A short-term sci-fi Colony Building Resource Management puzzle game
It’s a causal game where you build machines on a grid-based 2.5D map, to harvest resources, and refine them into things like food, water or fuel. Which you’ll need to birth colonists or launch rockets. Meanwhile, you’ll have to manage pollution levels or even fight alien infestations, threatening to block off your precious building slots!

A colony management simulation where you are preparing planets for human colonization. Build the necessary structures and gather resource. Then manage the planet and continue to progress, eventually gaining colonist and venturing on. A causal game that takes planning, and has a lot of indie charm.

SunAge: Battle for Elysium
I saw SunAge the first time way back before it was even released and I already knew I would like it. However this game isn’t without its flaws.
Pros
–—
- Beautiful old skool grafics, a throw back to the 90’s RTS genre. Most critic reviews I’ve read all say that the GFX are outdated, even ancient. Anyone that says this is, I’m sorry, but they’re idiots. RTS just don’t really translate that well in 3D. Believe me, it used to be my favorite genre yet there are only about 3 maybe 4 3D RTS games that I like. I don’t need a rotating camera to enjoy a game.

First off, I just want to give a big shoutout to the people involved in the making of this game, it’s quite amazing for such a small team, the graphics, the sound, the units, it all feels professional and like a high quality indie game. However there are a lot of small bugs.
A bit of a detailed explanation of the specificities of the game compared to other RTS I know:
+All units have 2 modes that can be switched without cooldowns (for example heavy infantry can switch between rocket launchers or mortars) it can also switch between anti-air to support heals and so on, however the alternate mode must be researched first in the research lab

Diorama Tower Defense: Tiny Kingdom (Prologue)
Ehm … no. While the intro is good and a lot of work has been going into it for how small this game is, it lacks in gameplay, entertainment and generally the right feeling. Didn’t enjoy it.
I even went to do something and forgot about it, then went to sleep… so it kept acculumating hours all night without playing at all :D
Can’t recommend a game who makes me forget about it so successfully ;)

Majesty Gold HD
Majesty is a beloved childhood game of mine. Which I originally received as the pack in during Kellog’s Nutrigrain’s video game pack around 2001 or 2002.
The game is a hybird RTS / Godsim originally released in 2000 with it’s main innovation being the independent charather AI.
The player can directly control the construction of buildings, as normal for the genre, but all of the “heros” move on their own and cannot be given orders. Instead, they all have behaviour patterns based on their class, which lets them simulate a personality. Warriors like to hunt monsters, Rangers like to explore, and Monks like to act as hotel inspectors, wandering from inn to inn.

Majesty Gold HD is an unusual game with an unusual history.
While it’s billed as a Fantasy Kingdom Sim, Majesty has most of the trappings of a conventional RTS. However, it does stray from RTS convention in one major aspect and that was enough for its developer, Cyberlore Studios, to have considerable difficulty finding a publisher even during the great RTS glut of the 90s.
To fully appreciate Majesty, you need to talk about RTSes in general. Now, the term Real-Time Strategy itself is a little generic – Crusader Kings II, for instance, is real-time and it is a strategy game but no one would confuse it for an RTS. When gamers use the term, they’re referring to very specific types of games – games like Blizzard’s Warcraft II and Westwood’s Command & Conquer, the two titles released in 1995 that inspired the RTS glut.

