So you’ve read the description and now you’re down here in the comments trying to figure out what’s it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game.

Appetite for Detestation is a 3D beat’em up set in the Victorian era where you get to play as the monster reeking havoc on the citizens in order to satiate your blood thirst. After reading that description I am sure you are, like I was, hype to jump into the game and get to slaying. Well, let’s talk about the positives of the game first. The music is probably the best part of the game. It’s eerie, inviting and sets the mood for a monster of the time. The environments are also well designed; plenty of destructive pieces and platforming to be had in each level.

Other players posted that mouse issue was resolved. I returned to try the game out again. I will switch my review to recommend while I try the rest of the game.

Original post:

I really wanted to play this but… Mouse only looks left and right.

Loaded Quake 2 to test. Worked fine…

This is a fairly short, but fun game. Perhaps the two critiques that might help people are: First, is that you have to tap twice on save game before it does anything, and then a 3rd to actually type a name in, before you can even start the game. This should only have been 1 tap. The second tip is that the game defaults to a Azerty keyboard. You will want to go to options and change it over to QWERTY if you want to use the standard WASD movement controls.

Blue fencer Resurrection

Blue fencer Resurrection

A 2D action game featuring the Action editor hero “Yashiyu”.

The castle of Demon King Santa has 8 stages full of powerful enemies.

Invincible dash slash, powerful slash, 6 types of sub weapons.

Make full use of various techniques to overcome the magic castle.

== STORY ==

The mysterious Demon King descended from the other world and led a powerful army to conquer the earth. Many races surrendered to the Demon King and those that resisted were mercilessly exterminated. When everyone was about to give up hope…….without any warning, a brave man appeared.

‘My name is Yasiyu……..’

The blue-haired man left that alone and set out.

The Demon King, who was about to unite the earth, was praying in the temple.

‘Come or Yasiyu let’s settle this.’

Putting an end to the repeated fate, that was also the purpose of the Demon King.

He is the star of hope, the one who saves the earth, the one who is destined to be a brave man. In the eyes of the demons he is a hardcore executioner.

== Game systems ==

The hero consumes SP when he uses the technique.

SP will recover over time.

The main character’s HP decreases when it is attacked by an enemy.

If HP becomes 0, it will be a mistake.

If the hero makes a mistake, HP and SP will increase.

Even people who are not good at action can clear it if they try without giving up.

If you make a mistake, the score you get will decrease, and the score will decrease over time.

Action gamers who are confident in their arms should aim for no mistakes and speed clearing.

== Controls ==

It supports Xinput and DirectInput gamepads, but menu display and shutdown can only be operated with the keyboard.

Please delete the recorded replay from Explorer.

Please select joystick movement in the controller settings.

When Honor Dies

When Honor Dies

When Honor Dies is an action-based singleplayer, hack and slash adventure game with story-telling elements. Its main focus is its combat, which includes sword skills and combos, combined with magic abilities. Fight your way through hordes of enemies, gather orbs, unlock new skills and abilities, and take your revenge.

When Honor Dies is both an action and an adventure game at the same time. What does this mean? It means that the story element is not neglected. Thus, players can get more attached to characters, as well as the world of When Honor Dies.

Fallen Angel

Fallen Angel

Lucifer has returned with only one thing on his mind – claim the seat from the old man. However, this will prove a daunting task. The gates to God are locked, and only the decapitated heads of the Archangels will open this lock. Time to get some payback on these self-righteous fools.

Devilishly fast action

The fast-paced combat, reminiscent of Wizard of Legend, is what initially drew my attention. And, I’m happy to report it passed with flying colours. Your first run should take about six hours, depending on how much you explore and how good you are at separating Archangels from their souls. One important thing I can’t stress enough - ⚠️**DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT PLAY THIS WITH A MOUSE AND KEYBOARD!**⚠️

UPDATE:

As time has gone on the game has gotten more updates, and bugs are continually being fixed. If you have tried the game previously and were turned off by minor things, please give it another chance. It’s a solid experience, and now at a standard price of $15, it’s even more worth it.

Oh man where do I start?

tl;dr

Fallen Angel is a great game and is definitely worth your time if you’re a fan of stylish-action/hack and slash style games. The combat may not be as in-depth as something like Devil May Cry, but it’s still a solid experience for being from such a small team.

