The Fog

The Fog

Before you read: Keep in mind I’m still playing, and I’ve only played about 25 minutes so far, and died once.

So, I think my experience with this game is… odd, so far.

You’re dropped into nowhere, with very little explanation of what’s going on. You have no tutorial, no helpboxes short of just the occasional “E to interact” “Space to pick up”, etc. You’re not actually taught how to use the items, you need to kinda figure it out.

The graphics are a bit weird, they kinda remind me of DayZ’s early days and I think it’s a little bit rough. The lighting is very peculiar, and the flashlight doesn’t really help all that much - especially after you’ve taken damage.

Guard of Wonderland VR

Before I started playing, I had some doubts about the VR and how it’s gonna looks like here. Honestly, I have never encountered such games, because I don’t really understand, how’s possible make strong hard-oriented story games for VR.

Nevertheless, the game just dragged on and made me went through and through - yes, it certainly is not an “experience”, not a shooter or a shooting range.. This is more of a brave experiment, which, as for me - success.

There is still something to strive for and seek for other decisions (may be new ideas, how to optimize interface?), but the work which’s done is impressive!

After 9+ hours spent in Guard - what can i say.. It’s for sure dark story, based on Wonderland lore. If you’ve read zenescope comics, played AMR or watched 1st Burton movie, prefer such kind of twisted surrealism - you’ll enjoy this game. All story is made in a verse, what is very seldom in games even now - I can remember only Child of Light from Ubisoft, also fairytale, but about Aurora (- Sleeping Beauty), but not so dark and twisted. Guard offers to find out, how the things are going on it’s real way, behind the adventure, that you see in front of you. All is much more complicated - but I passed thruogh the whole story and beat up true ending. Guys, i’m impressed, don’t regret your time - it’s worth it.

Captivating Point and Click Adventure

I enjoyed playing through this game twice, I’d say that if you’re interested, you should pick it up.

It’s a story-based game inspired by the book of the same name by Harlan Ellison (who voices the character of AM in game).

Good, but this game was developed in the ’90s, so you can imagine that the graphics will reflect that era. The graphics are not bad at all. I’d say that they still hold up somewhat and the graphics don’t take away from the game.

Make no mistake about I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream….it is NOT a horror game, at least not in the typical sense. It’s not trying to make you jump in your seat and scream in shocked terror. It has no interest in what many would call “cheap thrills”. Instead, what this game wants to do is provoke your thought-process. It is a very cerebral game, with dark undertones that force you to think about the dark side of humanity, and whether or not there is redemption for our fatal flaws. It isn’t afraid to present you with disturbing topics such as suicide, rape, even genocide, and make you deal with them. Although there is a tint of light-heartedness, 99% percent of the game is drenched in an atmosphere of hopelessness as you scramble to make amends for the characters' pasts in an attempt to thwart the diabolical supercomputer, AM.

Discouraged Workers TEEN

Discouraged Workers TEEN

A quite weird visual novel, actually.. in some senses.

First point - there is no interaction, there are no choices until the end of the game, which is fortunately quite long for its genre, even if you have constantly the feeling of being unable to have an impact on the game itself.

Towards the end, you are asked to save some times (only twice actually but anyways XD) and you can make your first and only choices.. but nothing really breathtaking, although they’re of course fundamental for the (few) endings.

This game is pretty short, but the storyline drew my attention. Discouraged Workers is a visual novel game that includes a depressed 28 year old woman struggling to find a job (discouraged). There’s three routes in this game I believe, however there’s a lack of interactivity till the end of the storylines.

Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth

Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth

OLD STYLE HORROR… Oh Yea!

Intro:

This game is based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, author of “The Call of Cthulhu” and progenitor of the Cthulhu Mythos. It is a reimagining of Lovecraft’s 1936 novella The Shadow over Innsmouth. Set mostly in the year 1922, the story follows Jack Walters (previously a police detective) and now private detective who is trying to solve cases even when there wasn’t any evidence. On September 6, 1915, he was called by the police to investigate a decrepit manor where gunshots were heard. A group of an unknown cult (Fellowship of the Yith) lived there and it’s leader, Victor Holt, demanded the police only send Jack in exchange for their cooperation. Strangely, Jack had never met or heard of Victor Holt before. As Jack entered the manor’s compound, all hell broke loose and both the police and the cultists started shooting at one another. You take it from here. All hell is about to break loose in the game.

