GRIS

A great game if you like simple platformers without complicated puzzles.

A terrible game if you like good puzzles where stuff happens. The puzzles are very simple, you often have to just press a button and wait for your character to walk somewhere, and the beautiful artstyle gets really boring once you realize how often everything repeats itself.

A lone female character facing off against enemies that represent mental illnesses while usually in a dim, black and white/grey, or colourless world isn’t anything new. Far from it.

There are plenty out there (Little Nightmares, Shady Part of Me, Celeste, Child of Light, Hellblade, Amnesia Rebirth, Ib, Limbo (but a boy), and more)

So with that in mind I wondered what Gris (apparently pronounced “gree”) could add to the already overcrowded, overdone trope/setting.

It was fun while it lasted. Great art and animation. Nice soundtrack. You can’t die so you go at your own pace. It was a nice day playing it (about 6 hours to 100%)

Journey

this game, is absolutely incredible. i cannot explain it. on my first journey my friend showed me where all of the cape things were, all of the pictures on the walls, everything. they saved me from the dragons in more ways than one, even after i flew right into the back of one of them, my friend came back and showed me a safer way to get through. they showed me how to speedrun the 4th or 5th level by spamming bing bongs and flying up, this is the only game ive ever felt compelled to write a review for. i thought we messed up when we froze, heartbreaking stuff. 10/10 will bing-bong with a stranger on the internet again

I met small fren, then I met many small fren, then met some bigger fren, then some not fren. In the end though i met A true friend in struggle. We helped each other. This game made me feel more bonded to anyone then any other game I have ever played. 10/10, 100/100. I cried myself to sleep. I got into this thinking, “Probably just an over-hyped game.” When I first started walking I noticed that the sound quality on the walking wasn’t good. Not of that mattered in the end, because art isn’t perfect, but for goodness sake’s if this game dose not come close to it.

Wandering Through The Vines

I got the chance to beta test this game and help improve it, these are my thoughts.

First of all I want to say the art style for this game is really unique and pleasing to look at while your jumping your way across the levels.

On that note the character designs are really interesting and I have no idea how they were thought up lol.

The difficulty is quite enjoyable after you get used to the controls.

It’s also quite enjoyable after you beat a level ( feels like beating a hard Dark Souls boss ).

It is really difficult but enjoyable would be great as a game played with friends (taking turns it is only single player) or as a stream

The graphics are cool

I love the jumping mechanic it is very fun to have a touch sensitive jump so i can very its height. The controls are solid

I hope the dev keeps up the hard work. they have a cool vision that i really can’t wait to see come to fruition. I wish you the best of luck this game already has more potential than a lot of AAA games.

This game is really cute, there isn’t much to do in it though, only some matching puzzles and growing flowers. I forgot this was on, it took around 20mn to finish it all.

it’s a very interesting look into various elements of art and color. the puzzles and music make it fun and rewarding to learn.

‘What is art’ is a famously difficult question to answer, primarily because everyone’s opinions are different, and not everybody will be completely satisfied. Something artists love to point out whenever you say you do or don’t like a painting, as if your opinion doesn’t matter because someone else, somewhere, might disagree with you.

These two concepts were very clear from the start as, when we played through this game, as a group, with one of us enjoying it greatly, from the outset, and the other being too uncultured, to really grasp the game’s deep message. As we continued, though, I proceeded to be amazed by the creative problem solving and beautiful artistic direction.

Very challenging, but fun! Minimal in its conception with use of color to contribute interest. Unique use of cubes in ways to motivate one to seek the solution, but forgiving in its offerings of undo the previous move or restart the puzzle. Refreshingly creative!!

Beyondthosehills, one indie games development studio which comes from Greece, it have two works-Reky and The Minims(This review only according to Reky). As a puzzle game, it accomplished the mission which the ability of solving conundrums from players is leveling up with the difficulty of it.

The diversity of gameplay make more possibility

From the most simplest way that only need to move one cube on the specified site to create a path through the shift and the cooperation of two types of colors, then the changing of cubes which have many colors, the difficulty of it is increasing slowly, from one to ten. No obvious up and down display on the difficulty, the whole difficulty carve is a little uneven, but the tendency is steady. The design of levels includes many ways, such as going to the end with rising and downing cubes or crossing many black portals to escape. Not only can get fun with exploring the right path by myself step by step, but also can experience the double difficulty from the adjustment of colors and blocks under by the same frame.

The Place I Called Home

The Place I Called Home

I’m going to give this a “thumbs up” based on the story. Often painful to hear and without a cookie cutter happy ending, it is excellent.

My reservations are with some of the game design decisions and mechanics.

–I don’t understand why the hunger meter even exists. This is a game about a melancholy walk through difficult memories, how does the threat of starvation more effectively tell that story?

–Using the left mouse for the axe and “X” for interact is as intuitive as wiping your butt with your off hand. It can be done, it just feels wrong. You only swing the axe nine times. I would much rather click the mouse repeatedly to pick things up and use a random letter key for the axe.

i got this game for free to do a curator review on it and im going to be truthful. i came up with more major stuff when playing then the story plays out. its your basic pretty walk sim were you learn a small history on the girl your playing as. the story’s your basic tug your heart strings story that you can put into 21 notes and 8 small talking parts. sad that this stuff happens for people but i couldn’t give any care on this girl as was more expecting “o maybe this well happen or this!?” then “o nother note… and nother…. mk… 15 found… 20… and ok meh” at most its a time killer for something you could guess well happen at worst its 5$ tossed into a bin.

When The Past Was Around - Prologue

When The Past Was Around - Prologue

The prologue to When The Past Was Around demonstrates the premise (a point-and-click adventure journey through escape-room memories) and the distinctive art style (emotional yet precisely ruled, with a bit of a design catalog feel). The spaces are spare, the stools and characters are both spindly-legged and stylish, and the furnishings and accents are old worn woods that give everything a tone of sepia-tinged nostalgia.

When the Past Was Around seems to sit almost precisely between works like Florence, which perform memories through interaction, works like Gris, whose environments are metaphors for having big feelings, and works from the Rusty Lake series, whose similar animal-headed characters and antique-shop decor stylings present clickable escape rooms as entrees into horror, not tender nostalgia.

When the Past was Around - Free Prologue

When the Past was Around claims to be about love, loss and moving on and follows 20-year-old Edda and her mysterious companion through a series of disjointed and puzzle-filled rooms seemingly made from memories.

Overall, the game was a short but charming little experience. It took a mere 15 minutes to complete but this was enough to make me curious and enthusiastic about the game’s full release and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys slightly abstract, point-and-click puzzle games.
