FlatOut

FlatOut

One of my top favorite vehicular combat racing games, and for damn good reasons. Also, one of the first games I ever remember playing, back when this came and I was 8 years old.

Pros:

  • Graphics have aged well. Sure, there’s no realtime shadows or reflections, etc..but still all in all not terrible graphics for 2004.

  • Great sound design. Crash sounds, both obstacle and car collision, are good and really add to the satisfaction of impacts. And the cars' engine sounds are really roaring and crisp.

A lot of people seem to be writing nostalgia reviews (to the point where “nostalgia” is not only the main theme, but also the only noun present in the whole review). So here’s a newcomer’s take for a change.

Flatout is many things, but firstly and foremostly it’s a racing game. You buy a car, you race AI opponents, get money to buy upgrades, or better cars. Complimenting that you have various ridiculous - but apparently quite iconic - events, which range from demolition derby to a variant of darts where you crash your car into a solid obstacle at speed to hurl yourself through the windshield and onto a gigantic net which serves as the dartboard.

Intro

Loved this game for ages, but the flaws are evident and have really stopped me from enjoying it as much lately. It’s unique and you’re not going to get a similar experience from many other games. If it weren’t for the gameplay flaws,

this game would be my second favourite Carmageddon, but they’re just too big to miss.

The Great:

++Destruction looks amazing. It’s as good as Max Damage.

++Base gameplay is so much fun. Like the first game, except improved in every single way (except where it didn’t)

This game is the most epically entertaining way to waste your readily rather spent hours of a short life. What makes this game good then:

  • Still pretty nice damage physics. Seriously. Game is nearly two decades old yet has dynamic deformation of cars, no premodeled damage. You can even split vehicles in half, at any angle..and yet even keep driving depending on how you got split. It’s also cool how your driving is handicapped by getting damage. If your engine takes damage, car accelerates slower. If powertrain takes damage, your car will start braking randomly inadvertently. If your wheels get damage, they’ll wobble and make your car lean constantly to the given side when driving and steering will become harder. If suspension takes damage, your car will steer randomly on it’s own.

This Game forgot one important point:

Drivers can not control the car reliably &

You drive using WASD + Arrows (holding down both)

Graphics are beautiful tough and I recommend playing when in deep depression

FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage

This game is literally FlatOut 2 remake.

the game have all FlatOut 2 maps and car, but the difference between this and flatout 2 is :

-the online still work on this game (but you will need to install game for windows live and a patch to make the game run)

-in solo mode, you play versus 11 NPC instead of 7

-You have some extra cars

-You have 2 or 3 extra games modes

-The games have some improved graphics, but to be honnest I liked the graphic of flatout 2 equally

-The NPC AI is a little different than flatout 2 (I think In solo mode in flatout 2 all the npc target you)

I’ve played the retail of this game, the not retail, the steam release on another account and a few times on this account..

So.. What is Flatout UC and what makes it tick?

Basically, an upgraded Flatout 2 with some chievs and stuff. But saying that isn’t helping much so lets just do a list of pros and cons. Cons first.

Cons:

  • uses GFWL

  • that glitch with rubbish on the road that normally should just bump from the car but that one critical time impales your car thru the middle and makes it vault into the air when you could have got that new lap record or won a hard race.

Gas Guzzlers Extreme

Gas Guzzlers Extreme

When I bought my first gaming PC 20 days ago, I got this game plus 3 others from the CroTeam for free. First thing I installed was Gas Guzzlers Extreme as I was a big fan of Vigilante VIII and similar vehicular combat games. Although its not Vigilante VIII or Twisted Metal in its essence, it is coming pretty close to it and I was very satisfied overall.

Pros:

1. Graphics are excellent, both enviroments and cars. Many tracks and lots of cars.

2. Physics are very satisfying as you can wreck lots of things and lose a lot of car parts in progress.

If someone ask whats the best racing game of 2013, it is definitely Gas Guzzlers Extreme to me

The game career is split into 3 tiers, each tier has a set of cars and tracks. The higher tier has more tracks but the game seem to have 4 environment only. Every race you win gets you cash to buy or upgrade your car, there isn’t much ginding in the game since the money win per race is sufficient for you to buy multiple cars and upgrade them. Every race in the game has additional objective for you to complete, completing them will grant you extra cash. Objective such as: Kill Stu Pitt by smashing or be the first in every lap or get most kills in the race and etc.

i received this game for free as a part of the pre-release testing phase. with that being said, i offered to pay for access and had been anticipating this title for months before it released from the first time i saw a post about it on FB.

the game hit a lot of check boxes for me right out of the gates such as

[x] visually appealing and performant

[x] good use of quality audio

[x] multiple control schemes to suit multiple play styles (the virtual steering wheel in a recent update worked very well and was VERY fun compared to the original implementation)

