Beast Quest

Beast Quest

The Game is good in all but the price is just too crazy! The price just makes the game look like a (CASH GRAB) and the game is only like 3 hours and a half long. I got this game on a winter sale for £8.00 but i found out that normally the game is £30.00 Which is just stupid. I would reccomend the game to people who like RPGs but for hardcore gamers well this game is just a no no. The game has got some good graphics but if you are going to buy this i reccomend you wait for a sale.

Thank for Reading

Good Ideas Marred by Horrific Technical Issues

Beast Quest is a short High Fantasy game with some very solid gameplay features, but the bugs, glitches, and numerous other technical issues really overshadow any good this title has to offer. While it is by no means a horrible game, it is definitely not something I would recommend (not even to children) because it is so unfathomably broken. As my friend put it, the game is essentially held together by “sweat and duct tape.” After 100%ing the game, here are my final thoughts:

The Fog

The Fog

Before you read: Keep in mind I’m still playing, and I’ve only played about 25 minutes so far, and died once.

So, I think my experience with this game is… odd, so far.

You’re dropped into nowhere, with very little explanation of what’s going on. You have no tutorial, no helpboxes short of just the occasional “E to interact” “Space to pick up”, etc. You’re not actually taught how to use the items, you need to kinda figure it out.

The graphics are a bit weird, they kinda remind me of DayZ’s early days and I think it’s a little bit rough. The lighting is very peculiar, and the flashlight doesn’t really help all that much - especially after you’ve taken damage.

Game of Thrones

A great mature RPG.

  • Very good, tight, quite lengthy and powerful story (with a fair amount of twists and multiple endings)

  • Interesting main and side characters

  • Good (sometimes perhaps a little too strict) to very good voice acting (and plenty at that)

  • Nicely written, believable dialogues (there are light dialogue trees too)

  • Thick character and world lore (accessible to people new to GOT by codex/encyclopedia pages ingame)

  • Nice music (composed by the TV show composer, it seems)

  • For fans: Familiar places (King’s Landing, The Wall, …) and cameos (Joer Mormont and Varys have their looks and voices from the TV show)

Foreword: I didn’t read the books yet, because it mostly wouldn’t be healthy to do so and watch the show the same time. First you’d of course spoiler yourself, second you’d be unsatisfied with script author’s decisions, as usual. But no matter if you’re a fan of the show or of the books, it’s just happening in Westeros with the famous characters near you. Yet, there’s a bitter truth about this game: Not everything that shines is gold.

Warning: If you’re photosensitive, stay away. There are a number of flashing cutscenes and transition effects that cannot be turned off or disabled. At the end is a series of flashes that are painful to watch even without being photosensitive.

Another very solid Metroidvania-lite from Team Ladybug, who made the wonderful Touhou Luna Nights a few years ago. Like their previous game, this is a “lite” form of the genre, where you have the game broken up into stages (while still being interconnected) and it is much more linear than some of the other examples of the genre. Each stage after the first contains one major progression ability, two bosses, and a scattering of other upgrades, spells, and weapons lying around.

The Lords of the Earth Flame

The Lords of the Earth Flame

This game is an interactive fiction if you love reading you’ll enjoy it. The story will be decided by your choices which will lead you to multiple endings, your choices do have consequences either good or bad ones. It was easy to follow the story and unlock many achievements but a couple of them I had to look for a guide in order to know how to unlock it. (the joker one)

I liked the fact that the interface is a book which you can flip through the pages and choose the extra pages (your choices) from the bottom of the book to resume reading, I do love books so excuse me for fangirling about books and papers lol.

