Need for Speed: Shift

Need for Speed: Shift

Recommended for nostalgia (I 100%ed it on 360) and those intense racing moments that do occur, such as a tier 4/works converted race on a tight track, nose to tail at 170mph and you pull off a classy overtake when you know one tiny error could cost you the race! The tension can feel real. Or, coming round a long bend to suddenly find a car on it’s roof, parked on your raceline!

Pros: Decent graphics, excellent feel, nice progression sytem, variety of events (races/drift/time & lap eliminators/hot laps), different cars feel different (see cons), those ‘racing moments’, ideal for someone who’s just bought a wheel or someone coming from an arcade racing background who wants to move towards sim racing (also see cons).

A note in advance: I love NFS Shift, I think it’s a fab example of a “sim-cade” racing game. However, Shift 2 Unleashed has quite literally all of the content from the first game and improves upon most of it in some way or another, -especially- the career mode. I simply can’t recommend buying the original unless you’re a collector or the type of gamer who enjoys playing through each game of an additive series to experience its evolution. If you’ve got a problem with me giving it a Negative, bitch at Steam for including a Neutral/Informational option for Curators but neglecting to add one for the actual reviews.

Offroad Mania

Offroad Mania

I can’t remember how I came across this game, but I am glad I did.

The Gameplay is straight forward, you spawn on a platform that is suspended in air and have to reach the finish line without falling off. The game also offers collectible trophies as an additional challenge.

You can choose if you want to play “easy” mode or “hard” mode, the latter requires you to collect all 3 trophies per level before continuing. The 60 individual levels provide a increasing difficulty level, the only aspect I didn’t like about the choice of level design is the inversion of all levels starting from level 61. You are playing through the game again but with reversed levels.

Addicting indie game where you have to traverse various obstacles to drive across the finish line

Pros

→ plenty of levels to choose from (although half of the maps in classic mode are the same maps but in reverse)

→ decent vehicle selection

→ fun physics

→ well-balanced achievements

→ regular updates

→ different modes

→ low price

→ front and rear vehicle modification

→ great sounds

→ trading card drops

Neither

→ gameplay gets slightly tedious after a while

→ limited customization (only colors can be changed both on the truck and player)

Lets talk about this game.

This game was the 2nd ever f1 game I played from codemasters after 2010, and obviously it was back in my ps3 days with not having internet :) now obviously i got on pc, and personally don’t feel much difference but anyway lets get into it

Positives:

Tyre wear: This game is very easy on tires, its so easy, because on this game the tires are always scaled to 100% distance, thats why for example in a monza 25% race in the past what I could do is pit on lap 1 for options and then do the whole race on it,. other games like 11, 13, for example have tyre scaling so in a 25% race i cant ignore my pit window easily :P or do that in monza.

Project Torque - Free 2 Play MMO Racing Game

The game is old, the customization is limited, there’s no freeroam or licensed cars, and the progression is barebones. If any of this bothers you, look elsewhere.

Alright, now that I’ve scared off the typical modern racing game player, I can talk about the game more freely. Congratulations, you’re probably not basic. More importantly, you’re most likely looking for a fun racing game on the cheap and this is a very good one, albeit with some caveats.

So, what is Project Torque?

There are several reasons why I will still play this after all of these years…..

Multiple disciplines:

  • Street racing. (Any vehicle except for the oval cars are welcome. No opinion one way or the other on this BUT I’d drive it like I stole it and had to outrun them if they were allowed here)

  • Track day type circuit racing (if only they allowed the oval racing cars here as well, circuits are part of NASCAR dagummit)

  • Oval racing (with oval track only cars, we need a track day situation here so any vehicle, regardless of it’s nonsense level can drive fast on a banked oval and like it.)

Victory: The Age of Racing

Victory: The Age of Racing

Ive seen alot of reviews stating that this game is “dead” because there is simply no one online to race against. While this is true MOST of the time, (just recently raced against 6 other racers in a major event) those leaning on this one flaw in the game are missing out on alot of what Victory has to offer.

Victory: The Age of Racing is simply the best racing game I’ve played on Steam. Hands down. The blistering sense of speed is better than all but one of the many racing games I’ve experienced, F-Zero GX being the best in that category. The three classes of cars: Legend, Classic, and Formula, each have thier own handling characteristics and quirks, and each reqiring a different skillset to be brought to thier fullest racing potential. Combine that with probably some of the most fun and frustrating original tracks in a racing game (Mario Kart notwithstanding) and you have one hell of a racing experience. That, quite honestly, only gets better with the addition of rival racers. When they’re on of course.

Facts: I’m a game moderator (voluntary user); I can be biased, but I know this game really well; also, remember that this is Early Access, so still a beta phase.

