Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina

Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina

There are a lot of games on Steam, but once in a while, you browse the catalogue and discover a little gem hiding somewhere in the deep ends of the underated section. Ex Machina is one of those games, but let me start off by saying that this game certainly isn’t for everyone, it’s genre is considered to be a very acquired taste, but I would say it’s worth the buy anyway just for the sake of trying it. I didn’t expect it to be anything amazing given it’s lack of popularity, but I was wrong, this game is truly brilliant.

The Crossout single-player predecessor, Hard Truck Apocalypse (original name Ex Machina fits it even better) was somewhat quite intense when it first hit the shelves. The gameplay (similar to the golden classic of the Russian game development, the Vangers) was quite addictive, with all that driving in the wastes of the post-apocalyptic open world, shooting bandits, upgrading your car, delivering some post quests and convoying caravans… Driving, driving and then some more driving and fighting with your car. There was also an intriguing sci-fi story plot, with some twists and various ways to go through the game (two starting quest lines, non-linear solutions in every big chained mission in every game area, and two endings, with two different boss fights and outcomes).

Welcome to PINEHILLS

Welcome to PINEHILLS

While the store page states it was released in August 28, 2021, it is not a full release. The files even state on the startup screen they are using the July Early Release. Therefore, this game is still “Early Release”. I spent 2 hours going into every empty building, going along every road, covered the lighthouse and even went as far into the ocean until you fall off the map. The game only has 3 “otherworldly” flashbacks. The total number of angels you can find are 4 of 12. The game is impossible to complete because there are no more angels to find on the map. Once you find all 12 angles I’m guessing the trapdoor inside the church will open and you can complete the game? If you want a “complete game” with a similar map check out Titan Chaser. Your money will be better spent there unless the dev releases the complete game of Welcome to PINEHILLS cause right now this is not it folks!

The game is akin to one puzzle like you would find in Res Evil 4 and the whole game has been centered around it.

Find x number of angel statues around the game world and replace them in PineHIlls' church.

Problem is after that hiding three or four statues and placing some very empty stock asset structures in about about six different spots the devs never came back to scatter the remaining angels.

This should be Early Access but the empty discussion board suggests abandoned.

Hard Truck Apocalypse: Rise Of Clans / Ex Machina: Meridian 113

Hard Truck Apocalypse: Rise Of Clans / Ex Machina: Meridian 113

This open-world, third-person, post-apocalyptic driving shooter is kind of odd. It’s also kind of old. This game is from the mid-’00s, and there are some issues getting it to work reliably on new systems [like it failing to save video settings after restarting, occasional crashes]. The translation from Russian is a bit rough, but overall the gameplay of driving about and shooting all sorts of things is compelling. Especially because you get to customize your rig, not just with different chassies, but within chassises. You tend to have three or so different models of cab and/or trailer to swap out, equip, and possibly even load up with cargo.

It only took me 2 days to finish the storyline which I found actually short(Half the time I was actually trading and buying and doing side quests). I haven’t finished Ex Machina since I don’t want to end the game too soon. Anyways just like Ex Machina its the same vehicle combat game rpg with trading and quests. The trucks are the same in addition to adding the scout and the fighter that you can actually drive. The paint jobs got a bit more of an upgrade giving some personality to your truck. Same weapons return just like the previous. I did enjoyed this one but like I said I was bummed that I finished it too early. The boss fights were a bit fustrating and your character tends to kill anything on his path. But hey we got a new region which is now in North America. But I found em a bit smaller in towns. There were some cities but they were that enough. I still recommend it if you were a fan of Ex Machina.

This feels like a free game. I got it for $0.49, which is a perfectly acceptable price because I would still like to support the creators. But the sticker price is too much for the experience being so short and unpolished.

Alaskan Truck Simulator

Alaskan Truck Simulator

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1149620/Gas_Station_Simulator/

Get behind the wheel of a mighty truck and jump into the boots of the Alaskan truckers, challenge and be challenged by one of the harshest and dangerous environments.

Alaskan Truck Simulator is a unique game that blends the well-known simulators’ classics with the ruthless environment of Alaska and elements of survival. Buckle up, we are about to set off for the proper adventure!

What comes to your mind when you think of Alaska? Endless wastelands, towering peaks, harsh winters, and sunny spring-like meadows. Alaska is a unique place to explore. How to do it better than driving a truck across the entire state? Experience changing weather, vehicles’ behavior on snow, cross the uneven roads, and find out how is your truck’s condition affected by harsh climate or the driver itself –this is just to name a few elements of the game.

It would be a dreamy world if you could carelessly drive around Alaska, but let’s be real, you need these bucks to fuel your truck and feed yourself, ain’t you?

Let’s start with a few cargoes. In order not to take the fun out of driving, while progressing in the game you will gain access not only to the better trucks or equipment but also to the more challenging missions. Anyway, no matter the prestige of your mission, always drive with cautious as you may lose your cargo, damage your truck and finally, end up with debt instead of earning.

