FrankenStorm TD: Prologue

FrankenStorm TD: Prologue

A solid tower defense, reminiscent of the Warcraft III tower defenses it was inspired by. Its strength is in its simplicity. A lot of tower defense games try to go wide, giving players many options of towers while restricting their ability to influence placement and mob flow. This game does the opposite by restricting you to one tower type. It lowers your immediate ability to change your damage types/styles, but allows for larges mazes and clever placement.

As you continue playing, you can collect power-ups that will allow you to shape your game-play even more. The towers are all still the same tower, but you can add attack speed, damage, give the ability to stun, or insta-kill low-health enemies, etc. to them. Every power-up comes with a penalty, that makes the strategy involved more complex, modifying all of your enemy’s abilities at the same time as it modifies all your towers.

I have to think the devs like Path of Exile because the way you “gear up” has so much in common. Everything you find has an upside and a downside. There are uniques that are build enabling, but total garbage if you don’t build for them. There is a specific range for the rolls that a unique can get. There is stuff that has great synergy together (For example, if you stack the increased chance that the enemy procs some special ability, then there is no big downside to grabbing more of that. But the downside that you are completely prevented from getting even 2% of something like enemy dodge chance because 2% dodge X 200% increased chance chance equals insta-death. They also both have the concept of “increased” and “more”. (i.e. you can get 5% increased damage or 5 more damage.) They also both have tooltips that show your basic damage oputput without revealing any useful information without you doing math. (i.e the tooltip will show your crit chance and it will show your percentage increase that random events proc. But it will not show your ACTUAL crit chance after it has been modified by your chance chance.)

The Last Spell

The Last Spell

A fun and addictive game that’s essentially tower defense with elements of party management/rpg, town/resource/strategic management, and enjoyable “rogue-like-lite-whatever” persistent unlocks over time. Maybe even a dash of almost RTS with how worker management flows.

The gameplay loop itself is simple - defend your little “city” against hordes of monsters by night, build/develop base/heroes/etc by day - repeat til you fail or win - earn unlocks to get stronger for the next time - and repeat.

It has been a long while since I enjoyed game this much straight on launch, last game I sank this many hours in on launch was Trails of Cold Steel IV on PS4 launch even if it is ‘just’ early access game right now there already is plenty to play and explore, in the roughly 10 hours so far I already unlocked good chunk of upgrades… And I barely made dent in the actual % of them

There are some weapons that are very obviously superior to others, at least that’s how I feel personally so far, like Spears and Daggers are ridiculously OP if you can grab bit of mana regen or in case of dagger/hand crossbows getting few multihits in, poison dagger toss is strong enough to hold a side on their own for first 4-5 nights which I think is silly (But I don’t say this cause I think it should be nerfed mind you, I actually think it is good thing that there are simply weapons that are better, while other have a nieche they can fulfill, like I personally don’t think Hammer is too good in general, but the aoe stun is good for stalling, it won’t work long term though unless you heavily spec into that kind of playstyle with your hero)

“Build me a lair… And it better be devious!”

The evil mastermind is in need of a lair suited to his devious demeanor. Can you come up with a fiendishly creative design to bury your competition?

Each room type comes with a unique effect that is boosted when the room is placed next to supporting room types. Try to come up with an optimal design that unleashes the full potential of your rooms!

Your opponent shouldn’t have started building so close to you… Teach them a lesson by planting a room full of dynamite next to their control room! Or maybe you should shoot at them with a cannon instead?

“No, no, NO! This will not do. We need to have a puppy jail! What do you mean “why”? Because we’re EVIL, duh!"

The evil mastermind knows exactly what he wants… And usually, it’s the complete opposite of what he wanted 5 minutes ago. If the boss wants his bedroom next to a snake pit, it’s best to follow along.

Gladiator Guild Manager

Gladiator Guild Manager

Gladiator Guild Manager is the best auto battler i have played. I have had lots of fun coming up with various strategies and team comp’s. Unlike other team manager games, it has a strong RPG element that isn’t there just for fluff. For instance, I have 2 Mana Assassins (Rogues), one that does a very high backstab, where the other one is a brawler with stealth. The various quirks your gladiator can have also spice up the selection, as well as the ability to equip various items that boost stats, or add effects.