Shadows of the Sengoku
The year is 1467. The Sengoku period has just begun. Every Daimyo will be out for blood, trying to bring glory to their clan and be unifier of Japan. More than might and riches, cunning is required.
Enter the Shadows.
Shadows of Sengoku is a Grand Strategy game that mixes Turn-Based Tactical Combat into the formula, and puts the player in control of the Shadows; a group of elite units that serve one of the Daimyos of Japan, executing missions and expanding the clan’s influence in order to achieve its ultimate destiny: The Unification of Japan.
Conquer Your Way!
Shadows of Sengoku features over 30 possible clans that the player can choose to play as. Help the Ashikaga retain the Shogunate; Aid the Hosokawa in keeping their regional superiority; spearhead the warlike Uesugi’s offensive in the Tokaido; grow the Ainu into a formidable opponent; or fight for supremacy in the Kyushu as the Shimazu.
Each clan will be ruled by a Daimyo with their own goals and aspirations for the clan. Some may seek greatness through war, others may desire for peaceful relations and diplomacy, yet others may want to isolate themselves from the rest in a road to self-reliance. But Daimyos don’t live forever; a change in the leadership of a clan may severely alter the course of a game!
Train Your Squad!
Units can be recruited and will have their starting abilities based off of the province they hail from, with each of the game’s 80 provinces bringing different bonuses. But they all start at low level, and will need to gain experience be it in the form of open combat or using the Shadows' training grounds. Being efficient in battle will not only allow your units to improve quicker; they’ll also gain combat ranks which will unlock a whole new host of gameplay options.
There are no classes in Shadows of the Sengoku; instead a system of proficiencies will categorize your unit based on its weaknesses and strengths. An innovative skill system allows you to train your units in whatever way you desire, specializing them into one or more combat roles as you see fit. But use caution; losing a very important unit in combat can have drastic consequences to morale!
High-Stakes Tactical Combat!
Going back to the roots of tactical turn-based combat, Shadows of the Sengoku gives the players complete control over their units action. Based on a time unit system, players can more accurately coordinate and develop their strategy during combat. Each time unit will count, with units being granted a better chance of defending themselves if they have time units to spare after taking their turns.
Combat is also extremely deadly; badly positioning your soldiers can lead to a quick and untimely death at the hands of the enemy! A blend of melee, ranged, and explosive attacks will be useful in turning the tide of a battle. 8 different enemy archetypes with multiple variations within will expand the possibilities in battle and make each encounter formidable. Expect the unexpected!
Build And Research!
Improve your weapons, armor and items via a dynamic research system that does away with traditional tech trees in favor of a more procedural approach; each piece will have their own tech progression, which can first be unlocked by researching an existing item. This way players can focus research on items that more favor their playstyle; become an assassin with ranged weapons, focus on impenetrable armor and so on. But beware; the enemy is smart and paying attention to what you do, and they may just focus on tactics to counter you!
Players will also be able to build up the infrastructure for their headquarters, constructing new buildings and improving old ones as they see fit in order to gain bonuses and gain combat advantages. But these expansions must be planned carefully; there is always the possibility of an enemy attack on your hq, which could be very difficult to defend if you were haphazard with your planning!
And More!
Shadows of the Sengoku also features:
-
Comprehensive mission tree system to direct the actions of your clan
-
Wide variety of procedurally generated missions to keep the gameplay always fresh
-
Intricate diplomatic system that allows you to form alliances, start wars, and betray your friends
-
Unique Daimyo personality that will shape the way each individual clan acts
-
An AI learning system that learns and adjusts to your tactics on the battlefield
-
Annex provinces via diplomacy or conquest
-
Non-combat missions that may drastically affect the world and provide you with benefits
-
The ever-present threat of retaliation by the Emperor should your clan grow too powerful, be it politically or militarily
War Wind II: Human Onslaught
As a huge fan of War Wind 1, this is honestly quite disappointing. Controls are very confusing, much more so than in the 1st War Wind. Technology trees for each of the races is complicated and hard to get used to. The alien races now speak mostly English which doesn’t feel as authentic. The mechanics of hiring new units is a huge downgrade from the 1st War Wind in the sense that you can only hire from external villages that do not respawn new villagers. These villagers can be accidentally attacked. Overall, hugely disappointing and the only saving grace was the low cost to purchase this game. Perhaps players without prior experience playing the 1st War Wind would find this ok but for those like me who are expecting a game that improves on the 1st one would be terribly disappointed.

Eons of War
In this rogue-lite survival strategy you get to manage a space corporation while progressing through missions in a dynamic galaxy. Every mission takes place in a unique planetary system where you can build space stations, mine resources, terraform planets, hire spaceships, and battle robotic life forms from the Rift.
SURVIVE IN SPACE
When the first signs of the Rift emerged decades ago, many nearby stars started to produce anomalous radiation spikes that destroyed space stations and sterilized planets, killing millions. Thanks to scientists and engineers, giant shields powered by thorium were deployed to protect humanoids of all races.
Shield management requires finding the right balance between stockpiling enough thorium and doing everything else that your corporation requires. Terraform, mine, research, battle…but never forget about the constant specter of radiation that can wipe you out in minutes.
DYNAMIC WORLD
Every game level is a dynamic procedurally-generated planetary system in a vast network of stars connected by hyperlanes.
Build space stations to expand your fleet among orbiting planets. Hire autonomous spaceships to do your bidding. While performing assigned jobs, they will periodically upgrade and repair equipment with the money they earn from you. Don’t run out of space credits to pay their contracts or they might quit!
Rift wormholes that teleport enemy ships from the distant galaxy can pop up near you randomly. Be prepared to defend the planets and space stations under your patronage.
While you are not managing shields or defending planets, you must keep the economy afloat. Mine resources, terraform planets, and send emissaries to increase your influence over planetary governments.
EXPLORE THE STORY
Progress through levels while exploring the story in side quests. Some quests will reward you with artifacts that can be deployed on planets and space stations. Those artifacts provide you with powerful bonuses on the way to victory. Keep some artifacts with you on various missions, giving you a much needed edge for increasingly difficult challenges.

-

GhostControl Inc.
This review need updating. The game has been updated and polished even further. Will update when I get around to playing it again.
In short:
Ghostcontrol Inc. is a solid and fun turn-based strategy ghost hunting simulator with very good humor.
Ghostcontrol Inc. style and feel is that of a casual and fun game (but not easy :) ). The graphical style, sounds and music are similar to Theme Hospital. Gameplay is sufficiently deep for a turn based game and incorporates a simple 2 AP system which makes the game flow nicely. Menus and action are understandable and there is enough amount of micromanaging to have variety. The story of the game is humorous and well written.
– Real player with 40.5 hrs in game
Ghost Control Inc seemingly has everything going for it. It’s a game where you essentially play team manager for Ghosbusters! And it has a nearly-perfect blend of tactics and management gameplay! What could possibly be more fun?
Unfortunately, the game is marred by several issues.
Firstly, the art direction is uneven at best. Most of the ghosts have very uninspired designs that won’t stick in your mind like those of other franchises involving catching ghosts. Several of the ghosts are just recolors or slight redesigns of the lower level ghosts you fight early in the game, so they’re both boring to look at and repetitive. This also makes it slightly harder to tell what you’re figthing at times.
