This is in my opinion now the pinnacle of top down racing. It is obviously more beautiful that Skidmarks and Supercars. It’s controls are more interesting that Micromachines. The races feel more interesting that games like Mantis Burn and Motorstorm RC. It’s taken from some of the best qualities of Generally.

It’s strange as the game feels like it’s barely finished (No online groups. Can’t save during Grand Prix which everyone complains about. Only one car per category) but I’d still much rather play this than any of the other games I’ve listed. The controls feel fantastic. The visuals are cute and fit the vibe wonderfully. The audio is enjoyable even though the menu music can get a little on the nerves after very long loops.

UPDATE for 2019: - So I hadn’t played this game in a while and I come back to find its even more polished. the AI is really good now and the game feels tighter and the controls more responsive. I really love this game and the Dev’s are clearly listening to the feedback and making a game for driving fans. Well done, keep up the good work.

UPDATED REVIEW - following more extensive gameplay.

So i really like this game, it gets a lot better as you progress and get a better car, upgrade it and some of the later tracks are much better than the earlier ones. This is a great top down simulator at a very reasonable price. If you want a top down racer that is more serious than the average arcade game then I’ve NEVER seen a better game than this one. Devs are active and care about customers. This is a solid BUY for me, I did and certainly don’t regret it.

Even arcade-y-er than I expected.

Enjoyable, rage inducing but just gotta memorize the track and remember to start turning before you approach or sometimes even see the turn.

Music is enjoyable but track list is so short it quickly loops, probably turning music off soon.

Worth the price and worth my time!

GRITS Racing

GRITS Racing

Something goofy and a bit different in the world of top-down racers.

GRITS takes the classic 2D top-down racing concept and mixes it up a fair bit with all the tasty features elaborated on in the extended game description:

Physics

Individually simulated wheels mean vehicle damage gets ‘functionally interesting’

Drivers

Run to your car… or to the team truck for a new one if you broke the original - your tesla shield makes pedestrian collisions far more painful for the offending vehicle!

Very enjoyable, chaotic party game, excellent with a group of friends.

GRITS Racing is a top-down racing party game with physics that are more realistic than anybody ever asked for. I can attest that the cars handle like real cars. It’s made as a couch game to play with your friends, but AI’s were recently added so you can play singleplayer too. From what I hear, it’s got tire friction, center of gravity, steering mechanisms etc. modeled after real cars. And the wheels are individually modeled, so they can come off when you wreck. Wrecked cars are persistent, and you have to run to the truck to get a new car if you abandon yours. Your racer is protected by a Tesla Shield, so if you need to abandon your car to get a new one, other cars on the track will bounce off your shield! The details are what makes it so fun, such as being able to knock over a pile of tires. The skid marks look great, too.

Got to beta test it, and it’s a major improvement over the first game. What really sets this game apart is it’s sandbox aspect: you can make any racing series and simulate it.

Building on the foundations of its predecessor (which I played a lot), it is a great top down arcade sim, this time with added features like customizing your liveries, time trials and more new stuff. Would recommend to anyone who likes 2D/arcade racing games/sims and games to test your reflexes with. Very keyboard user friendly, which is a rarity nowadays, and also able to run smoothly on basically any kind of hardware.

Ok, so I played it quite a bit. I tried to find something positive in every update… I like how the devs are working on the metagame (career and stuff). And that’s it. The rest is garbage.

Basic mechanic is utterly broken, and by that I mean tyre model. Different compounds does not mean that car should have like a speed-cap applied. Tyres don’t have anything to do with car speed, but with grip. Until devs understand and fix this, this game will stay broken.

Another thing… Tyres are pretty much useless at 50%… Do you (devs) even test your game? On top of that, there is this car sliding getting worse and worse as the tyres degrade. What’s most annoying is it feels like the sliding has very little to do with car speed… Again - it feels like it, I’m not sure why. At tyres at 50% car is uncontrollable.

Simple but fun top down arcade style racer.

The view shows you enough of the track ahead of you to get a decent line without getting familiar with the tracks first. Of course knowing the tracks still helps.

Lots of options to keep things interesting:

  • Several tracks to choose from

  • Different car types with different handling

  • Set the race length and number of opponents

  • Difficulty slider to gradually increase difficulty

  • Optional tire wear and pit stops with a choice of hard or soft tires on each stop

Decent game!

It’s a good game when you’re bored however it’s kinda buggy and the road doesn’t appear until you’re near it.

Crossy Bridge is a Unity Asset flip, what Valve calls a “fake game”. The “developer”, INFINITE BRIDGE, took the Crossy Bridge Game Template Unity Store tutorial/demo/game asset pack from the real developers, SgLib Games, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They’re attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else’s work.

I have to say, I was surprised by just how good this game is. In the blurry screenshots on the store page, it comes across as archaic to the point of being down right unplayable, but it is, in fact, a full formed Grand Theft Auto game. Each style of car drives differently and sports the fake radio stations this series has become known for. Those stations are a little too limited for the amount of time you’ll be driving around; it’s like one song plus a commercial per car theme, but as long as you’re sure to switch between styles frequently they won’t cross into obnoxious territory.

I never got to play the first game in the series back int he day, even though I did manage to get my hands on the PlayStation version. I guess since my first ever introduction to the GTA series was already in the 3D universe I got a bit put off by the less story-driven 2D games. Now I see this was quite a fun experience. But still, I would hardly call it my favorite, and can only muster up enough to say it’s just a bit underwhelming.

First of all, it’s the very reason this was pulled out of Steam: you can only run the game once. For some reason, the port changes a file type after you play a level that makes it so when it tries to read it again to start a new level the games simply crashes. You literally had to make a backup of the original file and manually replace it every time you wanted to play or look for a 3rd party program that fixes the file before launching the game and, if you wanted steam to properly read your game time like me, make a custom exe that would replace the original one so steam knew when you launched the game. It’s a similar experience to playing Fallout Fixit, but there the vanilla game works even if you don’t want the extra fixes, here it’s mandatory if you want to play and just that is enough to get a negative review as an experience since it would just be better to get the original PC version or even the PlayStation one.