You are here for a bit of adrenaline too, right?

We want to show by our game the bond between man and the machine, what shows it better than exploring the basic needs of both? You will need to pay attention to the stats management as well for yourself as for your vehicle. Hungry, tired, out of fuel or with a broken tire - take care of all the difficulties you can encounter on the road!

Among many features:

  • Dynamic weather system with Day/Night cycle

  • Vast interactive environment to explore

  • A dynamic economy based on jobs, ranks, and performance

  • Survival system

  • Useful knowledge to gain and mysteries to discover

  • Crafting, upgrading, repairing

  • Multiple roads, routes, and wastelands to conquer in your truck

Russian Roads

Russian Roads

TL:DR: Terrible but hilarious and kind of fun to play.

Cons:

Absurd physics

Mediocre sound

Terrible checkpoints around the corner so you don’t know which way you’re going,

The other npc vehicles are faster even after you’ve applied the 3 torque upgrades

Pros

Funny AF

Achievements

Trading cards

Computer AI so dumb it’s hilarious

Hasn’t crashed or bugged out

Worth the sale price because I’m enjoying it and want to complete it.

Russian Roads is a 3D third person road racing game made out of a series of Unity Asset flips. It’s designed as a mostly joke game to lambast the state of roads in Russia, as the tracks have a series of potholes and other aspects of disrepair that act as obstacles to the driver.

Despite some effort around assembling a game from a racing template and some low quality/asset flipped vehicles and environments, the end product is still obviously asset flip tier and of such poor quality that I can’t recommend it. The joke premise is mildly amusing for around 2 minutes. Laush Studio has a long history of these kinds of frankenstein asset flips, and this is no exception to their record of poor quality bundle fillers.

Bus World

Bus World

Bus World is a game about passenger transportations in various conditions, starting from standard days of a bus driver and ending with rescuing people who suffered from disasters.

Time and place of action are very diverse!

Each map has its own atmosphere and scenarios.

Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukrainian SSR, 1986

The game features a unique possibility to take a look at Pripyat, Chernobyl and surroundings of the infamous Nuclear Power Plant slightly before the disaster and to dive into the atmosphere of Soviet communism. We tried to make Chernobyl Zone look as realistic as possible by using maps, photos and videos, so that houses, key locations and roads are in the same place as in reality.

You are going to work as a standard bus driver before the explosion. Your goal is to deliver staff to the Power Plant, lift tourists to their destination points, and so on. Also, you’ll have to deal with difficulties such as breakdowns.

Everything changes when disaster strikes. You’ll see the destroyed 4th power unit, Red Forest and other famous places of Exclusion Zone. Help liquidators to address the impact of the catastrophe, take part in evacuation and do your best not to get large dose of radiation.

Southern China, our days

Welcome to sunny jungles and narrow roads on serpentines! But don’t lose your attention because weather might be cruel here. You are going to experience tsunami and floods, earthquake with rockfall, and even a deadly tornado! It’s really hard to drive as there are lots of sharp corners, cliffs and impassable roads.

Maximal Scenarios variety

There are three types of scenarios:

1. Standard scenarios about driving people to their destination.

2. Scenarios with breakdowns. You’ll have to deal with different problems such as faulty steering, and this is while trying to take sharp turns. But sometimes terrain can even help you, for example when you have to turn off the engine while driving off cliffs to save some fuel.

3. Disasters, from explosion on Chernobyl Power Plant to wildfires, earthquakes and tornadoes. You’ll always have to keep an eye on tornado in order not to end up going straight into it. It’s even more difficult when you’re driving on extremely bad road where you can easily puncture a tire by driving over bump at high speed. After the Chernobyl Power Plant disaster, help liquidators to find the most radiation poisoned spots in Red Forest. But never forget that large radiation dose can be deadly for you.

These and many other interesting situations will be available to be played!

Earn experience, unlock new scenarios, buses and upgrades

You will get experience, which levels you up, for completing each scenario. Each new level will unlock more scenarios and ability to play them with any bus and upgrades of your choice.

Cyber Driver

Cyber Driver

It’s a pretty good game imo. Being a game developer myself, I appreciate the indie dev’s hard work. Working alone on a game project is a daunting task.

The cyberpunk style feels nice. But the game needs some minor fixes.

Maybe improve the lighting or change the buildings' color from black to any other color. The game looks really dark sometimes, making it nearly impossible to play.

In it’s current state, the game isn’t 60 fps buttery smooth. Some work needs to be done on that as well.

Real player with 3.3 hrs in game

Now in the early stages of this game, I must admit, it had some issues, although I always actually liked the concept of it. A few updates later and here we are, the developer has obviously worked hard on tweaking it. The graphics, are now very cyber-punk, the controls work well and it just feels a lot better. I still find the collision detection can sometimes be a bit off, but apart from that, well done Dev. A nice simple but challenging game. Keep going!
