This game has potential. It would work well in a school environment. A Multiplayer option would be ideal to keep younger students engaged. A “feature” of the game is there is no losing state, even when out of resources and physically unable to do anything. This fits the current philosophy of teaching, where no student can be wrong or upset.

Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox

Intelligent Design: An Evolutionary Sandbox

Science!

This is a game for people who enjoy patiently solving puzzles. Completing all the game objectives is not the end game, it’s where the game starts. Once you know how everything works, you spend time trying to develop genetic recipes for plants, herbivores, and carnivores. You can conduct experiments inside the contained forcefields. You tweak the balance until it stays stable. You observe how random mutations either help or hurt the design.

I spent an entire day developing my “stepping stone” plant recipe. Over the next few hours the plants mutated into taller “fat candles” that were better able to stand up to the stresses of wild fires and getting munched on by herbivores. This weekend I’ve assigned it as a science project for my homeschooled kid. I haven’t figured out how to get the herbivores and carnivores into a stable balance yet. I have lots of experiements left to run!

this game is interesting enough in its mechanics, to me, to give it a thumbs up, although seeing the general opinion and commentary on this game i see there are just as many reasons to give it a thumbs down, a neutral vote would be amazing here.

all in all this is a fairly simple looking game, but not very optimized for what it needs to do, especially when populations start going into the thousands the game grinds down to a snailspace or worse, this is because of the many calculations going on while the game is not multithreaded, leaving it incapable of processing its own data at a fast enough rate, besides that, and if you keep populations low enough (amount depends on your pc’s cpu power) you will have a fun time for a while.

House Builder: First Job

House Builder: First Job

I really think this game has great potential! I loved playing the first two jobs and can’t wait to see what else there will be.

The building crafting mechanics unfortunately got rather tiring over time, as I constantly yeeted the raw tiles for the roofing when I tried to get them into the oven, so that I needed to make new ones. Also, the distances are hard to guess when using the hand tool/drag-and-drop, which for me made it difficult at times to get the clay into the form.

I would like to be able to collect the raw materials as well (not just the finished ones) and clicking them into their crafting destination, instead of having to drag-and-drop them, risking to lose them whenever I move aound too quickly.

House Builder: First Job

…is a crafting simulator. Build a shelter in the northern ice lands or the African jungle, using basic material from your surroundings.

⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙

Two locations are made available for you to choose from, although the game implied that you start with Greenland and then move to Middle-Africa. Both offer a very different building style: the igloo requires that you to keep a warm fire burning while gathering ice blocks cut from the ground, and a mudbrick house made requiring rocks for the foundation, bamboo sticks and vines for the structure and clay and water for the walls and roof. Both locations have a dangerous beast lurking around (a bear in the first, a lion in the second) from which you need to keep your distance of.

Learning Factory

Learning Factory

As a big fan of simulators (especially building-type simulators), I was excited to check this game out from the second it popped up on my gaming feed. It’s still in Early Access so it’s not quite complete, but you’ll still be able to put in quite some time to getting your factory up to tip top shape.

PROS:

  • Nothing really costs too much money, so as long as you keep your researchers busy learning new things, you can make a large factory/shops with ease.

  • Once you craft something, it’s yours forever. If you place it down, you can just pick it right back up.

Real player with 20.9 hrs in game

Highly recommended, I bought it the moment the lovely Discord staff said it was up on Steam for sale.

Keeping in mind, this is an Early Access game, so some features will be inevitably changed, but so far, the game is so reminiscent of Factorio. Within the two hours of me playing this game, it had me do some quests that get you a little taste of the game.

Fair Warning, this game is buggy. It just got released a few hours ago. Have some faith you people.

I personally have beef with that delayed crafting bug.

Imagine Earth

Imagine Earth

I purchased this game some time ago and have waited a long time to review it, due in part to some issues I had with it, but also because I wanted to be fair, considering that it is an early access game. So with that being said, my review:

So I was flipping through the steam games and I came across this game called “Imagine Earth” in the simulation section, I saw that it had a demo and decided to try it. At the time the demo only had a missions available, a simple interface and not a lot in the way of content… but I was hooked.

Real player with 41.7 hrs in game

I really like Imagine Earth. It’s a fun, lightweight city building game, where you have to keep track of not only economical, but ecological development as well.

The game has come a long way since its appearance on Steam. I get, that a lot of people compare this to games like Anno, don’t! Anno was made by a company worth billions, this game was made by a small indy team.

And especially in times of heat waves and forest fires in North America and South Europe, never seen floods in Europe and Asia it is good to see, that some people still try to educate about global warning.

House Builder

House Builder

In it’s current state I would not recommend this game, maybe once it is further along in development then yes. I first played the demo & enjoyed it which is why I bought the game. Your progress doesn’t transfer over so I had to start over. That part didn’t bother me, However after finally making it back pass the initial two level I bought the third house & began initially trying to play. The animals in the background were glitching across the screen & floating in the air. After ignoring that I still tried to start building my house, however once I opened up the shop menu nothing I clicked one seemed to work. Since I couldn’t get back to the game I force closed the game & started it back up only to find out that I had to repurchase my new house again. Which would have meant either selling or rebuilding my first two houses or taking a loan from the back. So I took the loan & re-bought the house but then I couldn’t even get back into the house. Every “Yes” option on wanting to continue kept being grayed out & I could only keep choosing “No”. I’m already pass the two hour trial period of buying it so I have to keep it. So I’ll likely try it again in a couple of weeks/months once some updates have been done.

I recommend it but it’s kinda buggy..

I’ve had a lot of strange things happen. I’ve gotten stuck. Indicator to pick up things disappeared. I had to restart the Japanese house 3 times. It doesn’t always place the boards in the right places. You can’t reset yourself but you can sell or restart a level. There aren’t a whole lot of houses to do yet but it is $15.00 Full price US dollars and I got it on sale probably, knowing me.

I did enjoy it though and there’s a bit of replayability to it. (prolly not a word but I like it)
