Battle Crate Simulator

Battle Crate Simulator

In this box-by-box physics simulation, you build ships out of crates to blast enemies and carry cargo. With two modes available, work your way up from a dingy to a battleship in adventure mode or arrange a battle in the sandbox!

Build ships using an array of components with different stats and an assortment of weapons with their own strengths and weaknesses. Each box moves independently so damage to any ship will greatly affect it’s performance; using the targeting feature, you can instruct your ship’s hardpoints to strike critical blows. You are also able to save and load your designs into any mode, allowing you to test your adventure mode designs in sandbox battles to reveal their weaknesses. This game was designed to be very “menu-light”, so most interaction takes place directly with visual objects to create a smooth and simple take on the vehicular build-and-battle genre.

Available Modes

1. Adventure Mode

  • Build a ship with limited supplies and try to survive on the open sea!

  • Trade goods from markets by transporting supplies in custom built freighter ships.

  • Arm you ship and fight the fleets of ambient ships you’ll encounter.

  • Accept quests to fight challenging enemy designs and conquer the seas.

In adventure mode, a open world environment awaits for you to explore with custom battle crate ships. By trading, stealing goods from NPC ships or scraping enemy ships you defeat, you can earn resources to unlock new crates and build bigger ships. Random encounters on the open sea present challenges and opportunities; you may find a cargo ship worth pillaging or aggressive pirates may spill your goods into the sea!

2. Sandbox Mode

  • Create a custom battle with as many object as you’d like.

  • Set teams and join either by starting the game.

  • Restart will reset your designs so you can tweak and start it again!

In sandbox mode, you can create custom battles with your own ship designs. Set up two opposing fleets and watch them battle to the end. Want to tweak something shortly after starting? No worries, just reset and all your setup work is preserved!

The Ultra Code

The Ultra Code

The price is a bit high for the amount of gameplay you get, but the voice acting makes it worth it to me ($5.99 at the time of this review).

Although you can speedup the dialog a bit by holding the left-click, I would have appreciated it more for an actual skip, as I did replay it a few times to get a better overall result.

I was confused at first with the bulb purchasing, I thought I got to keep those until I realized you always started with the minimum bulb amount.

I know that this game has only been out for a few months, but I highly recommend a mode where you can create challenges for other people and also try to complete other people’s challenges. Would be great for those who want to play more without having to wait for updates, DLC, or a 2nd game.

I will preface this review with the following statement: The Ultra Code has problems, it is a deeply flawed game.

That being said, The Ultra Code has decent voice acting, an interesting premise, and some satisfying visual feedback. Unfortunately, the game is confused about what it wants to be, and confuses the casual audience in its presentation of historical events.

On the first count, the game seems to be unsure as to whether it should be a programming/electromechanical puzzle game or whether it should be a strategy game where the player makes meaningful decisions to win a war. The Ultra Code struggles to meet the standard set by other games in the programming/electromechanical puzzle genre; there is no real chance to learn and optimize your work, there are no metrics about your solution, and in fact you can’t save, edit, or even view your work after you complete a puzzle. From a purely mechanical perspective the puzzles never really change, no mechanics change over the 20 level run (38 if you count the easy level alternatives). While falling flat as a puzzle game The Ultra Code’s strategy elements also underwhelm. Supposedly you are gathering information to win a war, so you spend that information on various military operations which contribute to a score counter that determines the outcome of the war. The operation mechanic has the potential to reward the player and act as a driving gameplay force. Sadly the developers chose not to capitalize on this potential. Instead the strategy elements act as both a score sink and an obstacle to the player, as a player could easily waste their precious intel on the wrong operations, but no matter what operations a player chooses, the only real result is the player seeing one of two slide-shows at the end of the game. This mechanic baffles the mind with how shallow it is, contributing nothing other than a meta-puzzle whose only challenge lies in the fact that during the first playthrough the player is unaware of all the pieces. Thus as a game of strategy this game fails, as a game of puzzles this game also fails.

WAR FACTORY

WAR FACTORY

War factory was game i was looking for.

Why? Because it mixes war and production managment at basic level and that was something i was really missing. Positive thing WAS (not anymore) that developers were quickly reacting on discord when i reported any bugs or suggest some ideas that might be implement into game.

Do i recommend this game? NO.

Because game is still buggy in many ways and price is definitly not something that will make you overlook this bugs. IF developer will fix bugs and will add more things (like ideas i have written to them at discord some time ago, you are welcome) then maybe it will be worth. But at this price right now definitly not.

Note this is an update for original review; in which the game was had problems affected the player’s ability to play the game. These problems have been fixed in a previous patch as writing this.

War Factory is still in an early state; but much more playable and enjoyable after the patch. Additionally, devs are very receptive to the player’s feedback in fixing problems with the game.

