Space Empires III

Space Empires III

Despite the glitches and bugs, this game has that beautiful blend of design your own units and turn based strategy that I do love so much, but be ready for the eternity each match takes (on large with multiple players).

Absolute nostalgia. Wonderful to see this again, haven’t seen it since the mid 90s. A few gripes about UI and UX and the tutorial but those are minor. 7/10

OF MICE AND SAND -REVISED-

OF MICE AND SAND -REVISED-

The gameplay of MICE AND SAND is literally just micro-management, ala SimCity style. There’s very little of consequence that occurs outside of your sand crawler, and 44.5 of my 45 hours spent beating the game was in making sure I was producing the proper products through a spaghetti-labyrinth of factory dependencies without ever completely running out of resources, or completely running out of space. (In fact, more than half of the time, my sand crawler was parked while my factories did their thing.)

Of Mice and Sand is a nice little game about travelling the desert for ‘el dorado’

Problem that many people will find is a lot of repetition. Going between towns to do quests, grind resources, and managing many things your crew will need in order to survive.

Believe me, I finished the game. I spent a lot of time going between towns, building up my ship, fighting desert creatures, and overall making sure I am ready for the next leg of the journey. My ship was taken down a few times, sure, but I learned from what happened and did improvements until I was able to defeat the next gatekeeper(so to speak).

I’ve never played games of this genre. This is amazing! The levels are slowly becoming more difficult, which does not allow me to relax and even more draws me into the game. This game deserves more

I like old-style games, so I decided to buy this game, as it reminded me of the games of my childhood, well, let’s start with the pros of the game:

  • You need to think through your steps to be successful in this game

  • Intuitive interface, looks good

Disadvantages of the game:

I don’t really like the graphics, I think it looks too old, I’ve seen a few old-style games, but they used the new game development technologies, they looked very good and enticing

A great game with a great community. If you get bored of the main game, you can go into both mapping and modding. Both can be just as enjoyable as normal gameplay, and people on the official Discord will help if you have any problems. Absolutely recommended.

Well, I didn’t expect to see this on Steam! Classic “beer and pretzels” 4X game, rather simplistic compared to later Space Empires games but still fun to play. The UI is a bit clunky, particularly when it comes to issuing ship commands and building things, and pathfinding through warp points is nonexistent. I wish you could play online against other humans, rather than just locally or vs. the AI; the AI doesn’t seem to be too good at the game. But it’s a fun game to play if you just want to relax and conquer the universe.

Galaxy Pass Station

Galaxy Pass Station

Galaxy Pass Station is a space station simulator where aliens from all over the galaxy arrive. You will be the first caretaker of this station, will work for the largest corporation in the solar system - Spherical Corp. All guests must go through your control! You need to carefully check all galactic papers, carry out various tests and not let dubious aliens into the station. After all the checks, the guests go to the station, to the galactic duty-free zone, where they can eat, sleep, buy something from Earth, apply for a visa, and have some fun. Your task is to build the best station in the galaxy to satisfy all the aliens and the corporation.

Galaxy Pass Stations is a game in the vein of indie titles, such as “Papers, Please” and “Beholder”, to name a few.

  • Explore more than 15 alien species.

  • Check alien photos, DNA, and others in galactic papers…

  • Build and manage your space station near Earth.

  • Meet unique characters from all over the galaxy.

  • Survive at the station. Monsters are nearby.

  • Unlock multiple story endings.

Game Features

  • Colorful 2D pixel graphics.

  • Procedural Character Generation - every visitor to the station is unique.

  • Endless and Story game modes.

  • Base Building System - your station will be your base, office, and home.

SunAge: Battle for Elysium

SunAge: Battle for Elysium

I saw SunAge the first time way back before it was even released and I already knew I would like it. However this game isn’t without its flaws.

Pros

–—

  • Beautiful old skool grafics, a throw back to the 90’s RTS genre. Most critic reviews I’ve read all say that the GFX are outdated, even ancient. Anyone that says this is, I’m sorry, but they’re idiots. RTS just don’t really translate that well in 3D. Believe me, it used to be my favorite genre yet there are only about 3 maybe 4 3D RTS games that I like. I don’t need a rotating camera to enjoy a game.

First off, I just want to give a big shoutout to the people involved in the making of this game, it’s quite amazing for such a small team, the graphics, the sound, the units, it all feels professional and like a high quality indie game. However there are a lot of small bugs.

A bit of a detailed explanation of the specificities of the game compared to other RTS I know:

+All units have 2 modes that can be switched without cooldowns (for example heavy infantry can switch between rocket launchers or mortars) it can also switch between anti-air to support heals and so on, however the alternate mode must be researched first in the research lab

Protolife

Protolife

As a fan of both strategy games and tower defense, I can safely say that I had fun playing Protolife and would recommend the game to anyone who is a fan of an unorthodox twist to tower defense and, more specifically, turtling or turret-creeping in strategy games.

Note: I have completed the main campaign and have dived a bit into the postgame content. Anything I discover in the New Game+ and/or the Experiments (randomly generated scenarios) will be added at later times.

Gameplay: 8/10

Real player with 21.6 hrs in game

Probably the best way to know if you’ll like Protolife is if you liked Creeper World or Infested Planet… and you don’t mind a control scheme which has no mouse input.

To be clear, there is nothing “wrong” with the control scheme, and I have played it on a keyboard as well as with an Xbox controller, but it’s a uncommon to find a game these days with no mouse input so that seems to be a deal breaker for some people. If you’re using a controller, I strongly recommend the D-pad rather than the joystick, because the game works on a grid and the digital input of the D-pad matches that much better than an analog stick.
