Task Men

Task Men

–- Don’t buy the game —-

Since January no patches anymore and no reaction for 2 weeks on my question if they will continue developing the game. Maybe it is temporary, but I would at least wait until the development is progressing again. Just a pity, because the game has good potential sniff.

As a really fan of these kind of autobattlers I bought the game for 3 euro’s when it came out. The games plays smoothly, but in 20 min my run was finished and I won the game and did it again and again. Total 1 hr play.

Great game! I also thought the same as most of you, oh this game looks pretty bad. I gave it a try though and I have to say I am saddened that not a lot of people play this. It would be great if more people would join in and we could get multiplayer matches going. Definitely lots of fun and has a nice different feel from a 1v1 tug-of-war game.

EvolveLabOnline

EvolveLabOnline

Evolve Lab is an online multiplayer game in which you try to descend as deep as possible into the depths of an unknown planet.

In each stage you will fight against creatures that were created by other players and if you win you can improve the programming of your creature until you are the first player to reach a new record depth!

Whenever a creature loses, the creature stays at the current depth and becomes an opponent for the next players.

So over time the waters of this planet will be filled with all kinds of different creatures and it will get harder and harder to be the first player to reach a new depth.

Greed Knights

Greed Knights

As of this review, I have 100% achievements on Greed Knights.

Let me get something out of the way, I DO NOT hate this game, nor do I think it’s terrible for an idle game. However, I CANNOT recommend this game to anyone who’s going for 100% like I did (the only reason I was able to 100% this game quicker than I thought was because of the recent update to reach Level 60 instead of 80).

Whenever I opened this game (after already grinding to about Level 30), I would fly by levels and just spawn into the Evil Throne over and over again to grind, and even leave my computer on overnight to grind. I wish it didn’t have to be this way, because now I have over 400 HOURS on record (probably would’ve been over 1000 if I had to reach Level 80, no exaggeration). An “offline progress” system is MUCH needed here, similar to Adventure Capitalist, or any other idle game I can think of.

This is the 2nd game he’s released on Steam, and I think the 4th or 5th of his I’ve played.

This is a short, simple, low content idle game. Good for grinding achievements maybe, but rather devoid of content. It’s got simple 8 bit art, which I don’t mind, and he reuses a lot of game mechanics and button/UI graphics. His UIs are confusing and chaotic. A lot of the time you have to hunt for the actual buttons or things you can interact with as often there’s no way to tell what is a display field and what is a button.

I thought this game was decent until I logged out. When I logged back in, all of my progress was gone after 63 hours of play as there is NO save option. And there is NO offline progression, so you gotta grind constantly albeit it can be in the background. And smelting large amounts takes longer than mining, I haven’t found a way to speed up smelting process if there is one. This game needs major improvements.

Long term investment idle game.

DLC is only if you want to support the developer and the goodies it gives are nothing one cannot unlock normally in the game. (Just a little boost to help you start)

Enjoy however you like and consider supporting the developer!

Classic idle grinder game with custom graphics and animation from a solo developer.

I like idle games . . . a lot. Not sure why, but I play them almost exclusively. This is the 4th title I’ve played from this dev. This is his 6th game in about 11 months that he’s published on Steam, plus a few paid DLCs. Don’t know how many other games he’s published on other platforms.

From his other games, he seems to copy most of the core mechanics from one game to the next, along with some style aspects of the UI. This game has more refined graphics than the previous 8 bit graphics. I don’t mind 8 bit games at all and I’m not sure whether he made these assets himself or got them from an asset pack. Likely a mix of both. It’s a simple, grindy idle game with a built in auto-idle feature (buggy) that auto fights for you over night, if the game runs over night, so you don’t need to set up an auto clicker or anything. There’s no prestige/reset mechanic, but you increase the difficulty and rewards by fighting through all the mobs in each area at level 1, then when you beat the boss at the end, you can increase the mob difficulty and keep doing loops, increasing the difficulty as you go.

Pros:

  • Cute character sprites.

  • Decent music.

  • Small download.

  • Active developer.

Cons:

  • Sprites and texts are all different resolutions/sizes that don’t mix well. The dev needs to gain a better understanding of pixels, resolutions, and why stretching pixel art is a bad thing.

  • The GUI style makes it impossible to understand which numbers are prices and which numbers are how much you have on hand. The GUI style also does not do a good job of graying out or recoloring controls when you cannot afford things. The buttons at least have a hover-color, which is an improvement from the dev’s previous games.

First things first, heed the content warning.

Not sure why the captives had to be chained up, the plot implies everyone is a willing participant.

Beatable in four hours. Interesting monster designs. A fair bit of thought has been put into this game.

Combat suffers from being JRPG random encounters + level grind. Would have been fun if you had to think a bit more about which splits you bring with you and what they’re geared with for each fight (in fairness, you probably do on Hard but it’s a bit hard to tell what’s going on).

really great game and concept! I don’t play many games for nearly this long

I wish the progression was unlimited somehow though.. it seems lightning spam covers most top spots? I have one concept strategy that may work but I don’t think the math will add up properly to counter lightning in the end… unlimited progression would just mean that, it would take an exponential amount of time to counter meta strategies (i think?)… (maybe a constantly shifting meta?) just a thought though, it may be tough to implement

I’ve had the pleasure of testing this game in and out during the beta. At the highest level of difficulty this game provides quite the challenge and I’ve enjoyed all 45 hours that I’ve spent playing the game!

Cute graphics

Hard challenge

Good replayability

As a side note, this game is a solo indie dev’s first project ever, so he earns my total respect for that! Can’t wait to see what’s in store next!

This review is further detailed in the video below.

Guardians of Hyelore is a diamond in a rough for those that enjoy the defense style of games. I am impressed by the amount of progression options and the amount of work that went into this. For the right price this is easily a day 1 buy for me.