Add me on steam and DISCORD. Anyone who wants to play this game. TRAMPASAURUSREX #5046 Simply one of the best VR games around. I was sure I was gonna be dissapointed, cause I’m just not as into racing games as I was. But because I used to be I still kinda know what to look for. While this may be simplistic in the racing mechanics, it is amazing fun. It actually isn’t completely simple. Easy to play using the toggle on a standard motion controller. But if you use the virtual wheel, a bit of a challenge at first. I put the sensitivity all the way down, and for a round wondered if it could even be made to work consistently. Then I figured it out. I was just moving my wheel arm around a bit too much. I sat it my girls rocking chair with a pillow under me and one on my back. lol Footstool in front of that. I laid my arm a little on the arm rest, hand and controller angled toward my lap/legs. I found that if you just rest your arm in the same position, and rotate your hand like you are holding a little wheel, which you are, then it is perfect. I figured out that I can have even more control of my car with the virtual wheel. Only took me three rounds to get the sweet spot. Use the centering button like this. Lean forward a little bit, hit center, then relax back. Gives ya a little more space. Also makes watching the rear view mirrors easier, and also give ya some leaning room for throwing stuff behind you like an a$$#@$^. lols I adore this game. Great for parties, great for online. Even the bots are fun. The ability to combine powerups is awesome. I was rocking super chickens a lot. lols But I wiped everyone else out and lapped them with a triple chicken bomb. hahha. The racing aspects are fun. The courses are fun, with crazy events breaking them up, like a giant monkey throwing stuff at all of you. You can be in the front and suddenly be at the end. You can also, with some smart driving and use of powerups switch that and go right past everyone to number one. The power ups require some aiming and actual skill, for most, and many of them, if you are very sharp, and have good instincts and reflexes, can be dodged. Everything in this game is perfectly balanced. If this is early access then I cannot wait to see what they do with it next. The people asked for a virtual wheel, and the devs delivered almost immediately. It really does feel like you are driving it with a little toy wheel when you get your hand in that sweet spot and figure it out. Really adds to the immersion and fun. Plus I hear it supports almost all driving wheels. The devs have really outdone themselves and anyone else with this game. Love it. 💖💖💖💖 Little tip, don’t grind the break button when drifting. It seems to work better most of the time to tap it. Hooks those corners nice and tight. Also gets you out of trouble. Of course if you know you have an enemy coming up on you, and you saw their weapon, sometimes you can break, drop back behind them dodging their weapon, and then use your on them. Depending on the situation. I like to play tricky. lol Also there is just enough bullying to make it viable, require a lot of skill, and enough to make it fun. If you see someone close to a wall and they have to turn into a corner. Give them a little ram and they slam. hahah. For when you don’t have a powerup, or you wanna save it for the next guy. Again, a great game. This game would also be fun on any platform, whether it is flat screen or vr. It’s mostly a game for people who like to be friendly jerks.

“I don’t have any argument but I don’t like it !” -Bad reviews from a random lowbob. 0/10

“Like Skyrim with Polizei.” -IGN 2/10

“Polizei, oktoberfest, ausfarht, dummkopfs.” -Medic 11/10

So, first of all, this game doesn’t deserve all those bad reviews. Everyone seems to have played this game for only 15 minutes, and honestly, you can’t judge a game within 15 minutes. This game reviews are clearly manichaean ; you have two possibilities according to Steam reviews : you completly disregarded it because you played a few minutes and no minigun spawned on your car or you will find this game “somewhat OK”. In my honest opinion, I really liked this game. Of course, there is tons of better game in that game style, like the FlatOut series, but this game got a decent amount of pros. Let me make a list of the pros, the cons and the neutrals.

Real player with 76.1 hrs in game

Usually I finish game first and write review later. But this game is special. Ingame counter tells me that I have completed 42% of game and I just have to describe my last mission. As a warning.

There is tl:dr part after story - you can skip it if you value your time.

You choose part of the city where you will respawn, then car (marked with red flag which means that there is availible mission for it). So far so good.

Voice in radio tells about kidnapped bus. Voice acting is terrible but I don’t mind - they don’t talk too much. Story is garbage - realy. We know that blue bus was kidnapped… And this is our only info - so we chase nearest red dot on the map. Bus driver acts like he was crazy. Drives on wrong lane/in the middle of the road. He’s speeding and make turns that would seriously harm people inside. I think it’s the one… and nope. Apparently this is how bus is supposed to behave on road. Whatever - after 10 minutes I have found the right one. Kidnappers took only one passenger and drived away already. Luckilly (no spoilers - but story is really bad - just more driving and bad voice acting). Now I collect money (?) chase my kidnapped partner (and kidnapped girl) and switch cars with bandit (did I said that story is bad?). There is bomb inside new car so I have to travel 1,5 km fast (some plot garbage).

Crashday Redline Edition

I’ve been reading the negative reviews. After over 1000 hours of playing Crashday, I can give you an honest review, and I will be either confirming, or busting some of the “weak points” mentioned in these negative comments.

“The cars feel like they are driving on ice.”

Not really, only if you take offroad wheels on tarmac, or sport wheels on dirt. If you want to see what driving on ice is like, there’s probably a mod for that.

“The camera is low and so close to the car that you can’t even see where you’re going”

Danger Zone In-Depth Review

Back Story

Back in 2014, Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry left Criterion Games. They formed a small studio called Three Fields Entertainment. They wanted to make a “spitual successor” to Burnout, but they worked on other games, Dangerous Golf, and Lethal VR. After releasing those games, they finally talked about Danger Zone. It is based off the destruction crash mode seen in Burnout 3 Takedown. Now, Danger Zone has released, but is it any good?

Real player with 11.0 hrs in game

Danger Zone is a very good homage to the Burnout Crash Mode. I’ve been a yuge fan of Alex Ward’s team since Burnout 1. I’ll just hammer out the Pros and Cons that I’ve seen and I’ll update as I play or as patches are added.

Pros:

It’s gorgeous. Running it at 4K60 on a GTX1080/7700K and my computer isn’t even whirling up the fans. Very well optimized game with lots of eye candy and particles. Granted, it’s not working with anything beyond vehicles and walls, but the explosions are impressive and the textures are perfect.
