InFlux Redux

InFlux Redux

InFlux Redux is a high-definition remaster of the 2013 puzzler InFlux , built on a brand new engine with improved graphics and physics, and completely rewritten game code.

InFlux is a puzzle game that mixes exploration and platforming in a series of beautiful natural and abstract environments. You are a mysterious metal sphere which falls from the sky, traversing an apparently deserted island dotted with cubic structures of glass and steel. Each glasshouse is a puzzle to be solved. Redux is prettier, more polished, and more performant than the original!

  • Roll your way through a series of beautiful and varied naturalistic environments

  • Discover and solve a sequence of mind-bending cubic puzzle structures

  • Forge an alliance with a majestic and enigmatic humpback whale

  • Enjoy an extensive original soundtrack by composer Jonathan Yandel

  • Experience the game that Andy Sum, creator of Crossy Road, described as “So beautiful I cried. Twice” when prompted to say something flattering about it

The Dig®

The Dig®

I grew up with point and click adventures, which gives you an idea where I am coming from. I have played The Dig in 2016 for the first time, so nobody should assume that I am blinded by nostalgia. Okay, here is what I think: The Dig is one of the best adventures that I have ever played. I loved it to pieces! My favourite titles are: Day of the Tentacle, Loom and Grim Fandango. I think The Dig is up there.

I do NOT like Sam and Max and Monkey Island, because they have too much moon logic for my taste.

A fun, beautiful, different and must-have point and click adventure game for every retro gamer. This is the kind of game that I think would do really well as a remake. Not everyone has heard of it. It’s setting is very alien, and it has Spielberg’s name attached to it. How could this NOT be a successful remake?! On to the review! …..

ATMOSPHERE:

One thing that Dig focuses on, which a lot of P&C adventures didn’t at the time, is atmosphere. You feel like your’e in a very confusing and mystifying alien world. There are some tablets, writings, art and such that you find that are not explained completely, adding mystery to the world. Also, that sense of being alone is very felt, despite the fact that you have a couple of teammates that you occassionally run into. The music fits nicely and there’s even a sense of danger with each new area. Admittedly, towards the end of the game there is quite a bit of back tracking and story which pulls you out of this.

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition

realMyst is a very simple yet sometimes complex puzzle game that was made back when home computers were just starting to find their way into households. In other words, don’t expect there to be a huge amount amount of gameplay here. If you buckle down, you can beat this game in one sitting. That’s not to say that there’s no challenge to it as there certainly can be at times.

For the most part, you’re playing to find out about the unfolding story. This game used to be a point and click adventure. It seems to have upgraded to being a free roam First-Person which can ultimately betray any new comers to the game leading you to believe there’s more to the puzzle than what there really is. You can now roam in unchecked corners and behind bookshelves which you could never do in the first place so if you’re stumped on a puzzle, it’s best not to start checking every nook and cranny. To be safe, they’ve added a feature so that you can use the point and click system which at times can be pretty difficult to use since there’s multiple things to click on so you have to be pretty precise about what you want to inspect.

“I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written.” - Atrus

And thank the great Guildmasters of The Art because this series went on to produce many other excellent games, Riven being the height of exceptionalism.

In a time before the internet I played this game and I remember being so frustrated at points. Rather than Google, we had friends who would hang out together and connect their brain processing power to try and find solutions to the puzzles. There really was nothing like this in the history of computers. This hypercard, photoreal, puzzle game with live action cutscenes and fully immersive worlds. It was jawdropping back then. If you are new to the game it may lack the punch it had from 30 years ago but it is still an incredible game today and while I understand the graphics weren’t up to a lot of people’s expectations in this remastered edition, I found the game to be very much at home as a first person free roamer on the Unity Engine. If you are a puzzle lover you will soon understand why the game is referenced so much and you will see how modern puzzle games have adapted the levels, environments, puzzles etc for use today in games like The Witness, Quern, The Room and ASA.

Holiday Bonus GOLD

Holiday Bonus GOLD

Around 22 hours of no-frills uber-casual Match 3 gaming. You basically clear the board as fast as you can, and it’s very unlikely you will get stuck with no available moves - it only happened to me once. I kind of wish that matches over 3 gave you obvious benefits, because the special tile drops seemed pretty random, and it would have provided incentive to make larger matches. Despite the simple, low pressure game-play, getting into the matching groove was good, and the holiday theme and seasonal music were enjoyable. Extremely wholesome. This is the perfect timekiller for coffee breaks at work, or something to play with your family in the room when you can’t afford to devote intense concentration to gameplay. Looking forward to trying the others in the series.

In this winter game we swap all sorts of Holiday items to play a relaxing Match-3 game. While you play, the music and sound effects will accompany you quiet nicely to ensure that you have a pleasant game play. There are also beautiful backgrounds you can stare at and enjoy.

Overall, there are 55 Regular and 55 Golden Levels, so you can complete the Christmas Tree. You also unlock background gallery as well!

So this game is based on luck. As in you don’t make Match-4+ or Match-5+ for power ups. They just randomly come up. There are also mysterious “?” bags with a random power up upon a mouse click.

The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City

This game is pretty good and I love it, tho it does have some problems but I do recommend anyone play it.

A very interesting an engaging story, a gameplay loop that’s pretty fun, and a lot of fantastic quality of life.

Pros:

-Fine Gameplay

-IMO brings the strengths of Skyrim of movements and conversation trees

-A Good story and mystery

-fantastic graphics

Cons:

-Combat is a bit janky

-Sometimes the animations and interactions bug out

Overall: This feels like another one of my favorite games Paradise Killer in that its a interesting mystery that engages you with story and compelling characters. I am excited to see more from this dev in the future.

Honestly a really good way of using a loop mechanic, it’s a bit of a gimmick at this point and usually not the most fun to have all progress made depending on resetting all progres. But with Galerius it’s not as tedious.

So the game story wise is pretty fun with some very interesting story lines. It first and foremost being a skyrim mod comes through here as it has a greater focus on many small stories to build the world around you. This ties together nicely to give the main story and the “canon ending” great build up and makes it feel organic.
