Die for Valhalla!

Die for Valhalla!

Die for Valhalla! is an amazing combination of rogue-lite and side-scrolling beat-em-up style game that has amazing graphics and catchy music. This game is absolutely huge with so much continuous slaughtering fun!

There are two different playing modes, the first is essentially an arcade mode with a larger world where there are a ton of procedurally generated side-scrolling beat-em-up levels. Your goal is hack, smash, and slash your way to the end of the levels and defeat all of the enemies along the way. The other mode is essentially a rogue-lite, more difficult, with permadeath. Your choices matter a bit more because everything could mean life and death. (Kind of funny given the premise of the game.)

What a gem! $9-12 of hack n slash fun!

Fans of “Rampage knights” and “Castle Crashers” this is a great game for you .

Die for Valhalla follows the same pace, environments and formula as castle crashers with quite a bit more attention to skill point allocation and character development.

This game, while a fun multi-player, still shines with an entertaining singleplayer mode. This is often not the case for hack n slash beat em up games. You start by picking a spirit who represents a season. As that spirit, you can possess objects or revivable vikings to fight and dominate the battlefield in silly ways. Each viking represents a class or style of fighting with special moves. Pets can be found on some maps by defending a point (warning the shrines health will be your pets health, and yes pets can die). Hopefully pets can be permantly unlocked, as they feel somewhat useless at the moment acting as dumb damage sponges. If you leave a map to the overworld view, you have the option to unlock clan houses that contain various types of vikings and bonus perks.

Kawaii Deathu Desu

Kawaii Deathu Desu

Kawaii Deathu Desu is basically the sum of its parts. It is about as straight foward as a game can get. If there is an enemy to the left, attack left. If there is an enemy to the right, attack right. It really is as simple as that. There has been a lot of comparisons to One Finger Death Punch and I can understand where people are coming from but there is one crucial difference: One Finger Death Punch (OFDP) insists that you don’t button mash. You won’t directly lose if you do, but you will be made vulnerable, and will likely die as a result. It will also damage your score at the end of the level. Kawaii Death Desu does not have such scruples. For this game you will have to break out the old crack hands and go to town as you mash left and right slaughtering thousands before you.

I was expecting something that required a bit of reaction and thinking, like One Finger Death Punch, but instead I found this game to be nothing but mashing. You can beat anything by just killing your fingers.

Then I figured “if it’s so mindless, I might as well put up a macro recording to play the game for me.” So I did. That was a lot more interesting. I actually got quite a kick out of figuring out some kinks that a macro recorder has.

So after one day and one night just letting this fancy screensaver play itself, I got every character unlocked and maxed, and I have zero interest in doing anything with them because the game has no challenge in it. If you have working fingers, you’ll beat it. This isn’t the same as simple being fun, One Finger Death Punch was simple and that was a lot of fun because it bothered to require at least some kind of brain chemistry and had variation. A small child might see the amusement in this thing on a cellphone, that’s who I’d recommend it to.

Kitsune Killer

Attempting to play the game here:

https://youtu.be/aOJkZ2rgKIw

First off there’s a major glitch always at 6 hearts if an enemy suicides they stop spawning I also unfortunately found out on stage 4 at 34 hearts and 39 hearts it glitches as well. I gave this game my best attempt, but stage 4 they are so suicidal it’s annoying and no longer worth the effort. Dialogue at the start is WAY too fast as well. This is just personal preference, but I really wish you had to platform to the enemies instead of being able to dash through platforms with your slash. I like the concept of the game and when it works it’s pretty dang cool I like it enough I’m not going to refund it even though it’s broken, but as it is right now absolutely cannot recommend game is broken.

Pixel Art - Mash-Up

A pretty fun small indie action game. The mixing of different art from multiple artists is unique and I like it. Looking forward to see more content added to the game throughout early access!

Hanako: Honor & Blade

Hanako: Honor & Blade

I’m going to comment solely on the feel of combat since IMO that’s the most ‘make or break’ factor in a PvP game. As of writing this review the game offers 4 classes, 3 melee and 1 ranged.

The ranged character uses a bow and its pretty typical of what you would expect from such a class. Mechanics like projectile drop and needing to lead on a moving target respect the physics of shooting an arrow but they’re not overly difficult as to become aggravating. You can play back and aim your shots or you can get close and spam arrows, its a good mix of skill & spray-n-pray.

First off, the Devs have worked really hard to get this game to where it is now and it shows. When I had my first few games I had expected broken mechanics or obvious inbalance of the classes. However I was pleasantly surprised that they have a very strong foundation in place.

All 3 classes play differently with their own unique style to learn and bring out the fantasy that they are known for. Easy to pick up and learn but also some depth for those who want to truly master their classes mechanics.

Metamorphos

Metamorphos

It’s a nice short Souls-like game that can be finished for around an hour and a half.

Graphics are great, but somehow not too optimized even if I set the quality at its lowest. Some animations feels stiff, but this is just nit-picking on my part.

Controls felt really clunky. I don’t know if it’s just me, or the game feels unresponsive. There are times that my character just stands still no matter how much I move my analog stick. The camera moves fine, but I can’t attack nor evade. Its really annoying since this always happens when I’m battling enemies.

Was really enjoying the game, and then the game ate my save and 3 hour progress. Don’t recommend.

Very satisfying combat. Although I would recommend Reshade for the graphics as some ambient occlusion and contrast go a long way for this game’s visuals. Also, this game is a bit short on content, definitely worth it if it’s on sale however.

Bully Beatdown

Bully Beatdown

Full disclosure - I helped with play testing, bug testing, made some suggestions, etc. on a beta key given by the developer.

It’s been a while since I’ve played a beat ‘em up game.

This game’s art style and smooth play (even on as old of a machine as mine) was very appealing.

Starting on Easy difficulty seemed like a good step - normal is a bit tough without having some skills leveled up.

The game starts with a very short tutorial that also acts as a way to map your keys / buttons.

As soon as you get accustomed to how the game plays, the strategy for each enemy type, level up skills, etc. you’ll find yourself completing the same difficulty faster if you ever need to restart for any reason.

You are sitting in the school cafeteria eating your lunch, just as you do everyday, when a student starts picking on you about going to the prom. They mock you, saying you should ask out the most popular girl in school, who you really think is just the most dreamy girl in the world. Then the jock comes along; he sees your gaze cast upon her, and as with every other time, he moves in to beat you down. But today is not like every other day; you have had enough of the abuse and you fight back against the entire school that has treated you so poorly. So begins the Fat Kid’s Adventure!
