7 Grand Steps: What Ancients Begat

7 Grand Steps: What Ancients Begat

Ok, I’ve played this game over a period of years and I’ve stared guiltily at the ‘Mixed’ ratings for about as long.

Simply put, I love dynasty builders, so I’m gonna recommend this game. There are so few games that allow me to try to play through a bunch of historical family drama and this is one of them.

It’s a strange game, to be sure–but in gaming, strange is never a bad thing. But it does mean that this game is niche and just because I recommend doesn’t mean I have any illusions that everybody will enjoy this game. Either you’ll love it or you’ll hate having spent money on it. I don’t know if you’ll completely hate it outright: it’s too hard to categorize. It’s a weird, simple, arcade-style game about an ancient family trying to move up through the ranks. The mechanics have been explained well in other reviews, but the gist is you play out entire lifetimes, getting hitched (or not), giving birth to children that are a pain to feed and keep from hating each other, and you’ll be prompted with all sorts of story events. You’ll often go up and down. An entire arc (pushing through each age, last I checked I think there were about three) would take 15 hours. Plenty of replay value, simply based on choices in story events.

Towards the end of the Copper Age, things were finally looking up for my family. After many years of being bottom dwellers in the social caste system my family discovered the “alphabet” and the art of being a “physician”. This thrust us into the upper middleclass, and my only daughter, Senet, became the best child this family had ever seen. She was above the other children in the village with an absolute understanding of science and literature. When Senet left to discover herself she took a sizable inheritence with her.

Light Fingers

Light Fingers

Light Fingers is a magical mechanical board game where thieves compete in a test of skills to prove who among them is the most deft! Explore a randomly generated miniature board world that unfolds before you as you roll dice and move around to explore.

Seek out shops where you’ll find cards to buy, special services for hire and chests of loot to plunder. Remember, always shop before you steal!

Raid Dungeons, where coins are a plenty, but deadly hazards are just as numerous. Here you will go up against your rivals who can defend the dungeon operating the traps while you attempt to loot its treasures.

Don’t get caught! Play your hand of cards strategically or buy favors from the local inhabitants to avoid the guards and other players as you work your way back to the thieves hideout.

I love the board game, it is one of my favorite board games, and this is actually a pretty good implementation of the board game. Unfortunately this digital version is as buggy as can be for multiplayer, and seems to have gotten worse over time. I would not recommend you purchase this game if you want to play against any actual people. I am generally pretty understanding of little bugs and things, but this game has not seen any attention in years and these issues definitely existed then as well.

Do not buy this! I have yet to be able to play a game online because no matter who tries to set up the room to play (me, or any of my friends who I convinced to get this game), the room will either (a) not be created, or (b) be created, but not allow anyone to join the game, sometimes going into a near infinite look of “Are you sure you want to join this room?” dialogs.

When a room is created, it looks like it is corrupt. My user name is KDLadage; the room name when I create the room is “’s RoomKDLadage” – this would be nothing more than amusing were it not for the fact that none of my friends can join the room.

Where are my Internets?

Where are my Internets?

One-of-a-kind DYI-style indie board game, simple but challenging.

Contrary to what you may (and I did) think at first, it’s really hard to play with a single character; but it has a special achievement for winning exactly that type of a game. Some of the encounters are purely fictional, and it’s weird in a funny way to see this in a setting based around searching for (and actually installing) a satellite dish-provided Wi-Fi in some rural area.

All in all, funny little adventurous thing, best played in hot-seat mode!

Cute Board Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw8ASYH1YJg

[Disclaimer, I played this Solo, it is probably more fun with friends locally]

  • Visually the game looks pretty adorable with cute drawn artwork that looks more or less like a hand-made board game.
  • Far too RNG based. The entire game is based off pure luck, there is little to no real strategy or decisions for the player to make, every outcome is based on the dice roll.

  • The gameplay is too simple and repetitive. You roll, land on a tile, fight a monster, if you win you get money or an item you can sell. That is about all there is to the entire game… if you land in the city you can pay to put up internet. Once you get enough money from fighting, and get internet in every town you win… I could not find anything fun, really lacks any real challenge.

edit: undo added.

adam the storyteller is a colorful matching game where you get to place all the tiles on the levels. I have to disagree with the ‘intuitive, easy to learn but hard to master’ statement on the store page, as a tutorial and a how to play section had to be added just to cover the basics, but it’s fine now.

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small

Short version: Broken Expansion, Broken Achievements, Dead Multiplayer, Overpriced

The game only seems to work if you disable expansions and use the same very limited amount of buildings over and over, If you try to load a multiplayer game with more buildings enabled it spits out a connection error and from what I could gather this issue doesn’t seem uncommon either. Without the expansions however the game loses a lot of replay value as there’s just barely any variation.

The interface is fiddly at times and the auto-assignment of animals gets irritating very quickly since you have to wait until it’s your turn again before you can fix the bad decisions the AI makes for you.

Real player with 60.6 hrs in game

Agricola is a very good two player game and I like it very much. It is a low priced game that could entertain you for hours and hours in competative game play or just a few minutes per game to beat the AI or your best friend. It´s up to you.

“Agricola: All Creatures Big and small” is a good port from the board game to the digital world. Digidiced did it well to stay close to the original board game from Uwe Rosenberg. The game introduce you in the famers life by build up stables and pastures to gather and breed different animals. All rescourses living and natural have to be chosen wisely step by step as there is an opponent farmer on the other side of the fence that will go for their own good or constrain you in your effort to get your farm up and running. Watch out carefully what he is doing on the other side or follow up our own plan to win the match.

My wife and I really love the board game version of this and its been a great way to play together in a way that our toddler cant mess up our board and also means we can play in bed.

Real player with 56.1 hrs in game

I find this game fun and entertaining. Getting through the campaign was a great challenge. This is a great adaptation from the board game.

It seems as though the issues have been corrected, so I give it a big thumbs up now. Very enjoyable.

My previous comments are still here just in case the issues come back: “The big issue with this is the computer play LOCKS UP when they play a drill card especially or any card that lets them exchange rooms or select roof tiles within/for the house (roofer locked up because there were no roof pieces left). The reason it locks up is because the play they want to make is invalid, like using the drill to exchange a basement room with an empty room OR exchange a room that is considered finished due to decor with the room next to it. Once they select the card, the computer does not seem to be able to go back because it was a mistake, since there are no plays for it to execute what they want. This typically happens, when there are only two cards left to play and very limited moves left in their house.
