Knights and Castles

Knights and Castles

I thought this game was decent until I logged out. When I logged back in, all of my progress was gone after 63 hours of play as there is NO save option. And there is NO offline progression, so you gotta grind constantly albeit it can be in the background. And smelting large amounts takes longer than mining, I haven’t found a way to speed up smelting process if there is one. This game needs major improvements.

I like idle games . . . a lot. Not sure why, but I play them almost exclusively. This is the 4th title I’ve played from this dev. This is his 6th game in about 11 months that he’s published on Steam, plus a few paid DLCs. Don’t know how many other games he’s published on other platforms.

From his other games, he seems to copy most of the core mechanics from one game to the next, along with some style aspects of the UI. This game has more refined graphics than the previous 8 bit graphics. I don’t mind 8 bit games at all and I’m not sure whether he made these assets himself or got them from an asset pack. Likely a mix of both. It’s a simple, grindy idle game with a built in auto-idle feature (buggy) that auto fights for you over night, if the game runs over night, so you don’t need to set up an auto clicker or anything. There’s no prestige/reset mechanic, but you increase the difficulty and rewards by fighting through all the mobs in each area at level 1, then when you beat the boss at the end, you can increase the mob difficulty and keep doing loops, increasing the difficulty as you go.

Pros:

  • Cute character sprites.

  • Decent music.

  • Small download.

  • Active developer.

Cons:

  • Sprites and texts are all different resolutions/sizes that don’t mix well. The dev needs to gain a better understanding of pixels, resolutions, and why stretching pixel art is a bad thing.

  • The GUI style makes it impossible to understand which numbers are prices and which numbers are how much you have on hand. The GUI style also does not do a good job of graying out or recoloring controls when you cannot afford things. The buttons at least have a hover-color, which is an improvement from the dev’s previous games.

RPG IDLE

RPG IDLE

Wonderful! Simple but the mechanics works. It is a great idle game to run on a second window while playing something else. I like that you can move from the forest and work you way up to the city. For now combat and training seems well balanced. I wonder how it will work out after 100 or so prestige. There was an option to turn the volume down and that is great because the clicking sound is dreadful. Problem is the volume toggle only controls the music not the annoying click sound unless fully muted. The sound track is pretty decent and upbeat so it kinda sucked when i had to mute it. There seemed to be a small delay between when the enemy despawned and when i swung my sword. The enemy was dead before i could swing. With faster attacks it might look fine tho. I wish there was more mobs but for the price “it what it is”. Maybe with support there will be an update with more gates or bosses. The main thing here is the mechanics work and for that i would recommend RPG IDLE if you are looking for a satisfying and simple idle game.

UPDATED:

The developer fixed the problem with the game not working in the background, and I also tested its new recalculating function after leaving it in fight mode overnight, to see if my toon would get zeroed, and it looked good.

Overall, since this game is so cheap, it’s easy to get your money’s worth, and it’s fun figuring out how to gain levels efficiently.

Note that the ATK upgrade behaves differently from most of the other upgrades I used (like defense): each point adds 10% of your existing base attack at the time of the upgrade to your attack in a fight, but does not update your base attack, or scale when you add more to your base, so it’s worthwhile to hold off on the upgrade as long as you can.

hmm, this is a pretty decent game for just an idle grinder. I just have a few issues with it.

One, i with that the shop, and smithy had a description for all the items and equipment. Some of them, like the pickaxe and the sword, i can intuitively guess what they do, but its really annoying to have to figure it out from checking the stats screen, rather than having text that informs you

Second, I wish that there was a way to spend a lot of stat points, or even gold at once. For instance, any casual afk session would easily net me over 600 stat points, but adding them takes forever, as I have to manually click over and over for just one level. Which leads me to having to click over 600 times everytime i decide to stop afking for a bit. Let alone how long it takes to make use of my gold. My finger starts to hurt as i try to speed through it.

The developer definitely needs to ass in the game description that this is an IDLE game, I did see it after I click on the game in store and scroll down, but it IS NOT in the BASIC description of the game. This is absolutely as basic of an “IDLE RPG” as it gets, with absolutely no effort put into designing the game, no effort into adding content to the game, with no effort put into a story for the game. This is a game where you just click “mission” and watch “your character” “battle” a NPC, and watch for hours and hours until you’ve gained enough xp, and materials to build your character up to then click “mission” again, to fight the “next NPC” to watch the same thing and repeat the same thing over and over and over again. Horrible game, and my 7 year old son could have put more effort, and creativity into a game than this. I will literally only let this “idle play” when I get off my computer to go to bed, for the sole purpose of getting all of the achievements for the game, which again aren’t creative at all, “play the game”, “reach level such and such”, reach level such and such, and so on and so forth. Horrible game design and creativity.

Idle Monster Frontier

Idle Monster Frontier

I find this to actually be a very good Single Player Monster Collector game.

You push your team of monsters through a series of waves of enemies, collecting gold and other monsters to build your team. The basic gameplay loop is a monster collector, where a gold resource and other monsters you don’t want/need are consumed to make your main monsters more powerful.

It has a traits system where monsters can learn abilities from others allowing for customization.

The game is free, obviously with some very pay to win stuff available in the store. However there is practically nothing you cannot get in this game by playing it normally for free. The daily gems (premium currency) quests will give you a slow stream of currency to buy the things you need. Some players have complained that the best monsters in game are purchasable in the shop for 750 gems (which is a LOT) however they don’t really take into account that fact that this is a bad purchase type. The monster could have a low speed rating, and due to how levelling up a monster works, you do not need only 1 of a top tier monster, you will ultimately need many, many copies.

