Drunken Fist šŸŗšŸ‘Š Totally Accurate Beat ‘em up

Drunken Fist šŸŗšŸ‘Š Totally Accurate Beat ‘em up

I mainly recommend this game because it’s very cheap and it’s a very unique fun concept with the physics based fighting. More games should use proper physics. There is a sufficient amount of different moves to make it rather interesting. (although I’d add a few more)

However I think it’s far from desirable. It feels unpolished / unfinished with many features, such as key rebinding and level select are missing on release.

I also don’t like the “drunken” part. Sure, it’s advertised in the title, but in practice it means that the game is hard to control and clunky. While some could consider the result funny, I can only think of it as frustrating, as things often don’t work as I expect.

Tl;dr: Drunken Fist is a silly game that needs a lot of work. It feels like an Early Access title, but it’s being sold as a finished product.

The Good

  • Silly and good for a laugh* Charming art style

The Bad

  • Priced a bit higher than it should be for the quality/amount of content ($2 - $3 seems more reasonable)* Controls aren’t always responsive* Lacks something as basic as the ability to exit the game from the main menu* Player character can get stuck inside the scenery

As a playtester for this game’s Steam release I can say with confidence that this is a really solid game with amazing gameplay. And not only that, it has a lovely indie team behind it too! Definetly pick this game up if.

The gameplay feels very smooth when hacking your way through levels, being able to pick up virtually anything around you as a weapon in your fight as Mr. Wolf. Even when dying a lot at points, which can happen quite frequently with the well-executed 1 hit death system, I never felt like giving up or taking a pause. For those who don’t like dying much: there is an option in the settings to make yourself invincible so you can really go all-out slashing.

Hotline Miami on speed. This is a great top down action game, it’s fast paced, very fun, a lot of creativity and a very strong level design. The OST has some really nice bangers as well.

There is A LOT of weapons everywhere and your goal is to power through levels by any means necessary. Use a pistol, a scythe, a snowball, a fish, an explosive barrel, a mini gun and others more or less crazy alternatives. It’s all about speed, making combo and using different weapons to try to get the highest score possible. You can unlock hats that have various effect by defeating bosses or reaching a certain highscore. The hats have a real Hotline Miami vibe of course, you can tell the devs are fan of that game, you feel their passion throughout the game.

Welcome to the Garden of Madness, Sudabrosā€¦

tldr; the game is great, but the port is not

ā€“——————

The non-technical part of this port is still good, even after 14 years, the game has it’s charm. The heart and soul of the game is still here (except “Heavenly Star” is absent, but you can mod it back in), but the technical side of this port - OH THE TECHNICAL SIDE..

As you could see, most of the reviews here talk about the lack of controller support (KB+M is not an option;

! and why would you even want to play it on KB+M? ) - the game only supports XBOX360 controller, BUT DS4Windows works just fine for me.

Yes. But not yet.

the game works really well, but there’s some bugs that need fixing.

Here’s some stuff nobody else is saying:

  • A bunch of achievements are broken, specifically those that have progression tracking. The counting doesn’t work properly. Those who have the achievement “Dial M for Massacre” are using SAMā€¦ for shame guys.

  • There’s some particular segments in the game where you need to hit a target at the right time but the timing is extremely finicky if not completely broken. Luckily they are all optional, but some are tied to a certain achievement. It’s not impossible per se, but I sure avoided them like the plague.

Rude Racers: 2D Combat Racing

Rude Racers: 2D Combat Racing

This is easily the best 2d combat racing game out there and I’m not even exaggerating! It reminds me of the old games I used to play on arcade, the art style is cartoony, characters are funny and music is mind blowing. The progression is quite linear and the later levels kept me engaged for hours where I had to dodge incoming attacks and time a counter blow while riding at high speeds and evade the contraptions all at the same time! With so much variety in events and depth of content in terms of weapons, riders and atvs this game is dirt cheap as compared to other games on Steam.

