The Hong Kong Massacre
I rarely leave reviews unless its something i hate and want to rake over the coals.. but i have to leave one here to give these people props.
I’ve been following this game since i stumbled over it on Facebook for many many years ago when all there was were just gifs of tech demos. I loved the style and the potential that was shown and i was hooked at the idea.
It is inevitable that reviews will bring up Hotline Miami but that is not a negative. The games look similar but they operate in a different way. There is no score here, take that as a positive or negative but the only thing that influence your score at the end is the challenges and if you completed them or not as well as a your time being logged.

“The Hong Kong massacre” is the indie tribute to the 80’s-90’s John Woo movies like “Hard-Boiled” or “Bullet in the Head”, made in the form of a top-down shooter.
To those who are TLTR in their heads: It’s a cheap-made indie game. Not bad visually, but very limited by the chosen topic and production costs. Buy it if you really love top-down shooters and 80’s Hong Kong-style action movies. In all other cases, there are good chances that you’ll turn it down after only a little while.

“Trepang2 has some of the most satisfying shooting controls I’ve seen in recent memory. It’s like someone took all the best parts of FEAR and made it somehow even more violent and visceral."

Mr. Fast
This is art. The kind of art where bullets fly all around and blood spatters paint the concrete floor. Awesome soundtrack too, Already hoping for a sequel, This is a true hidden gem. 10/10

This game is poorly optimized. The aiming system is jank. The sound clips in and out. The soundtrack is ok at best. Some levels have a habit of spawning enemies on top of you. The physics are a joke. The levels are varied and have some nuance to them but are largely just shoot the dudes until the round ends. Despite all this, Mr. Fast is still an enjoyable experience if your expectations are low going in. I have no idea where I am or where I’m going, all I know is I must kill. Slowpokes need not apply.

Hatchpunk
I recommend this game for people who like classic fast-paced shooters like old Doom or Duke Nukem, or even Serious Sam. It’s rough and very annoying at times, but it’s made by a solo developer so I can give some slack on that. It’s fun and gets your heart racing, I’ll definitely be playing this game whenever i want some quick exciting gameplay, I hope for a lot more updates in the future, this game has potential to be a ton better.

Super interesting and highly annoying game, damage is extremely high on what seems to be the second to third level, the mechanics are really good and the game looks really nice, reminds me of an odd Doom or Duke Nuke Em', really enjoyable.

2D TOP DOWN SUPER HOT

I’m not charmed by this game, nor am I compelled by the lackluster gameplay.
I’m not sure if this is the case, but it FEELS like it was dashed together without a lot of care being put into crafting mechanically-rich gameplay. You just sit there in “time slowdown” mode, then pick off the enemies as they face-rush you. After you beat 99% of a map, you have to traverse the entire thing again to find the one or two foes that are hiding behind trees that you can’t see.
It is neither challenging nor fun. I grew bored within the first 10 minutes but decided to put another 1/2 hour of play in, just to make sure I wasn’t being unfair before I wrote my review. Beat the 1st boss, made it to the 2nd area and it’s just more of the same.

Blood Metal
I wanna love this game, because the potential is limitless.
But unfortunately it’s just not there yet. It hasn’t even slightly reached that point and I am 100% confident that they know this. Drakeling Labs is truly testing the patience of all of those who wish so desperately to hang onto hope.
The acquisition of this game is not only questionable at best, but damn near a hostile takeover. Yes, you were within your legal rights, yes, the developer did some things wrong as well, but this isn’t how you treat a fucking passion project. This just ain’t it chief.

This game had a ton of potential. Its in a pretty rough stage at this point, there isnt even control settings. After bodies pile up a little bit it seems to drag, but other then that the gore models are awesome. Would like to see some improved blood textures as the 2D puddles often render above the ground and looks bad. I would recommend this game if you are a gore hound and want to support a small team.
EDIT 1 The new update solves the 2D blood puddle problem and looks much better, however there is no blood splatter textures that show up on walls. Also, bodies disappear quickly before they can be mulched up. Enjoying the progress so far!

My Friend Pedro
A BANANA that talks you into killing people the “John Wick” style
Story
🔸A full-fledged story is obviously not a focus in shoot ‘em up games. However, there is a simple one here. An unnamed silent man wakes up inside a butcher shop, instructed by a floating banana that appears out of thin air to kill the owner since he’s an arms dealer. The next second your character is a man with a bounty on his head and now he can’t stop ‘til he gets to the bottom of it. I can’t get further into the story since the plot is tied to the ending in a way that any attempt to explain more might spoil that little piece of the story it tells.

Maximum Action
I’ve been playing this game for a couple years now and despite little there may be in terms of content i cant help but come back time and time again. Despite the game being incomplete this is some of the most fun gameplay/gunplay i’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing, that really have been showcased in the newer or updated levels. The way this game has grown over time has been such a pleasure to experience. Even when i first started playing it was easy to have a blast but as more content is added it just gets better and better. My absolute favorite improvement has the levels. The newer updated levels feel so fleshed out and despite being linear (which i think assists the gameplay) has such fun flow and pacing. There may be only a few right now that really entertain but im more than looking forward to more,

Originally, I refunded.
Let me start over. Originally I loved the videos on the Maximum Action Steam profile page. Loved the looks! Violent. Bloody. GORY. Guns. Bullet time. What’s not to love? Well, the controls, the graphics, and the movement. Those don’t seem so great… So I refunded this game.
Then time set in. You know the saying, “You don’t know what you got until it’s gone.”
I recalled the short time I gave Max Action a chance and did miss it. But I tried to move on with my life. Less than a week later, I was jonsing for another shot, but definitely not Max Action. So I played Max Payne 3. Not good enough. Fired up Max Payne 1. Closer.
