked for the savegame files with the bugs, which I just e-mailed them.
01/22/2021 - I like the game in general. I play mostly Rummy, which is buggy and either hangs the game or makes it unplayable probably 1/40 hands. Typically when the issue occurs it’s when I trade a card for a joker or when I pick up a card from the either talon. It won’t register the trade or pickup correctly, forcing me to exit the game and restart it. Saving the game and reloading it will still have the bug in it. Based on the age of the game and company releasing other games, I suspect that they are probably no longer working on this one/fixing bugs, but if I’m wrong, I can certainly provide one of my save files with the bug to the developer if they request it.

The game works fine on my computer, 1920 x 1200, but on the wifes laptop, 1600 x 900, which is easily capable,as soon as the title page starts to vanish to go to the game screen, it crashes back to steam main page.
I’ve tried several tricks to get around this problem, to no avail. Is anyone else suffering this drawback. The wife really likes the game, but she can only play on MY computer. Could be a bigger problem.

Hnefatafl
This game the most fun I can find these days (coming from an experienced hobby chess player). Different rules and game types are available for the ancient Hnefatafl game that was played in the viking area before the advent of chess. Hnefatafl is an unbalanced game where the strategy for each side is very different. One side plays the defender and must escape with the king while the attackers rush to capture him. Because of this unbalance in the rules the computers are still no match for decent human players. Try for example the mode legacy berserk and you will find yourself at the top of the food chain in no time. The number of possible moves to play increases faster than in e.g. chess and go, making it hard to calculate and predict far ahead, especially for the larger boards. Because of this complexity and the unbalance in the rules it will take time for the computers to play well leaving the arena for us humans to compete using intuition to guide us. Maybe you have what it takes to come up with a new way to play and beat the current top ranked players?

This appears to offer everything you need if you are interested in this ancient game, including all the main variants, the ability to customise the game and rules and create your own variants. online play, synchronization with with the mobile phone version, decent graphics and interface, graphical mods, and great developers who listen to feedback and strive to keep improving the game.
I suggested an interface/display change to make the game look better on my monitor and screen resolution, and with a day or two an update was released with the idea implemented. Fantastic!

Nice way to play tabletop games with friends in these times.
good modding community, it’s brand new but everyday theres more and more great board games made.
Editor can be a bit tricky at first, but there’s a few tutorials available at the moment.
As i read somewhere else, Devs are working hard on this, so I guess there will be more advanced tutorials and definitively more features in the future.
I dont know anything about programming, and I managed to create all the 1st edition circuit boards for Formula D. Hopefully, the guy who created the formula D game (which is awesome btw) will use them.

If you’re thinking of buying Tabletop Playground (TP), you’ve probably heard of Tabletop Simulator (TTS). They are both digital tabletop sandbox games. In both games, certain card & board games are included, and they both have mod support so you can easily download even more card or board games. They both have online multiplayer and have VR and Non-VR support. TTS has been on Steam for years and is running on the Unity Engine. TP just released a few months ago and is running on the Unreal Engine. So which one is better?

The Curious Expedition is yet another Kickstarter-spawned entry into the ever-growing field of Rogue-Likes, but with a refreshing new twist. This time around, the player takes on the role of a small party of 19th-Century explorers engaged in a gentleman’s wager - to travel the world on six concurrent expeditions, competing to see who can gain the most fame. It’s a fairly quick and lethal game, but that’s exactly what it’s meant to be - a good way to kill a few hours at a time, running expedition after expedition off to their doom.

The Short Pitch
TCE is one of the best games in its class, a Roguelike-inspired strategy/adventure game that will leave you wanting more. Easy enough to beat several times in one day if you’re dedicated, yet hard enough to make every victory feel like you clawed your way to it from the depths of hades.