Rude Racers is a cheap game but very optimized and hides a very challenge gameplay.

What is Rude Racers?

It is a scrolling game, where you need to beat your quad/endure bike enemies with your speed or with the brute force before the time finishes or the finish lap.

We have two modalities: Career and quick mode.

In quick mode, you can choose the type of race you will do, while the divided into seasons (5 in total) while the career doesnā€™t need an explanation.

I cant stop. Playing. Making maps. Playing those maps. Changing something about said map. Playing again. There isnt much here currently, but for 6.99 cad you cant go wrong. Tons of maps most of them usermade on the workshop but there are some really well done maps and ideas on there that will keep the wave based gameplay from getting stale. Hopefully one day we get guns. So i can spam all of the maps ive made with them and make a melony mess.

ā€“ Real player with 69.0 hrs in game

You’d be surprised but for a zombie type game this is fairly original.

Let me explain.

Weapon Originality

Most zombie games would throw guns at you, and to get weapons you have to pay for them.

In this game you have melee weapons and to find them you need to search around the map, or find them from random generation.

BUGS

Bugs are noticeable but not outright making the game unplayable. These bugs I often notice playing with friends and can be annoying, but Early Access game is gonna Early Access game.

Runic Rampage - Action RPG

Runic Rampage - Action RPG

As I always start my reviews, play the game in English and don’t watch the translations. The Italian one is awful like every other one, so let’s stick with English.

This one is an action RPG with good graphics - I love them, 3D and with a view from above which allows you to see enemies and everything that surrounds you, since the fights are those of a hack ‘n’ slash and you don’t have a party, but a single dwarf XD.

Price is quite high (7ā‚¬) so, get it on sale if you manage to!

The gameplay is really great and 100% joypad supported, so you have lots of combos, lots of equipment upgrades and most of all you’ll never have to deal with many sidequests or paths.. it’s a straightforward game with levels and bosses of increasing difficulty (never too hard, actually) and for a game like this to me it’s really good!

ā€“ Real player with 43.1 hrs in game

I’ve put in only an hour and a half into the game, so take this review as an estimate of what you’ll feel like after that amount of time:

PREMISE:

There isn’t a ton of storyline to this, but there’s some. You’re a dwarf fighting to find your lost brothers and (I assume) become the hero your father wanted you to be. You have to conquer four Acts, each broken up into three chapters, each of which has three maps - except for the last, which contains a boss fight. You collect gold, which seems to accrue across death (ie. no gold loss upon getting squished). You also pickup single-use powerups as well as temporary bonuses from single use statues. Finally, you also get skill points, with which to level attributes (str, agility, defense and greed)

Paint the Town Red

Paint the Town Red

Paint the Town Red is a medium-paced bar fighting game with a large variety of weapons and enemies now and here to come. It still needs a bit of optimization, but the devs assure us that the game will be optimized as the game progresses (And updates.)

The enemies are completely destructible. You could dissolve someone if you have enough time and the weapon doesn’t break. All the voxels on the enemies have different properties, with bone being the strongest natural voxel and skin being the weakest. (You will be able to damage Riot Helmets later on, but those aren’t natural.) Additional fact, is that if a enemy’s brain is damaged in anyway, they will instantly die, if they don’t, its a bug.

Punch the square people. Do it. Punch them.

A great sandbox fighter game with a lot of options to play and replay various scenarios and workshop access, allowing for a near infinite supply of content.

The game also has a rogue-like dungeon crawler on top of all the sandbox fun that initially existed, adding what is the value of basically a second game of a different genre, with similar mechanics, on top, for absolutely free (That’s what I feel about it, as I bought the game in early access, wayyy before Beneath was even on the table). Beneath is a great dungeon crawler, with many different levels, mechanics and upgrades to take you through the different bosses of the game, most of them with their very own environment and even full levels with new enemies, just to build up to another boss fight.

BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites

Pros:

-Fluid and fast-paced hack & slash 2D action

-Game supports up to 120fps

-It works fine on both keyboard and Xbox gamepad controller

-Laura Bailey and Troy Baker are back to play as Rayne and Kagan

-Game can now render sprites at true 4k resolution (3840 x 2160)

-Decent blood & gore physics

-You can now select difficulty between Classic and Standard when starting new game

-Combo attacks and Dash mechanic feels smooth, snappy, and responsive

-2D artstyle was perfect; I love the atmosphere, filled with enriched music

ā€“ Real player with 714.3 hrs in game

A lot like the good old Castlevania games with difficult platforming and all. If you get good with the shmoovement you can pretty much fly across levels and the combat is a lot of fun.

My main complaint is how slowly Rayne turns around. I can’t tell you how many times I try to turn around and shoot only for the turning animation to be canceled and shoot off screen. PLEASE devs reduce time to turn around by half and combat would feel great. Also adding the Japanese main menu art as an option would really put a chef’s kiss on the entire package.

Alien Shooter

Alien Shooter

If you want to see my video review about the game, here it is: https://youtu.be/ABwncnGRCfg

Alien Shooter is an isometric indie shooter game, where you have to shoot aliens and stop the invasion from a millitary complex.

One of the most enjoyable thing in the game, is the music. There are not too many tracks, but which they got is awesome. The sounds are not bad, but sadly there are not too many from them, so it can be annoying to listen to the same sounds.

What I definetly should mention about the game, is the gameplay. So, this is an isometric shooter, with different weapons, character upgrades and bonus equipments. These are fine, and also surprising to see, you can upgrade your character. What is even better, there are 2 of them, which have different advantages and disadvantages. Need to mention the difficulty settings, you can play the game on Easy, Medium or Hard. The game has one main mission in general, which contains 10 levels, however the two DLCs has 5-5 levels, one of the DLC adds 3 new monsters and one new music, too. The different monsters have different abilites and also, they can do more damages too. You think, this is not too much, which is right, but this was the first game for an indie developer team, so this is not a bad progress they get. The game itself is troublesome sometimes, because it can be boring after a short amount of time, also the game in general is not easy. I played through the game on Hard, and it was one of the hardest games I played. Also, the game really likes to make fun of the player, and usually it spawns enemies from nothing or behind it. You need to fight insane amount of enemies too, which can make crazy situations. What is even worse, the alien AI is like a moth, which attracted to a lamp and if you are behind a wall, the aliens are just hug that wall and roar at you. Because of these, I would say, this game is not a great to play, however I need to mention the challange factor. Even tho the game can do dirty, it is a challanging game, which if you playthrough, it will be satisfingā€¦ until you not see the ending, which is an outro and a High Score screen. One more thing is giving some plus to the gameplay, and this is the secrets. These can give you resources or early weapons, which can help you out too, Also, the weapons are cool, different and they have their own role.

Charming little indie game from a small developer. I remember playing a disc copy of this game a good 13 or so years ago, picked it up on Steam for the nostalgia. The game is very simple without too much complexity in any realm, but has enough variety and action to deliver on what it promises.

The campaign has ten levels (essentially nine - the first one just involves entering the facility and learning game mechanics, no enemies). For an experienced player, it will take probably around 90-100 minutes. For anybody new to the franchise or unfamiliar with this kind of game, it will probably last a couple hours. The difficulty curve is very fair, and makes it much more satisfying when you reach that point of slaying giant hordes of aliens. The survival mode has more replayability, but in my opinion is too dependent on luck. A couple of the weapons are guaranteed drops from bosses that come at regular intervals, but about half of the weapons can only drop as random loot from killing enemies. Ammo, implants, armor, and gear all drop randomly as well. This is fine for the early part of the survival, but once you get to the armored enemies you won’t last long without speed implants or armor.