The game is an interactive fantasy fiction made to look like a real old book with classic art and meaningful choices that lead to quite different and sometimes abrupt endings (permadeath). There are no dice throws like in Livingstone’s games (i.e. The Forest of Doom), no RPG-like stats, just behavior variants to pick. The text is well written, the choices seem logical, so you can more or less predict the outcome, but the story itself is very short, it seems that you can open all the endings through several tries in less than an hour, so it feels like a free demo to something much more serious. Despite its size it is not free of bugs - sometimes you get thrown to the beginning or game just hangs.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut

It’s a good game, closing in on great. Story is really good, graphics is decent or even good considering it is pretty old(you can’t pull of Witcher 3-graphics with a EE) and the background graphics, like the sky in Murky Waters, are really good. The combat flows well for being somewhat turn-based, it feels odd at first but past the Prologue you get the hang of it. The way you gain skills when leveling up is interesting but in the end get to many low and mid skills, there is not much chosing to do.

Ok, I like this game.

First, if you play this game, don’t expect a AAA experience; you wont find it here, even by 2008 standards. You also find that good voice acting in this game is scarce, but the voice acting is overall passable. Combat will feel wonky when you start playing, but one you get used to it, it will feel pretty good, to the point where you may actually prefer it over Witcher 2’s combat (I know I do). Unlike the Witcher 2, this game doesn’t feel watered down because consoles; this was a PC only game and this was all CD PROJEKT could muster at the time. The first chapter will feel pretty mediocre (although you wont be there long) until the end of it and the swamps in the second chapter will make you want to stop playing (and you will be there a while and you’ll be there several times), but other than that, the game’s areas are pretty good. In particular, I liked Chapter 4’s areas the most. Game graphics are both good and bad; environments and some character models are well done, while others just straight up look cursed. This game can go for less than £1 on sale, so there is no way that I would say that this game isn’t worth it; because it is worth it. It also sets Witcher 2 up well and potentially nets you some slightly better equipment for starting that game, which is useful if you play the Witcher franchise on the hardest difficulties (Hard, Dark, Death March!). Oh, and make sure you stock up on Swallow in this game; it’s kind of essential.

Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth

Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth

OLD STYLE HORROR… Oh Yea!

Intro:

This game is based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, author of “The Call of Cthulhu” and progenitor of the Cthulhu Mythos. It is a reimagining of Lovecraft’s 1936 novella The Shadow over Innsmouth. Set mostly in the year 1922, the story follows Jack Walters (previously a police detective) and now private detective who is trying to solve cases even when there wasn’t any evidence. On September 6, 1915, he was called by the police to investigate a decrepit manor where gunshots were heard. A group of an unknown cult (Fellowship of the Yith) lived there and it’s leader, Victor Holt, demanded the police only send Jack in exchange for their cooperation. Strangely, Jack had never met or heard of Victor Holt before. As Jack entered the manor’s compound, all hell broke loose and both the police and the cultists started shooting at one another. You take it from here. All hell is about to break loose in the game.

I am a fan of both Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s fantastic literary body having read most of his work and also the Role playing game the Call of Cthulhu (the table top one not the new one). I very much enjoyed this game despite the glitches (should you wish to play without the glitches I would suggest that you either buy this game on good old games or install the patch that can be found online, and turn down the resolution for the very last bit of the game to the lowest setting).

I have to say that don’t go into this game expecting something akin to one of Lovecraft’s stories word for word, while it deals with the same themes and even one of the same characters this game is a bit of Lovecraft salad. You get bits from The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Call of Cthulhu, The Shadow out of time, Dagon, At the Mountains of Madness and even some references to The

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is slavjank at its finest. While the game has aged relatively well, one must still keep in mind that this is a game produced with shoestring budget and had a somewhat troubled development cycle. The caveats in mind, STALKER is an excellent semi-open world shooty-survival-y romp with a decent story to it. The story is told through a few cutscenes, but mostly through either someone radioning you and telling something has happened, or through a dialog box before or after a mission.

Honestly an absolute legend all around, theres always things you’ve missed or hidden spots you havent experienced after you’ve played the game leagues of times, and the lore only goes deeper from here. One of my favorite games of all time, and the beginning to a legendary series.
