Spellbreak

Spellbreak

Context:

I have been playing since the earliest days of the Pre-Alpha and am probably one of the first players to ever enter. Now to be fair I am not the most active, but combining all platforms together I have somewhere above 1500h playtime since 2018.

Review:

I love this game and that holds true even though this is a negative review. However, I can no longer recommend this game for the following reasons:

1. Spellbreak For Dummies

The game has been “streamlined” from its original complexity in the pre-alpha. From what used to be many different classes and access to every gauntlet at all times (even duplicate gauntlets could be carried), you now get 6 classes and a total of 12 talents. In a lobby you have access to 1 class and 3 talents, which cost talent points to use. You can carry a main gauntlet and an offhand, the exception being the Spellslinger Talent which allows you to carry extra gauntlets and runes in your inventory at the cost of slots for heals.

While I absolutely love Spellbreak’s combat system, it has a lot of missed potential with blaring issues that either never get fixed or take forever to get addressed.

I have been playing the game since it launched back in September with 500+ hours on the Switch version and 150+ on the Steam version.

There are several issues with the game that is easiest just to list out:

1: Bots. Almost every match done in the Battle Royale mode will have some amount of bots in it generated by the game. The game at no point mentions these bots exist within the game nor does the game identify which characters are bots and which are real players. I went my first 10 hours not even noticing that a lot of what I was facing were bots. At low level play it gives a false sense of accomplishment, and at high level play they are just free loot that pretends to fight back.

You’re all playing it wrong, let me teach you the ways of the Magical Masters. Spend 25 mins earning that sweet magicical cash then buy the highest power wand and it’s game over.. or it was for me at least as I died within 5 seconds of starting a new round without hitting anyone, made no difference at all.

The enemy AI camp outisde your spawn point and you can’t get out of the door without getting murdered by a hail of rapid fire magistical lasers. Your team’s AI either stands around motionless or comically ice skates backwards across the gym and gets stuck in the wall.

TOUHOU SKY ARENA MATSURI CLIMAX

Very fun game. There is plenty of characters you can play. Voice acting and graphic is good too.

Though if you are mainly interested in playing online then you should think twice before buying this game. Vast majority of players are Asian and if you are, for example, a European you will probably have to put up with lags unless you host a match. Also, sadly there aren’t that many players. Depending on the time you play you may not even be able to find an opponent for quite a long. What I didn’t liked about ranked games is that it seems that if you abandon the match there is no penalty. I happened to play with someone who quited 2-3 times in a row. I know that it’s annoying playing with lags, it can be hard to win unless you are a way better than your opponent or just got a bit lucky, but if there’s no penalty at all for abandoning the matches you just cannot drop in ranking even if you keep quitting them all the time.

There was nothing wrong with the game play or presentation. The game is very entertaining to play and enough effort was placed into the audio/visual quality to pass as a good game. Everything about the game was fine all the way to the point when I started doing the single player mode, then I came into technical problems.

I am unable to complete arcade mode without the game crashing during the load of a stage. A couple of times it happened on stage 2, then another time on stage 5.

These crashes do also occur in Sky Adventure mode, but since it’s stage select and no progress is lost, I didn’t mind it as much.

Valgrave: Immortal Plains

games actually really fun. main issue is only duos, so if your a solo player like me you might not have fun. the movement spells does it for me. you can have any combo of spells and do what you like. some shit may be better, but if you are good with landing spells its fine. its still really early on in the games life, the devs are active and in their discord, they listen to the community since its such a small game right now. I highly recommend trying this game

Honestly a great game. My friends and I were looking for a fun game to play together. We were surprised with how much we enjoyed playing this game. Although the game is deceptively simple and easy enough to get into it also offers a competitiveness that we found refreshing. As the game is still new, It’s cool you can talk to the devs directly on discord and offer suggestions. They DO respond and welcome honest feedback. We all plan to play this game much more! Give it a shot, its free!

Dragon War

Dragon War

This game has good potential. The idea of fighting other dragons and having to worry about more than one is rad. I like how each dragon varies and has different abilities but overall are the same, which makes the fighting a bit more fair. The AI will circle around a bunch and do lots of movements that can be very mind boggling or annoying. The game is obviously in early release so there is lots of updates that are needed. I definitely recommend this game and give it a chance to help devs build it further

Spellsworn

Spellsworn

Spellsworn is an amazing warlock arena game that takes a well beloved mod and turns it into a spellcasting competitive game with a high skill ceiling.

Basics

In Spellsworn players choose different spells (max 8) at the start of each round cosisting of melee, offensive, defensive spells, utility and mobility and there are over 28 spells for players to create their own combos and playstyles.

The game is 100% skill based and the defensive system works by either using a defensive spell, or casting a projectile to cancel out the other one.

ITS RELEASE DAY. GIVE IT A GO. Seriously, just try at least. It’s a free, top-down, 2.5d battle royale with MOBA-like mechanics and characters, and character design reminiscent of Ragnarok Online. You can tailor your character’s build and pathing, there’s around 20 champs to try, one game lasts around 10 min. It’s cute, and easy to pick up. Population is low atm, but expect more at official launch (hopefully). If you tried before and left when they removed crafting, it’s mostly back but now a lot more like Black Survival.

Ok I dont’t really write reviews too often but i feel like i need to for this game since i put so many hours into it, I used to play back in the days when it was early access like pretty pretty early on, i probably joined the game 1 month after it was put on steam, and by no means was the game that popular at that stage also, now the game is completely different then it used to be back when it first released, the game pretty much just stole everything from Eternal Return: black survival and put it into their game.

Although there isn’t much in the game it is still really fun.

Real player with 2.4 hrs in game

Farm Fatale is a farm based Battle Royale game and more than just weird. The twist of this game is, that it plays on a farm and all shot opponents turn into animals (horses, pigs, chickens or foxes), who wildly run around the map, creating a total chaos. The animals can not be taken out directly, and if they find some human essense (dropped by other killed players), they can respawn as regular players on the map again. I found it pretty frustrating, that the criteria for a final elimination are completely unclear, because the player count is going to drop throughout the game, but there is no apparent way how players can influence this after downing players and turning them into animals.