I am a fan of both Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s fantastic literary body having read most of his work and also the Role playing game the Call of Cthulhu (the table top one not the new one). I very much enjoyed this game despite the glitches (should you wish to play without the glitches I would suggest that you either buy this game on good old games or install the patch that can be found online, and turn down the resolution for the very last bit of the game to the lowest setting).

I have to say that don’t go into this game expecting something akin to one of Lovecraft’s stories word for word, while it deals with the same themes and even one of the same characters this game is a bit of Lovecraft salad. You get bits from The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Call of Cthulhu, The Shadow out of time, Dagon, At the Mountains of Madness and even some references to The

Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops: The Line

About halfway through Yager’s third-person-shooter Spec Ops: The Line, in one of the game’s most controversial moments, I found myself disgusted and infuriated. Not at the scene I’d just witnessed, or at the game’s statement as a whole, but rather that it even needs to be said at all. Two of the ten bestselling video games of all time are Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . The “military shooter” is one of the most successful genres of the last ten years, and the objective of these games is to kill people. Lots of people. We eat it up non-stop, and always, always ask for sequels seconds. In order to keep the profit margins wide, we are encouraged to never think about it, to never stop and look at ourselves with a critical, compassionate, clear eye. Of course, it’s not only Hollywood that benefits from the blinders we’ve all put on, since only the desperate and crazy would fight our wars for us if it weren’t for the glorification of war peddled by the governments of this strange, sad world upon which we find ourselves spinning through the abyss.

Spec Ops The Line is a great third person shooter, with a very dark story, there are some tough choices to make and the game really knows how to portray mental illness. It certainly is a must have.

Dubai has been hit by the heaviest sandstorms in recorded history, John Konrad volunteered the 33rd to help with a relieve mission in Dubai after their tour in Afghanistan. You play as Captain Martin Walker who served with Konrad in Afghanistan, you have 2 Delta Force elites under your command for the mission, And you are being sent to Dubai for a recon mission. Once there you find the horrors of war find out what the 33rd did and go on your own mission; Revenge. The game forces you to make morally heavy choices, or choices will be made for you. I won’t go in too deep because I don’t want to give any spoilers, But I think it is a great representation of war and the effects of it.

Immortal Defense

Immortal Defense

Some of you have probably been waiting for this game to pop up. I considered about where to put it for a little while before eventually deciding to have it be at the very end. That’s because, in my opinion, Immortal Defense is the best tower defense on Steam at the moment.

The peaceful planet Dukis finds itself under attack by the evil Bavakh empire, a war-faring race of red, devilish aliens. Their armadas are vast, and with no notable army of their own Dukis is no match. However, they have one trick up their sleeve: Subject K, who has volunteered to be a Path Defender, a process that involves separating his soul from his body and sending it up into space. It’s unclear whether K represents one of his names, or whether he’s the eleventh person they’ve tried this with. Once up there, K gains the ability to see the Bavakh’s ships as they move through Pathspace (basically hyperspace), and the power to attack and destroy them before they reach their destination.

Real player with 89.3 hrs in game

Whether you’re new or old to tower defense games, Immortal Defense is a good buy. With tons of unique mechanics but still holding together what makes a good tower defense a good tower defense, and on top of that all a great story considering it’s a game where you’re shooting geometrical shapes flying on a line… Immortal Defense is amazing for what it is.

In Immortal Defense, you play as a Pathspace Defender whose goal is to defend your home planet by literally becoming a god and shooting invisible hellbeams from another plane of existence at people who are invading you. You do this by what else- placing towers! While the story and gameplay get more complicated than that (and bring all sorts of delightful twists and turns), that is the basic premise to the game.
