Usagi Yojimbo: Way of the Ronin
Like they said, an uncomplicated retro brawler a la Double Dragon or TMNT.
Nothing fency like Mortal Kombat, less violent and good for younger audiences and like the wonderful comic series recommended to those who enjoy Sakai’s art and story telling and who don’t need enemies being stripped of their spines or needless other gore fests.
I got my fun out of it for that price.

I love this game.
I owned the very first game on the C64. It was one of my favourite games back then. Im glad to see it back again.
It stays close to the feel and atmosphere of the original and is graphically better. I love the additional combat moves.
I do wish it was longer, however.
If you liked the old version, pick it up, if not only for the nostalgia.

Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch
Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch is a colorful side-scrolling tag-team beat-em-up where players swap back and forth between our heroes on the fly or perform special moves simultaneously with a friend. Our heroes embark on an epic adventure from the humble corners where they ply their trade to the gates of hell itself.

Mayhem Brawler

Recommend this game :smilekit:
19.08.2021 Unpolished and raw, but decent.
Ehh not best hitboxes (yours and enemies). Simplified combat. Sometimes input delay/response for your combination feels junky.
Prepare for no poise, counter hit bull$hithsu from punched enemies- they are being hit and hit you back(i understand that is an icon mechanism to track) Crowd control is not pleasent to play (prepare to spam safe move: “forward forward +P).
Fist attack needs to have bigger vertical hitbox, when enemies are very close you are unable to hit mob, or grab them

As a 43 years old gamer, I had the opportunity to play many beat’em up games on arcades. Golden Axe, Final Fight, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Captain Commando, Punisher and much more. I loved them all. Now, thanks to several game developers we are able to get similar experiences again. Dragon’s Crown on PlayStation, Streets of Rage 4, Mayhem Brawler and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge are some of the very nice examples.
The art style, graphics, sounds and the general atmosphere of this game is quite good. It’s a tad slow for my liking, but still it’s good and very well varied. Instead of dozens of same enemies with different colors, Hero Concept made themed enemies per stage. I like it.

A neat endless beat ‘em up with a little bit of mobile rhythm game DNA that wears its influences on its sleeve.
It’s a little buggy in places, but that’s easy to forgive considering this is the developer’s first game and the pricetag.

Fisticubes - One Button Boxing!
[I’ve edited my review since the game brought new updates. All small edit notes are like this]
Think “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots”, but instead of robots, it’s cubes who bounce around in a retro Nintendo 64-like world. It’s a game with strong arcade roots - you don’t have long cutscenes, no stories, you just get told how to play and jump in. It also reminds me of mini-game classics like Mario Party, a popular franchise back then which birthed many titles on the N64. If you want quick, mindless fun, it’s one of those games. If you’re at home with a friend and you’re bored, you can avoid a dull evening with Fisticubes.

Soda Girls
I have 12.4 hours registered in the time of this review.
4 characters unlocked and 2 still locked and all available stages at the moment finished with the first girl.
And I’m having a blast.
In short It’s a beat’em up, hard as ol beat’em ups used to be, with lots of personalization and some rpg strokes.
Choose your Soda Girl ™, choose weapon skin, character skin, stage and fight!
From fighting you’ll be getting caps, with caps you can buy and choose upgrades for your girl (+hp, +damage, faster attacks, faster movement, hp recovery, inmunity, more exp, more caps, ……. SO MANY COMBINATIONS). You’ll also get sometimes gifts, gifts can contain huge amounts of caps, weapon or character skins, +hp or +soda upgrades.

Just finished the final level! Gotta say I’ve had a pretty good time playing this the past few days, despite some annoyances and some grinding I had to do, well, didn’t technically have to, but it made some battles a lot easier. Good amount of levels and unique bosses and a lot of unlockables too.
So this is a 2D beat’em up that feels like a fighting game. 7 unique playable characters, 6 of which you unlock, and they each have their own set of moves, 20 for each as I recall. You can make your own combos and you have to be good on your timing if you want to survive. Especially with Jacey and Yumiko, they both have counter attacks, where you have to press the attack (for Jayce) and Dodge (for Yumiko) just before getting hit. tricky to get the hang of, but man is it satisfying and also very effective.

Bully Beatdown
Full disclosure - I helped with play testing, bug testing, made some suggestions, etc. on a beta key given by the developer.
It’s been a while since I’ve played a beat ‘em up game.
This game’s art style and smooth play (even on as old of a machine as mine) was very appealing.
Starting on Easy difficulty seemed like a good step - normal is a bit tough without having some skills leveled up.
The game starts with a very short tutorial that also acts as a way to map your keys / buttons.
As soon as you get accustomed to how the game plays, the strategy for each enemy type, level up skills, etc. you’ll find yourself completing the same difficulty faster if you ever need to restart for any reason.

You are sitting in the school cafeteria eating your lunch, just as you do everyday, when a student starts picking on you about going to the prom. They mock you, saying you should ask out the most popular girl in school, who you really think is just the most dreamy girl in the world. Then the jock comes along; he sees your gaze cast upon her, and as with every other time, he moves in to beat you down. But today is not like every other day; you have had enough of the abuse and you fight back against the entire school that has treated you so poorly. So begins the Fat Kid’s Adventure!