I do recommend this game, if you want a wargame mixed with production/efficiency focus management game. Keep in mind of the combat you don’t really have any control over the positioning, movement or the tactics of your troops in the game. But for what the game is doing I find this not a problem; as most your time is focused on the factory. However, I am unsure if this something the devs are planning to change in the future.

Mech Mechanic Simulator

Mech Mechanic Simulator

I wish I could recommend this game but I just can’t in good conscience. It’s a fun and novel idea that I jumped into after discovering that my owning Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 (CMS from here on) gave me a small PlayWay loyalty discount, but it’s very much held back by some questionable design decisions and somewhat limited amount of content.

First, the Good

  • All of the mechs look decent (albeit small) and unique and have a surprising amount of detail in the components that can be detached. repaired, and reattached.

Real player with 25.2 hrs in game

I could not start a new game at first. An integrity check on the files showed that half of the download was not good. Re Downloaded those files and now I am running all Ultra settings.

Short Version: This game could become an awesome Mech Mechanic Sim. Right now it is lacking. I will support the game and not return it because I can see that it may advance over time.

Details:

  1. It does not make me feel like a mechanic. It feels more like a search and find game or a memory game. When I have taken apart or assembled items I always lay the parts out so that I am sure on assembly that I have not missed anything. Part of feeling like I am progressing is that eventually I can dump the parts out and do a full assembly in 30 minutes without looking at a diagram. In Mech mechanic there is no way to get that feeling. When you disassemble you can see the part you need to get to thanks to the scan. To get there though you move your mouse around waiting on a part to turn green. Then you select that part and see if you can wiggle it off - no? well now you look for the screws or retaining part and remove that. now you wiggle the part off - rinse repeat. Seek and Find. After doing that to the same arm on the same mech you might could get that “muscle memory” built up over time but wait - Sometimes when you take it a part you unscrew the part but when you assemble it you have to select the part and it attaches itself automatically. That lack of consistency actually breaks the muscle memory and makes you feel like you are doing it wrong. All parts you unscrew on disassemble should have you screw it back on in assembly.

Taur

Taur

So, first did i recommend the game? It’s a big yes. But there is some little thing that need to be said. First, in respone with every player saying “it’s an endless lose spiral” no, look a little bit at the game and you will see that when a tower get destroyed, IT’S ENTIRELY REFUND. Second, if you die on the first few day… You’re not ready for the days after 80. You can’t blame a game cause you’re bad. It’s remind me of something… A yes, Git Gud Scrubs. Third, the dmg of the tower. I see some people complaining about the dmg of the tower being unfair, that it’s ridiculous. To that i have to say that i didn’t get any problem on this side on my first run. The first tower you get is insane with some upgrade, it OS every little infantery ennemy, and you destroy ennemy tank quickly. So yes, the game is hard, but not impossible. You need to prioritize some upgrade, when you see a precise ennemy, focus it, etc… there is some kind of aim assist too, so aiming is not THAT hard. I love all the effect of explosion, it was soooo good. The graphisms are good too, and i love to see all the little infantery fly when i nuke them. It’s hard, but not impossible.

This is a recommendation, but with some major caveats. I’ll break it down into good and bad here. I’ll also go in depth on a major complaint I have with the game.

The Good:

  • A fun and relaxing tower defense game

  • A nice balance between the impact of your towers and the impact of your own manual fire control of the Taur Prime cannon

  • Very sleek aesthetic, the game and models looks good in a classy indie way. The guardian robots look especially cool with a Greek Hoplite style spear and shield armament

Watch Tower

Watch Tower

“Casual arcade with clicker elements! Defend the Kingdom from invasion!”

Well, this 5€/$ game starts with too much enthusiasm maybe.. let’s see =P

Starting from the very first screens, it’s clear that this is a mobile phone game. Cheesy and colorful graphics, little to no text (no settings basically), few things to click or, well, to touch..

And just a few upgrades and boosts: double arrows, poison and freeze arrows; more soldiers, our wall stronger and little else.

The game offers no tutorial at all, even if it’s quite simple - you’ll play as some soldiers in a watch tower on the left side of the screen with the enemies coming in waves from the right side.

Opinion:

Another game I bought during the sales, and the first thing I want to make sure is that it’s not worth your money! I was hoping for this to be one of those old-school tower defense games, but it’s not.

This game has 30 levels, which all look the same.

It’s a very active game, where you need to spam your mouse buttons all the time. The defending of your tower/castle only happens by you, spamming those buttons. There are a couple of things you can upgrade, but they actually don’t help you that much. Unfortunatly this game lacks variation, which makes you want to quit it after probably 5-10 levels.