Unending Dusk

Unending Dusk

Unending Dusk is a decent beat’em up if you enjoy grinding stats and finding rare attack mods. As you can see I dropped over 80 hours just to max out 2 of the 4 characters. I guess you could say that it has some roguelite elements, although there is no perma-death. The stages are randomly generated so you can run into a secret shop or a hidden area, and that is not counting the stat grind which is usually associated with the genre. For me the game managed to capture the nostalgia that I have for classic beat' em ups, despite having all those new features. In my opinion the combat, aesthetic and the controls are faithfully implemented. I play Streets of Rage (2) very often, by comparison the execution of attacks is essentially the same. Unfortunately, it has no grappling which is perhaps my biggest problem. There are definitely some modern features added to the formula such as character levels and different damage types, but overall it truly feels like a game that could be on Genesis - mainly due to aesthetic.

Real player with 104.7 hrs in game

Unending Dusk is an old-school beat-em-up with ARPG mechanics and a pretty decent, darksynth-esque soundtrack that was admittedly rough around the edges in its early days, but regular updates have smoothed a lot of those edges and made for a compelling cooperative experience whenever I can rope friends into playing it. The developer even does double XP events on occasion. It has up to four-player online coop but regrettably no local option, an odd choice for the genre.

The time and place, a dark cyberpunk future in the last city on Earth. The titular twilight spells impending doom for the city given its reliance on solar power. A brilliant engineer has taken it upon himself to gather a band of the deadliest mercenaries, bounty hunters, soldiers and even religious fanatics he can get to find the source of the unnatural darkness and combat the strange, almost demonic invaders it brought with it.

Re.Surs

Re.Surs

Cool game kind.

pros:

  • great visual style. Very atmospheric and stylish levels.

  • action battles as you need to use hero abilities in time.

  • different weapons with which you can kill demons.

  • different bosses, not very difficult though, it’s okay.

  • intricate strange plot.

  • good jokes)

  • good price.

  • I liked the crazy dancing letters)))

cons:

  • some bosses and fights pissed me off.

  • some basics 2d scroller shooterics are not presented, but mechan yeah it’s experimental.

Real player with 6.8 hrs in game

Quite a cool game, of course not without drawbacks.

cool stuff:

1. Lots of action, especially in the end. Almost Serious Sam sometimes, but you always have proper gun to destroy demons.

2. Some bosses remind old good game console games.

3. Surprisingly lots of stuff for indie game - several main characters, lots of guns, lots of demons

4. Complex and interesting plot, but sometimes there is a feeling like watching Dune without reading book - very interesting, but understood nothing.

5. One of plot twist in the middle reminded me half life, that was quite cool.

Retro Classix: Night Slashers

Retro Classix: Night Slashers

The game itself is amazing, but I can’t recommend this port. I did one full playthrough, and suffered near constant flickering and stuttering, as well as random slowdown. Plus it’s the censored version with the green blood and all that.

Hopefully we get a patch to resolve these issues, but as it stands… it’s a monstrosity.

This is a fun beat ‘em up. It will definitely be a part of my Halloween fun this year.

I played it through entirely and didn’t have any problems at all. However, it seems like lots of people do. I’d suggest trying the nslasher.zip file in MAME 2003 or Final Burn Neo. They worked fine for me in them too.

Kawaii Deathu Desu

Kawaii Deathu Desu

Kawaii Deathu Desu is basically the sum of its parts. It is about as straight foward as a game can get. If there is an enemy to the left, attack left. If there is an enemy to the right, attack right. It really is as simple as that. There has been a lot of comparisons to One Finger Death Punch and I can understand where people are coming from but there is one crucial difference: One Finger Death Punch (OFDP) insists that you don’t button mash. You won’t directly lose if you do, but you will be made vulnerable, and will likely die as a result. It will also damage your score at the end of the level. Kawaii Death Desu does not have such scruples. For this game you will have to break out the old crack hands and go to town as you mash left and right slaughtering thousands before you.

Real player with 31.1 hrs in game

I was expecting something that required a bit of reaction and thinking, like One Finger Death Punch, but instead I found this game to be nothing but mashing. You can beat anything by just killing your fingers.

Then I figured “if it’s so mindless, I might as well put up a macro recording to play the game for me.” So I did. That was a lot more interesting. I actually got quite a kick out of figuring out some kinks that a macro recorder has.

So after one day and one night just letting this fancy screensaver play itself, I got every character unlocked and maxed, and I have zero interest in doing anything with them because the game has no challenge in it. If you have working fingers, you’ll beat it. This isn’t the same as simple being fun, One Finger Death Punch was simple and that was a lot of fun because it bothered to require at least some kind of brain chemistry and had variation. A small child might see the amusement in this thing on a cellphone, that’s who I’d recommend it to.
