Roarr! The Adventures of Rampage Rex

Roarr! The Adventures of Rampage Rex

Roarr! The Adventures of Rampage Rex isn’t dino-mite at all, and to be fair it’s pretty terrible. The graphics are just ugly, really ugly, It felt they were trying to create that old arcade game feel but it doesn’t do any wonders. And the gameplay gets repetitive really quickly and the controls are just awkward and hard to get used to. And the worst thing about this game is that Horrible music, the music is just agony and not only that it repeats over and over to the point where you feel that your ears are going to bleed. The story is simple and nothing special you play as Sue the T-rex who is woken up by an invading alien race who want to take over the world and it’s up to you to save it, not much to phone home about. Kids might enjoy the game but adults, meh, not so much at all. Rating: 1/10

This is a great game for the kids as a time waster. It’s even split screen coop if you want to play with them. The buttons are few so it’s easy for them to learn the controls. For $3 normal price / under $1 on sale, it’s worth it if you have kids that like to play.

WarDogs: Red’s Return

Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show

Redneck Ed: Astro Master Show takes place in a fantasy universe where aliens abduct people, creatures, and beings to make them fight for their amusement.

A fascinating story concept, which would be a waste if the gameplay wasn’t up to it; luckily it is. The gameplay is simple with a fun level progression system and a ton of goofy funky-looking opponents to beat up.

Disclaimer: A copy of this game was provided by the developer.

Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show is an arcade fighting platformer arena game.

The game nails the cartoonish graphics and animations. This is the one thing I can't complain about. The music is good, but sound effects are missing for certain actions leaving you unsatisfied. Sometimes both music and sounds bug out and restart after a few seconds.

There's 15 arena levels to choose from, each having 3 difficulties with 2 challenges per difficulty. The good thing is that each arena feels different enough to offer interesting challenges whether it's waves of enemies, environment or boss battles. The balance is where it goes wrong, some of them feel good, some boring and some feel extremely hard to complete. To progress to new arenas you will need to have played higher difficulties and perform the certain challenges. Besides needing enough stars to unlock new arenas, you will also need to learn the new moves that allow you to complete them at all. Another balance issue is the power creep where the new abilities end up being used and the old ones mostly forgotten.

## Bounty Battle

After a few post-release patches, Bounty Battle is now playing smoothly. It aims for Smash Bros' simplicity: normal attacks are varied by holding a direction with a button press, special attacks function the same way, and that's it. No combos, no counters, and no secret special moves. The problem is the game couldn't stop itself there. The additional systems are all certainly well-meaning: an energy cost for special attacks to encourage mixing in normal ones, spamming punishments to discourage button mashers, and a bounty system to keep the pressure on whoever is doing the best. Sadly the latter, which the game takes its name from, makes the best case for why these extra systems are superfluous.

I've put almost 10 hours into the game which I feel is enough to write a review fairly. So first off yes there is a lot of issues that need to be addressed (the discussions says it all) But! that doesn't mean the game isn't fun. I was able to look the other way with all the issues and actually enjoy the game fully and I have to say it's actually good! A lot of people may not agree with me but i'm not here to argue i'm here to say that this game does have a lot of potential and even though it got released with high expectations for a lot of gamer's and was not delivered at launch does not mean you should look the other away and ignore this game. I realize that the developers are a small crew and that it will take time to address all the known issues but for the mean time I support this game fully. I've enjoyed the content it has at the moment and I am happy I purchased this on day one, this way I can see the game grow and evolve into something even more amazing then it already is! If your hesitant on purchasing the game definitely wish list it and keep an eye out for upcoming updates otherwise I recommend it. Be patient as in time the game will slowly become what everyone wanted.

The game is aimed at people who are interested in sweets and martial arts. During the game we can choose our sweetheart and then go to the famous "Candy Tournament".

The audiovisual setting of the game is extremely colourful and pleasing to the eye even for the most demanding players, in a word, the graphic designer sugar-coated as he could. The realistic image of sweets, for example cakes, in the game is remarkable. Exciting but very relaxing music spices up the fun.

## Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues

It sure is nice to have a new beat em up to play. They don't make too many of these anymore. I particularly like the tie in to the excellent Cobra Kai netflix series. Unlike the show, don't expect this to have any good writing (save for the genuinely funny one liners that the characters have after winning a fight). This is purely a fighting game, one that is clearly a loving homage specifically to the Streets of Rage series. It's both better and worse than Streets of Rage 4, which I'll get in to later. Everyone you run across in the street from hippies to mothers to emo kids are all inexplicably out for your blood, which is funny in its own regard. Sometimes characters will provide humorous meta commentary on this. Every character of note in the netflix series is either playable or is a boss in some level. Cobra Kai has fire powers while Miyagi Do has ice powers. Tone wise, it's far more light and irreverent than the show; it does not take itself seriously in the slightest. Some might find this off-putting, but subjectively this works quite well.

Loved the Karate Kid movies when I was young, I did not really follow the Cobra Kai series but I'm guessing it's as cheesy as the movies, if not more. There is no lack of cheesiness in this game, that's for sure.

Beat 'em Up games also give me those nostalgic feelings of back in the day when I used to play games like; Golden Axe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV, Fighting Force, Double Dragon and Streets Of Rage to name a few.

Graphically, I can't say the game is gorgeous but it also didn't really bother me that much. It actually made me think of another Beat 'Em up "Double Dragon Neon" , a game which I couldn't get into.

## Iron Commando - Koutetsu no Senshi

Iron Commando is a very good example of the genre that deserves to be up there wtih games such as Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Double Dragon etc.

It was made for the arcade cabinets.

Authentic 90's style arcade music, same for the graphics and this game just feels like all the best bits of the genre thrown together and instantly accessible.

I love the variety of weapons, animations of the bad guys, colour palette - everything is just spot on! Great work

As a retro Arcade beat em up 9/10

Have some minor issues with sound skipping / quality on windows 10 when launched in big screen mode.

4/10

As much as I love beat'em'up games, I just don't think Iron Commando is a very good one. You can find all three Streets of Rage games for a cheaper price on Steam and, if you want to play something more recent in the same genre, there are games like Streets of Fury EX and The Takeover.

Iron Commando has some nostalgia value, but overall, it doesn't really hold up much. Even if you play on easy difficulty, enemies are way too aggressive and have an attack range that is bigger than the characters', so you'll find yourself constantly getting hit. It also doesn't help that the screen is way too small for a game like this and you often can't see far enough.

## Legend (1994)

A pathetically lazy port of one of my most treasured SNES hidden gems. This is an objectively worse experience than just straight-up emulating the rom except oops that's precisely what this "port" is doing except the emulator they're using is some barebones trash and I'M GETTING REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS BUT LOOK. LOOK. LEGEND IS IMPORTANT TO ME OK YOU DON'T KNOW HOW UPSETTING IT IS TO SEE IT TREATED WITH SUCH BLATANT, UTTER DISRESPECT. I CAN'T. I CAN'T!

Plus it came in a bundle with fuckin' BUBSY so JOKE'S ON ME I GUESS

Over twenty years have passed since this side scrolling brawler was originally released and that time has not be kind to it. All elements of this game show that age immediately and without a heavy coating of nostalgia to bring up a well of past appreciation there is nothing here to compel the player to keep going.

From a historical design standpoint it's a great example of how this genre has evolved over time. The limited controls, enemy sprites and patternless bosses give a glimpse into the constraints and limitations games were built with back in the 90s.
