Centralia: Homecoming

Centralia: Homecoming

Nice small horror game but it need some rework :

Nice atmosphere.

It remind of silent hill a bit.

Gameplay is OK.

Not too linear.

Game is not too easy (it’s even pretty hard).

Voice acting is not awesome but ambient sound and music is very good and stresfull.

We need to be able to change settings BEFORE you start a new game.

We need to be able to change keyboard settings too.

In inventory, the game should tell you that clicking on the ammo or the lock-picking tools

make them usable, because it look like you are selling it.

Transparency: I was involved in the development of this game, as the english voice actor for the main character.

That said, it’s not a great game, but it’s alright.

  1. It’s a pretty generic story, daughter missing, spooky town, progression through finding keys, etc.

  2. It has some fun moments. My original playthrough was the initial release, so ammo was scarce, and the weapon upgrades were not added yet. The updates made it a lot easier to progress by finding ammo and money in cabinets, and more power lets you rip through enemies.

this game looked promising considering I like horror/puzzle games but after getting stuck for 30 minutes in the very first room trying to find a simple fuse, I refunded it while I still could. Graphics, lighting and sound seemed good, but got angry and had to give up. will probably buy later when someone tells me where that damn 4th fuse is

Update 10th April

Devs have informed me that a price drop is coming they’re waiting for the for steam approval. Also free loco being implemented so this makes it a much more attractive purchase.

An average VR escape the room game with a horror aspect which includes a couple of jump scares. It would be a recommend if priced at $10 Australian but $18.50 is a little high so pick up on sale or in a bundle it will surely turn up in.

A couple of the puzzles are easy but it does have some harder ones and one that you have to guess one of the answers as I was unable to find it. Anyway attached video has a review and then after 3 minutes there are spoilers on all the puzzles if you are stuck. There are time stamps on the youtube comment section so you can go right to the puzzle and not spoil others.

Very small game and very poor mechanics. Some doors only opens when a ghost appears when there is small fake oxygen meter remaining. Not suggesting despite of cheap value because in such value you get good titles during sale.

Very good game although to a man who created his first game. A very interesting game develops the thinking, only short compared to it’s price !. But still a fun and nice game.

A haunted house story which could take place in Detroit, Centralia, Camden or Los Angeles. The content involving Centralia PA is all in the description, and the scares are standard fare with something happening and a loud sound. I wish more was done with the setting instead of just locking the player in a haunted cabin.

This game is as arbitrary as its title. Everything from the jump scares to the trigger points feels haphazardly placed with no cohesive elements, as if the developer just grabbed random horror assets and threw them into the game. The poor design ruins whatever immersion was present here. You move at a glacially slow pace, as if to compensate for how small the game’s environment is. Textures are poor with some so badly cropped that the outline of the .jpeg is still visible. Several bugs such as door animations failing and poor collision detection further mar the experience. There is a jump function in the game that serves no purpose and the ending is as lacking in creativity as everything else. There was a nice opportunity to create a claustrophobic experience with a minimalist setting but its ruined by bugs, incoherent events and a very short playtime that clocks in at around 15 minutes.

Really interesting game with captivating story.

Even though combat is a little simple, fighting giant Vikings did not get old. Puzzles were decent.

Where the game really shines is the story and superb acting of the main character.

Even the sidelore spread out through the game was a joy listening to.

Game feels rather short (10-ish hours) but that’s just me wanting more.

Worth it, even at full price (20Eur). Now it is 75% off and that is a really good deal.

Tomato Way 2

Tomato Way 2

In this alternate reality, you will take control of Sgt. Malo; aka Padre(our protagonist) and fight through hoards of veggies gone bad and many other nightmare monsters. The Ogres almost decimated the mammal population when they have wiped out the mammals; are veggies next to be eliminated? Padre will Slide, Shoot, Kick and use augmentations to slice and dice like a mince-o-matic salad slicer, through mob after mob, along with unreal boss battles. Leave your enemies in a mass of gibs, and collect any silver dropped to power your augmentations and to hire allies to help you fight.

Remember years ago back when Adult Swim wasn’t complete garbage? Had Tomato Way been an animation instead of a video game, it would have fit right in with that rest of the old roster. It is trashy surrealism at it’s finest.

Unfortunately, as far as gameplay goes, there is a certain level of broken jankyness you can get away with in an FPS that just does not fly in a 3rd person hack and slash. Controls and combat are just too broken for me to recommend this game in good faith. I am still going to finish it, because I have become completely absorbed in the fucknuts bizarre world the developer has created. Anyone that can get me invested in the deep lore of goddamn slavic ronin vegetables clearly has talent, but this sequel is just to rusty too give a thumbs up to.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

“Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?”

~The unknown individual

To be honest, I didn’t really plan to write this review. I mean… what is there to say? It’s the second game in Supermassive’s horror anthology (a series of short spooky stories told in “choose your own adventure” way with some QTE elements) and I already wrote detailed review of Man of Medan (which was the first one), so, like I said, what else is there to say? Surprisingly, it turned out that, even though the core mechanics here is almost identical to what we’ve seen in Man of Medan, the actual storytelling, the structure of the game is pretty different and it does make it to feel… well… different. So… here goes.

Real player with 52.1 hrs in game

“Little Hope” is one of the few cinematic, story driven games that are better played with a friend than alone and this is why I bought it. Unfortunately Supermassive Games let us down once more. We tried it a dozen of times, but just like their previous title the online coop is full of glitches, infinite loading screens and corrupted save files that didn’t let us finish the game. One year later they don’t even bother solving the problems and patching the game. Two years later they haven’t patched “Man of Medan” either. The single player is decent but nothing special. Cool story and atmosphere but definitely a step backward compared to “Man of Medan” as of the gameplay, decisions making and sceneries design. You can try couch coop though.

This is one of the few games made by this developer that i actually kinda like. Yes, It is short but it’s interesting, So for me that makes up for its short Gameplay. The 2nd ending also makes that up cause i can play it a 2nd time with something different, However, While the game runs fine on my laptop at ultra graphics, It needs just tiny bit more optimization, You will know this when you encounter the possessed ford escort (The rally car that attempts to kill you). When the car smashes into the train car’s doorway, The performance of the game will slightly decrease for 1 second after the car hits the doorway. Once this game is updated to be optimized a bit more i will change my review from a not recommended to a recommended.

Real player with 3.1 hrs in game

Interesting concept, but this game is too short and pricey for this quality.

I wish the train would have expanded into wilder designs, however the vehicle attack was cool. One of the other bad features of this game is saving! You have to find cigarettes and give them to a ghost all the way near the beginning of the game.

I want to recommend this game but I can’t due to it’s length and a few other average features.

Nice attempt though.