READ THIS!!

Lets start by saying this game will not play itself 100% of the time, SO WHAT!!.

This game has TONS of unique things not seen or tried on any of the multiple and plenty of Idles ive played before!

This game encourages creativity and imagination to build not the optimal but the team you dream of, The core is the only defining part while you are able to freely create a creature however you dream it for you specific team. They add new units, events, and they are (DEV) Looking out for the game, Dont let this few people that play the game for minutes or even low hours fool you. THIS IS A GREAT GAME.

Incremental Cubes

Incremental Cubes

At this time I feel like you should probably not get this game.

Quick notes:

  • The game is free, but you should be warned that the game is still buggy and the balance is out of whack.

  • Also not very obvious in the video or description is that while the game is free, there is an in-game store where you can purchase stuff like temporary speed boosts, extra slots, and permanent upgrades to the game speed. You aren’t explicitly forced to buy anything and there is a daily bonus that can give you a bit of the in-game currency, but it’s random and even with the best luck (always getting the 3% chance reward) it would take 10 days to get anything really worthwhile.

Most recent update destroyed the game. In discord the Developer said;

“[v 1.0.7 “Hot Fix”]

Offline bonuses and helper updates

Adjusted to reset the original maximum value on prestige.”

These “helper updates” have caused people to no longer progress in the game at a reasonable rate. Game is now in a dire need of rebalancing. game is currently UNPLAYABLE as of November 22nd 2021. I will not be playing anymore. I will consider my $10 that I paid for the “starter pack” a “cost” of trying out this game. I do NOT recommend to anyone who likes Idle or Incremental games.

Loot Hero DX

Loot Hero DX

TL;DR: A well-made but fairly pointless grinding game. Only recommended for achievement hunters so you at least get a trophy out of it.

In a traditional RPG you usually start as a low-level character with little to no equipment and the only way to become more powerful is to complete quests kill monsters.

Basically begin with a standard RPG. Take out quests and dialogues, reduce equipment to purchasable stats and reduce the combat to just damage-per-second and make it a side-scroller and you’ve got yourself Loot Hero. The gameplay consists of three parts: choosing a level, running left and right killing monsters and buying better stats at the towns in-between. There’s also a short and pretty meaningless story: a terrible dragon has appeared and you, the hero, has to go and kill it to save the land.

Real player with 31.1 hrs in game

I really want to like this game: it has really neat pixel graphics, lots of critters to kill, keeps stats, and has achievements and trading cards. But, the reality is that the gameplay gets boring after the first three minutes. Even the added concept of releasing miners to collect gold for you after every successful run through all levels fails, because it’s just accelerating a timer event…it doesn’t add to the gameplay at all.

In the end, all you do is collect enough treasure and XP to buff your character, who kills the baddies by – literally – running into them. There is no learning tactics for combat or developing strategies by buffing your character a specific way. You just level up your stats evenly as you collect loot, enough that you don’t watch your health bar go down much at all while you’re running back and forth, grind away until you start taking damage as you continue through the levels, and then rinse and repeat. Gameplay does not change on any levels, nor do you treat any of the creatures differently…you just run through them.

Your Chronicle

Your Chronicle

Even though it has its flaws, this is one of the best idle games I have played!

The story is great, and I like how even small choices change things. Its filled with cliches, and is probably written by someone who doesnt have english as their first language, but still makes it all a bit more entertaining!

There is some bottlenecks and obstacles, but getting over them is very rewarding, even if it takes some patience. You will probably have to be ready to grind at least the first hour/hours of the game because of them.

Real player with 1087.9 hrs in game

It’s kind of nice to not get instant gratification, but also I feel like this game is way more just incremental than it is truly idle.

There are a bunch of parts where you just won’t ever really meaningfully progress unless you’re actively playing, and no real way to make a “build” or “playstyle” that will do much to avoid that.

The “habits” system is the only thing I’ve seen so far that I’d call true idle, and even then the diminishing returns set in hard and fast, and many habits are ironically only practical to train past a certain point once you’ve actively played enough to make the idling faster.

B100X - Auto Dungeon RPG

B100X - Auto Dungeon RPG

I do recommend the game but…there’re several glaring flaws.

The game does a very poor job explaining the item mixing system. This is because the game literally tells you nothing about the major rules governing item mixing and essence extraction. However, you can generally create items that continuously get stronger through good use of blank essences and abrasive stones. I wouldn’t have figured that out without hanging out on the game’s Steam forum.

The Heart System is literally a pointless feature. You lose a heart each time you die, unless you have Heart Protection. Lose all 5 hearts and you lose all of your equipped items the next time you die. Your hearts are restored for free every day at midnight. Seriously, this “feature” just screws over the player by preventing them from playing out of fear of losing their items when they’re out of hearts…or you could open the wallet for 75 hearts via microtransactions. Scroll up and look at the store page to see the price.

A great game - this is a semi idle game you can play actively for quite a long time before it starts slowing down. The game has very in depth ‘crafting’ mechanics, which are core of the game, so I have made a guide for the English speaking community based on sea season(patch 1.2 approximately) and added my own build in so you know that it’s not game being unfair, but you simply needing to be smart with using it’s mechanics.

Be aware that using the guide can take part of the fun you get by learning the unknown.
