Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle
i bought this mainly for online coop but overall i enjoyed my experience.
what i liked
-collection of great games.
-2 player online coop plays has no lag, feels smooth like local coop in my opinion.
-drop in/drop out feature lets players connect midgame, you don’t have stay in a lobby doing nothing while waiting for online player to join, you can play the game while waiting and don’t have to restart from level 1 when someone joins.
-options to adjust game difficulty and ### of lives/continues.

Rather than reviewing each of the games in this collection, this will be a brief overview of the bundle itself. I’ve only played few credits as of writing this, but it seems to be sufficient for a general feel of the collection. If my opinion changes I’ll modify this review as needed.
This is a collection of seven arcade beat ‘em ups: Final Fight, Captain Commando, The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Warriors of Fate, Armored Warriors, and Battle Circuit. The Japanese and international versions of each game are available. The inclusion of Armored Warriors and Battle Circuit is particularly nice as I believe this is the first official release of those games outside of arcades.

Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage is a 2 player beat-em-up game for Sega Genesis that was released in 1991 as a response to Capcom’s Final Fight and it’s SNES port, following the same formula of core gameplay: grappling and such. Final Fight on SNES was 1 player only, so it wasn’t hard to be cool despite having smaller less impressive sprites. SoR is known as Bare Knuckle in Japan and it was developed by Sega AM7 team in Sega of Japan. At least it’s probably same people who made Revenge of Shinobi, since it reuses some sounds from there. Released on 4 Megabit ROM, quite standard for it’s time.

Legend (1994)
A pathetically lazy port of one of my most treasured SNES hidden gems. This is an objectively worse experience than just straight-up emulating the rom except oops that’s precisely what this “port” is doing except the emulator they’re using is some barebones trash and I’M GETTING REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS BUT LOOK. LOOK. LEGEND IS IMPORTANT TO ME OK YOU DON’T KNOW HOW UPSETTING IT IS TO SEE IT TREATED WITH SUCH BLATANT, UTTER DISRESPECT. I CAN’T. I CAN’T!
Plus it came in a bundle with fuckin’ BUBSY so JOKE’S ON ME I GUESS

Over twenty years have passed since this side scrolling brawler was originally released and that time has not be kind to it. All elements of this game show that age immediately and without a heavy coating of nostalgia to bring up a well of past appreciation there is nothing here to compel the player to keep going.
From a historical design standpoint it’s a great example of how this genre has evolved over time. The limited controls, enemy sprites and patternless bosses give a glimpse into the constraints and limitations games were built with back in the 90s.

Classic 90s fighting video game! Tonns of enemies, SNES graphics and cool soundtrack! This game brought me forgotten memories of 90s, when we played video games on TV with friends. Good old times! ^^
About the game:
I completely loved the amount of enemies (classic video games nostalgy again!) and how different they are. Men, women, dogs, Huge Bosses! And they are coming in waves, jumping, trying to catch you, attack you with knives and other weapons. And my charcter can also grab some enemy and throw him to incoming wave! I totally loved this feature! More than that, slain enemies are leaving money, food and weapons on the ground, so I can use all the dropped weapons.

Double Dragon IV
Double Dragon… I played this game at a friend of mine who owned a Nintendo in the late 80s. Double Dragon 4 was for sale for around 5 euro with the same look and feel as the old game. This was for me a no-brainer to buy this game.
The Settings
In 1 word: crap. It is not so easy to get your keyboard settings done. It is not an intuitive system. Check very good what you are setting (keyboard or pad) and make sure you select the right input controller. The standard buttons are not common, so make sure to change it so you can play it your way.

Ah, Double Dragon IV, a game made by those guys that love to make amazing fighting style games with amazing character designs and infinite combos. Just by booting this game, you can immediately notice that ArcSys did their best to bring back a dead game.
Double Dragon IV has the same plot as all other Double Dragon games; two dudes fight some baddies that kidnapped their girlfriend… The artstyle here is amazing and makes you feel all fuzzy inside, just remembering all those crazy white nights you’ve spent beating Williams and Lindas in Double Dragon II for the NES… Think of this game as a spiritual successor of Double Dragon II.

Dragonview
This game does everything a video game is supposed to do. Always entertaining but with a bit of a challenge to it. Love the battle system, not boring turn based like most RPG’S. Well worth the meagre price they charge !

