No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
The fact that they released an old game in this state is absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable.
-
Partial controller support for a game that doesn’t support kb+m despite the fact that it could work (you need workarounds in order to play with Dualshock 4 for gods sake).
-
Constant crashing during load screens. You know that lovely feeling of doing side stuff for hours only to have the game crash on you and removing all your progress because autosave isn’t a thing? Outstanding.
-
No options whatsoever. Wow look, you can toggle fullscreen on or off, so advanced.

SPOILERS AHEAD! PLAY THE GAME FIRST THEN READ MY REVIEW!
Aaaaand that’s the next game all done! What an experience this game was. Let’s begin with the review:
Soooo…once again, I’m glad I gave these games a chance and I’m glad that I bought both of these instead of just one, definitely got a more fuller experience with them. So, where do I stand on this game?
Story/Narrative
While I don’t think this game is narratively better than the first game, The assassins in this game don’t feel like real people at times and more or less just feel like ‘oh, just another bad guy for Travis to fight to get to the top, I guess.’ It’s kind of jarring going from a game that had characters with some levels of depth to them and you could almost feel their struggles up until they died to a sequel where only a few of the assassins actually feel like they’re properly fleshed, and one of those few is just a character from the first game brought back from the dead that Travis himself doesn’t even get to face, with that character being ‘New Destroyman’, instead Shinobu fights him (or rather them since there’s two now and it’s kind of an annoying fight, ngl.) The story is….worse than the first game and while it has it’s good moments in it as well like Henry fighting an anime mecha girl, Shinobu making her moves on Travis which is uhhh…kind of funny and kind of weird at the same time considering the fans who probably DID ship them got slapped in the face and those who didn’t were probably just thinking ‘Yeah, that seems about right’, and Travis and Sylvia having more banter (which was some of my favorite moments in the first game and this one since we got to see the two interact more here and form a sort of…screwed up bond), overall, the story is just…okay, not as good as the first game’s but not god-awful either…Jasper is a really crappy character, though, ngl, he’s comic-book as heck and he really only just made Travis get out of retirement because of him killing Greg/Bishop…who barely mattered before in the games asides from him fetching your bike on NMH1 and running the shop in both games. It’s just kind of sad we didn’t get a better story considering how amazingly improved everything else was.

No More Heroes
Welcome to the Garden of Madness, Sudabros…
tldr; the game is great, but the port is not
–——————
The non-technical part of this port is still good, even after 14 years, the game has it’s charm. The heart and soul of the game is still here (except “Heavenly Star” is absent, but you can mod it back in), but the technical side of this port - OH THE TECHNICAL SIDE..
As you could see, most of the reviews here talk about the lack of controller support (KB+M is not an option;
! and why would you even want to play it on KB+M? ) - the game only supports XBOX360 controller, BUT DS4Windows works just fine for me.

Yes. But not yet.
the game works really well, but there’s some bugs that need fixing.
Here’s some stuff nobody else is saying:
-
A bunch of achievements are broken, specifically those that have progression tracking. The counting doesn’t work properly. Those who have the achievement “Dial M for Massacre” are using SAM… for shame guys.
-
There’s some particular segments in the game where you need to hit a target at the right time but the timing is extremely finicky if not completely broken. Luckily they are all optional, but some are tied to a certain achievement. It’s not impossible per se, but I sure avoided them like the plague.

Kate: Collateral Damage
Kate feels smol. Akane was already a small game but Kate for some reason feels even smaller.
Nevertheless I think this is an easier entry into this genre.
It mixes the classical Arcade-Slashing with some Rogue-lite elements and tries to reproduce the story of the movie with some really creative liberties.
The abilities are a bit underdeveloped here when compared to Akane. In Akane you had not only two sword abilities but also special sword or gun abilities depending on your loadout.
Kate simplifies the whole thing and makes the game a lot easier.

This masterpiece surprised me. I bought it as a fan of the movie and, in the end, it surpassed my expectations:
Pros
(6 Points)
+Have in mind that Hotline Miami and Hades are related games, whereas Kate is a improved experience of HM' style;
+Has original ‘Story-Line’, made in different levels, that makes u excited to complete it;
+Has a merchant that offers new abilities, and improve your lifespan with extra content. Makes u wanna play it again and again, each time more ready for battle;

Mr. Shifty:
The mega plutonium has been stolen and well-guarded in the impenetrable Olympus Tower by its owner Chairman Stone and his goons. We need the best person to break into this facility and recover the plutonium and we need it fast! The only name that I have in mind is Mr. Shifty and his brilliant operator, Nyx. Give me the phone - I need to make a swift call to Mr. Shifty!