Very fun auto-battler! Very addictive and has a good amount of variety. The randomness option with the building/units at the start and the option for permadeath makes the replay value high! I am look forward for more randomness with the quests and more buildings/units and an even greater replay value with the full release.

Give the game a chance! I found it, watched a youtube video of it, bought it, and played 8 hours of it all in the same day. It is very stable for an early access game with a lot of room for growth :)

If you like Windybeard’s new pirate game, then you will like this. If you like the decade-old independent flash game “Glean” then you will like this. If you enjoy mindless grinding with no real end in sight, you will enjoy this. I enjoy all three, so I had fun with this. Took me about 60 or 70 hours to reach Division 1.

Here are some tips:

  1. There are no monsters in the first quadrant and the game isn’t timed, so spend as much time as you like drilling the first few planets. If you drill, for example, 100 blocks of something and you need 100 blocks for your collection, then you will earn money just for that, even if you don’t get to the core or complete your research. So you can drill the same planet like 100 times until you’ve got all the collections you can get from it. [ I enjoy doing stuff like that. If you think that sounds like a grind, this simply isn’t the game for you and we’ll leave it at that! :) ]

Windybeard, Windybeard ….hmmmm ah yes! The Developer of the cool SWEEZY GUNNER. I remember.

SWEEZY GUNNER was a cool Retro Shooter with many nice features and a special Graphic Style, a little bit like a comic.

Normally i do not buy Games blind, but the First Game from Windybeard gave me a good feeling so i bought it today and installed it. Starting the Game it was like coming home to SWEEZY GUNNER, because it has the same graphic Style and if i’m not wrong has Characters from Sweezy Gunner. The shopowner in the game, can it be?

Micro Annihilation

Micro Annihilation

Game was just released, but there is already enough content that you can play for few hours. It is interesting mix of XCOM / C&C.

While playing the game you find out how it would be if you would be the size of the ant and you have to survive the onslaught of insects. Sometimes it feels like zombie apocalypse but that there are ants instead of zombies.

You can contact developer on Discord and he will listen to your opinions and try to integrate them in his game. There is normally just few days between updates, so update interval is really short.

This game takes me back to nostalgic days of Starcraft and Total Annihilation. Only now my units don’t always need me to babysit them to defend themselves. The conceit is fun, tiny people versus mutant bugs, and the gameplay is rather intuitive. I’m really enjoying myself :)

Zodiac Legion

Zodiac Legion

Zodiac Legion is a turn-based tactical RPG featuring lethal combat, squad management and strategic elements. Lead your heroes through daring raids and forgotten ruins, defend your land in a time of conquest and betrayal, and master the secrets of volatile ancient magic to restore a realm beset by the armies of undying fiendish sorcerers.

features

  • Lead your knights in turn-based tactical battles.

  • Explore ancient ruins and places of power, thwart the plans of enemy lieutenants, forge alliances, and restore the Zodiac Order.

  • Smash your way through fully destructible dungeons.

  • Expand and strengthen your stronghold, research new spells and craft powerful artifacts.

  • Reshape the terrain to your advantage.

  • Develop your warriors into mighty champions.

As the Grandmaster of the Zodiac Order, it will be your duty to restore this knightly brotherhood and rally its champions under the banners of the thirteen Zodiac signs. You will manage your domain, take important diplomatic decisions and train your warriors in the arcane arts. Enemy armies will invade your borders, forcing you to dispatch your knights on missions resolved through turn-based, tactical battles. Their superhuman powers will tip the scales in the face of overwhelming odds, but beware: many will not survive the ordeal. Yet exploring the secrets of necromancy may reveal that a Zodiac Knight’s duty need not end in death.

The work on Zodiac Legion began because we shared the vision of a game that would combine the tactical combat and strategic campaign of X-COM, with the fantasy aspects and dungeon crawling typical of most roleplaying games.

We decided to use the theme of the Zodiac because of its association with classical mythology, and due to its ties with distinct character archetypes, which served as the foundation of our class system. There are hundreds of distinct features and qualities attributed to the signs by astrology, which lends itself to a robust and interconnected system that has an impact on all the aspects of Zodiac Legion’s gameplay and storytelling.
