Touhou Gensokyo Visitor

Touhou Gensokyo Visitor

If you’re a Touhou fan, the circular writing and explanations of the setting you’re already familiar with will probably bore you, if the characterizations and canon divergences don’t outright annoy or infuriate you. If you aren’t, I don’t know if this would be a compelling introduction to the series.

The art assets and occasional sparks of animation are quite good, but the VN as a whole is bland and long-winded. The focus is on a relationship that doesn’t have any depth or interest, between a cardboard cutout and an out-of-character Reimu. The game is riddled with typoes to boot, and this is after a typo-squashing patch.

Not really sure what I just played, but I’m not regretting at giving it the time.

What I’ll commend the most is the visuals; the dynamic animations and art that are used with the character sprites and CGs were something that I wasn’t expecting from the get-go. They all look well-made, polished and up-to-date.

The new designs for the characters were mostly solid and pretty faithful to the original designs, save for a few; Not really a fan of Sakuya’s redesign and Cirno just looks … off, for some reason. Lastly, aren’t Yukari’s eyes violet instead of amber? I’m not sure.

WitchSpring3 Re:Fine - The Story of Eirudy -

A 6-10 hours game where you play as a nameless witch raised by her grandmother living in a secluded forest, One day you find a cute boar and chase after it to mofu mofu it and the story begins…

Gameplay wise, everything is simplistic. No inventory management; no nonsense, just a game where you can fully engross into the story.

Grandmother’s letter makes me cry so badly. whyyy…

One of the games where I don’t turn off in-game music because it’s that good.

Try out the sequel 1,2,4 on app store probably if you haven’t!

Fun game. Got kinda stale toward the end so I never finished it. Maybe I’ll mess with it again some day.

Really unique puzzle to story interface. I really enjoyed it! I just wish that the interface wasn’t so sensitive. Sometimes when I would move a frame, it would lock in somewhere that I didn’t want it to go and I would have to restart the level. You also HAVE to play fullscreen if you want to see everything. Unfortunately the story was also pretty unsatisfactory.

It’s basically a matching game. I enjoyed going through it, but knowing what kind of game it was would have been helpful. You’re just trying to find which objects are similar or themed similarly.

Ghost on the Shore

Ghost on the Shore

Ghost on the Shore is a story exploration game about emotional ties that transcend even death.

You play as Riley, a young woman who finds herself stranded on a desolate island with a headstrong ghost, dead for as long as he can remember.

As you explore the crumbling homes of the vanished islanders and discover their belongings, you get to know the ghost Josh. As you make irrevocable choices in dialogue you shape the bond with him, which ultimately influences the outcome of the game.

As Riley puts it all together, she comes to understand how an island’s history has led to Josh' death.

Exploration and Environmental Storytelling

You explore the beautiful scenery of The Rogue Islands on foot. As you do, you talk to Josh about the history of the islands, his memories, his feelings, but also about Riley’s dreams and goals, and why she’s running from her old life.

As a team, you and Josh discover the old islanders’ belongings and uncover the stories behind them. Which creates a specific sense of what life was like on these islands before people started leaving.

Immersive Dialogue

A unique feature that allows the player to make choices in a subtle immersive way. You don’t always know how your words will affect the other. Words are powerful tools. Just like in real life, things can become fun, exciting or plain awkward.

Irrevocable Choices

Every dialogue option is shown only once, which makes your choices definite.

Branching Narrative

The relationship you choose to build with the ghost defines the narrative branch you get to explore. There are four branches with a different ending for each.

Haven

»Anyway, how much rust do you need in order to “pull the panties down”?«

This review contains no major story spoilers.

Haven is a narrative-driven adventure that tells the classic, almost cliché story of two lovers on the run from an oppressive force trying to drive them apart. Luckily, the way the story is written and conveyed is pretty damn amazing and easily takes center-stage. The Game Bakers delivered something quite unique in many ways, and it is easy to fall in love with many aspects of this flawed gem.

Journey of the Broken Circle

Journey of the Broken Circle

A simple but enjoyable story-driven platformer. I’m not really sure the trailer accurately portrays the context of the story but the game is fun; if the trailer or screenshots interest you, you’ll probably enjoy this game.

Real player with 6.0 hrs in game

It really reminds me of Thomas was Alone both story and gameplay-wise with some minor differences. You’re controlling a circle instead of various rectangles through series of linear levels. The story is narrated through speech bubbles but sadly without any voiceover. If you liked Thomas was Alone, this will be right up your alley.