I did not have a history with Top-Down Shooters (also known as Twin Stick Shooters) until Hotline Miami. Since then I have started to enjoy them more, especially with Nuclear Throne. I usually saw them as cheap little games that had very little to offer, but those aforementioned games and a few others (Enter The Gungeon) have put them back on the map. However, those heavy-hitters are already so good that one might find it difficult to break some new ground. And yet, Mr. Shifty comes and seduces with a mechanic that just feels perfectly at home with this viewpoint: a “blink” or “teleport” ability, that you might know from Dishonored’s Corvo, X-Men’s Nightcrawler or a few MOBAs that borrow it from WarCraft III’s Warden hero.

## Hanako: Honor & Blade
I'm going to comment solely on the feel of combat since IMO that's the most 'make or break' factor in a PvP game. As of writing this review the game offers 4 classes, 3 melee and 1 ranged.
The ranged character uses a bow and its pretty typical of what you would expect from such a class. Mechanics like projectile drop and needing to lead on a moving target respect the physics of shooting an arrow but they're not overly difficult as to become aggravating. You can play back and aim your shots or you can get close and spam arrows, its a good mix of skill & spray-n-pray.

First off, the Devs have worked really hard to get this game to where it is now and it shows. When I had my first few games I had expected broken mechanics or obvious inbalance of the classes. However I was pleasantly surprised that they have a very strong foundation in place.
All 3 classes play differently with their own unique style to learn and bring out the fantasy that they are known for. Easy to pick up and learn but also some depth for those who want to truly master their classes mechanics.

## Armed with Wings: Rearmed
Having played the original Armed With Wings and its sequels as a kid, I was really excited when this was greenlit for Steam. I always wondered how a small 30min or so flash game would fare and what kind of final product the developers could create.
I gotta say, the final result exceeded my expectations.
SPOILERS BELOW (Though really, the original game has been out for so long that it really doesn't matter)
The lore behind the first game and its sequels really created a lot of creative potential in expanding the idea of this game. Now that I think about, the gameplay in the original Armed With Wings was a lot less dynamic then its successors. It got to the point where I was confused at how the Lone Warrior was able to defeat Vandheer when he was so powerful in the 2nd game.

I dsicovered the armed with wings series by pure accident and I played the games since they were released on armorgames.com. I played a bit of the first one,but I wasn't all too into it. The next game in the series I played was…blood moon I think it was called? It was a good game,but I wasn't all too into that one either. I was able to tell they were the same game however. Next up,I played armed with wings two,following the story of vandheer lorde. It was right up my alley. The boss fights,the atmosphere,the enemies,the five main weapons of choice you could pick. (One was endgame.) However,it didn't have it's own soundtrack at this point if memory serves,just used other music. Didn't really phase me however. It had been a few years and I had found the third game of the series,this one adding some new twists on the combat system,which I loved so much. You fought with not only your sword,but now with different martial arts styles. (The god styles were the most powerful of course. What would you expect?) Lastly was culmination,which was essentially armed with wings 1 with more polish I guess? I dunno,the game was confusing to me.

## Suit for Hire
This is the best non-turn-based John Wick simulator. Running around face shooting and doing gun fu and knife takedowns never gets old. My only complaint would be the difficulty, but for me that just makes it have more value as I play a level over and over trying to beat it. Some might get frustrated, though, at going all the way back to the beginning of each level when you die.
Each level gives you a set location and group of badguys to take out, usually on your way to some kind of objective, even though there is no story at present to give any meaning to the killing. That is fine with me, but it might urk some. They are planning to add cut scenes, though, so for now, make up your own story about how the people he's going after killed his car and stole his dog right after his sister died or something.

The combat for this game is well executed.
It rewards you with a full magazine for landing 7 back-to-back pistol shots.
Missed some of your shots? No problem, the game encourages you to mix it up with a close quarters option as a stylishly fancy way of getting more ammo for your pistol.
Performing an up close finisher on an enemy gives you a full magazine in your pistol. In order to have a chance to do a finisher you'll need to build up a meter using punches and kicks.
Punch and kick are on 2 separate buttons, this is important to take note of because kicking objects towards enemies (including grenades) is a mechanic in the game.