Talking about the game: first of all, despite the tags, this is NOT a simulator; it’s more like an arcade racing game with realistic features (don’t expect to drift on every corner or have random racing lines); still, the model is really satisfying: the racing experience and setup know-how is rewarded, while beginners won’t have many problems driving their first cars. With the inclusions of new events, career mode and other stuff there’s plenty to do, and car customization is one of the best ever seen in a racing game, both on visual stuff like paint and development. Good races are real fun, and the tracks are inspired and good to drive in. The devs also are very active, and try to fix bugs in a quickly way (also are active in the forums, which is nice).

Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa

A good but slightly long in the tooth simulation that has been constantly injected with new life thanks to incredibly strong modding support from day 1.

Look up Content Manager, Custom Shaders Patch and SOL, all three work together to inject new life into the game.

good driving simulator for driving enthusiasts looking to go beyond arcade racing games like gt sport or forza. Physics are more challenging, and modding is good. this version of the game is good for gamers looking to try drifting, casual race lobbies, and a wide variety of car and track mods.

pros:

-more realistic physics compared to simcade driving games

-large variety of downloadable tracks and cars online for modding

-good simulator to practice realistic drifting

-challenge modes and single player AI are actually hard

Blaze and the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers

Blaze and the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers

Fun game for my 4yr old. I like how they incorporate some of the educational stuff from the show in the loading screens

Real player with 4.5 hrs in game

Purchased for my nearly 4 year old son who loves Blaze and the Monster Machines and has experience playing games on his tablet and a little time on the Switch and PS4. He really loves being able to play as all the (fully-voiced!) characters. He also really loves Auto-Drive which basically made this a game where he watches the race and occasionally presses the “Special Power” button. There are only 10 courses (Three 3-course championships and one “Final Challenge” that is just a single loop five times.) I’m on the fence to recommend this, but what pushes me over to NO is the lack of courses. Honestly, it’s fine that this game is simple but any child over 5 is going to find this boring within 30-minutes to an hour, I think. My son isn’t quite to two hours playing and he’s already kind of over it.

Drift Of The Hill

Drift Of The Hill

Very addicting game even for early access.

What I liked:

-Cars handled really well

-some maps were well made

-detailed animations

-several cars and maps to choose from

-cars are well designed and some based off of Initial D

-The Eurobeat hell yes

What could be improved:

-Every car sounds like a supra. add a bit of variety of car sounds

-speedometer is a little off to the one inside the car

-acceleration for some cars is a little unnatural. seems like that of a supercar.

-could use more maps

-Could tweak the physics a bit. turning seems a little flimsy

The drifting in this game feels amazing once you actually learn how to do it, but there are two quality of life things that I think would make this game even better. The first is being able to save your tuning settings; Changing the tuning settings every time you restart gets kind of tedious. The second is adding more options to the replay system. Instead of just having the chase action cam, maybe add options to see in the first or third-person view? Being able to download the replays would also be nice. Other than those things, this game is a steal for less than $2.

“Bought this game just to check it out and experience F1 racing, now I can’t stop playing it”

I bought this game for 18,99 EUR online, because with 540 games on my list I haven’t had any pure racing game if I don’t count “The Crew” which is more like arcade-ish.

First of all, the menu is nicely done, you can navigate thru it very easily and understand the layout very quickly. So, I decided to start a Ultimate Championship season (I didn’t really know what ultimate means). First practice, I went out on the track and within 3 seconds I started spinning around like a crazy man, or like a 3 years old kid first time playing a game. Okay, let’s take it slowly on the gas, 1st corner coming out, I hit the gas, boom I’m out of track….. decided to not play on ultimate.

Rewritten review.

As there is no alternative F1 racing game we are stuck with Codemasters F1. I tried to like the game as you can see at my total play hours, but I always end up quiting the game frustrated and unsatisfied.

In all the hours i’ve played I never have been able to get good controls with my Xbox controler. I have messed around with every setting there is, but never been able to get some good responsive and precize analogue controls. With the joysticks I can steer very lightly or full out and nothning in between. The braking and throttle feels a bit better, but also not very smooth. I played F1 2001 on the PS and the car control back then was way better then in this F1 game 17 years later.

car go brrm brrm very fast much wow

jokes aside, a very good, yet content limited simulator (licensing). Works best with wheel. Mostly for online races - in my opinion single play is just there, to be there and to have people learn the game.

Immersion at the next level - so many things to keep in mind for every game.

I never thought I’d play anything but open wheelers, but ACC changed it forever, and gave me a real appreciation for GT3 cars.

It’s far from flawless - but most of the time it’s just beautiful.