This game is, in my humble opinion, a masterpiece of SNES era design. The story is uniquely told through an almost storybook presentation, and you control a warrior named Alex- questing to rescue his beloved from the clutches of an evil wizard. It’s simple, but effective- with an omnipotent narrator seemingly watching events unfold as you play.
Gameplay is a hybrid between first-person exploration of a quite pretty(if somewhat spacious) overworld, and a hack n slash 2D fighting in dungeons, overworld encounters and towns. You’ll slice and dice with a standard sword and a not so standard bladed disc of awesome known as the Hauza; both have a pleasant mix of animations and sound effects combining to ensure combat has a satisfying crunch. You’ll gain experience, upgrade both weapons and armor(with lovely sprite/color changes for all three), and even equip and enhance various elemental magicks. Friendly wizards are not to be passed by, especially if they appear stranded.

Asterix & Obelix XXL 2
Asterix and Obelix were a big part of my childhood. Besides having read the comics and all the films I had never actually heard of any Games of this frenchise. It wasn’t until a big Microids Sale that I came across a game entitled Asterix and Obelix XXL 2 that immediately caught my attention. And so I bought it hoping for some nostalgia
Positive
-the game really manages to catch the ultimate Asterix and Obelix vibes with funny cutscenes, puns and tons of iconic quotes a la “These romans are crazy”

I have played the original several times and absolutely loved it.
I like what they have done with the graphics in this remasted version. I also like the changes to the updates / skill / shop system.
The challenges are pretty nice as well.
What is incredibly annoying is this Water-Mario (I’m just going to call them as such) which pushes you back with their water stream. When you play on difficulty hard you will hate them very fast. They don’t do any damage to you, but while getting pushed back you are also almost stunned, you can barely move around and you can’t perform any kind of attack. To recap: Water-Mario is annoying in the regular game. HOWEVER, whoever had the idea to add a Water-Mario challenge should be forced to play this every single day on difficulty hard and is only allowed to stop when getting gold.

Fight’N Rage
Good game overall, takes a lot of things from classics maybe to the point where it starts hurting the game own identity.
Gameplay is a mix of classic beat-em-up with a few mechanics from fighting games, most enemies are archetypes you will recognize if you’ve played SoR1-3 and Final Fight, also features branching levels.
Has a fairly spiky difficulty curve (some level branches in particular are much harder) and has a really high difficulty ceiling (less so than say SoR2 but not by much), lower difficulties accessible enough for most to have some fun (especially easy mode which is almost insultingly easy), difficulty curve turns to a cliff once you start looking past hard mode which means most won’t ever see the last two difficulty levels.

Being a child of the 80’s and 90’s, there was no shortage of beat em‘ up games. Titles such as Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and Double Dragon were all the rage and kept you entertained for hours on end. Sadly, the current gaming landscape is nearly devoid of games such as these. Outside of a few gems that are still years old, beat em’ ups are pretty much dead. Thankfully, Indie developers don’t know this and are still cranking them out. This is where Fight’N Rage comes in!
I only recently heard about Fight’N Rage, and that was only due to me looking at another game – which I won’t mention. Instead, I began to see comments about a little-known game in development. One that had quite the following. My interest piqued, I started to search for the game and found little information. Buried beneath dead websites and Reddit posts, I found the name of the developer and the title – Fight’N Rage. A game that inspired by countless Beat ’em up titles from the past and puts a spin on it. There are references to those games littered everywhere as well.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara
If you’re thinking this is just going to be another double dragon game then like what Captain Tenneal likes to say on the show MXC: “Well, YOU’RE WRONG!!!”
This game incorporates some of the most advanced mechanics you’ve ever seen in any beat-em-up. And mind you these two games came out wayyyy back in 1996. Expect to see: Critical hits in your attacks, spell casting, combos, FOUR PLAYERS!, backstabbing, infinite combos (if you’re good enough), secrets, forked paths, different equiappable weapons, level ups, and unlockable in game perks such as arts, galleries, and even house rules to play around with.

Gather your party before setting forth! Or just yourself. That way you don’t need to see the disappointment in your friend’s eyes as you die to a kobold.
“BY THE ABYSS
- Fighter, every time he falls down. Every time.
Chronicles of Mystara is two ported games with some retro flair - Shadow Over Mystara, which is a cult classic beatemup which has as much accolades as Gary Gygax giving birth to the 20-sided die, and there’s Tower of Doom, which can come too.
They’re coin-op arcade games with a flair for the tabletop, giving you classes, items, branching paths, Tower of Doom even has effects for enemies failing saving throws. All of this makes for a game that’s novel, intricate by nature, and has earned its cult classic status.
