I decided that it’s probably about time that i edited my review cause i’d say it’s pretty much needed, so yeah here it goes.

Back in early 2016 i stumbled across this game on the “Upcoming” tab on the store page i watched the trailer, read the description and such and i liked at the time i was still pretty new to the Half-Life franchise and i had just finished Half-Life 2 and it’s episodes and i still had a craving for more so i pre-ordered this game and patiently waited till its release a month later. Personally i liked the game, i loved the way it looked, its levels, music, etc, others didn’t cause it lacked many things which i don’t have to list cause we all know what it lacks, yet i still liked it despite that but lookin' back at it today i was being a bit naive. But anyways i’ve provived enough backstory and i’ll cut to the chase while i do love this game and know it has great potential and can be much, much more the path it has taken isn’t very bright. Over the course of about 2 years we’ve been shown future content that will be added into the game such as 3d models/brush works, new maps & updated maps, and even a video showing a future chapter to be added. That’s great and all but where is all this stuff? It’ll be added in a overhaul update so stay tuned!! The real answer you’re lookin' for though is: It’s been delayed…delayed over and over again. But it’s a small team workin' on the game and they have to deal with irl stuff too can’t you be more understanding? Even if that is true…to not add as much as a wrench that was modeled and has existed in the game files for 2 years to replace the crowbar kinda says a bit (and no you can’t manually do it yourself because it’s missing certain viewmodel & worldmodel files) but either way you shouldn’t have to try and do it yourself because there’s really no reason that an update as small as replacing the crowbar with wrench shouldn’t already be implemented into the game i’ve gotten a fair point across for the moment i’ll get to the pros & cons.

UPDATED REVIEW AT THE BOTTOM:

It looks to be quite good. I have played around 40 minutes so far and I think that most haf life fans will enjoy this game and quite a lot of other people will too. For one person to have made this it is quite an achievement.

It is NOT a mod- it is standalone and does not require Half Life 2

The first chapter is very atmospheric and eerie- it reminded me of the feeling I got playing Ravenholm in HL2 for the first time.

The second has a lot of combat. The combat is okay but on normal difficulty I found the marines hard to kill with the SMG especially when they often have mounted machine guns. In HL2 you kill Cps first and by the time you are mass killing marines you have lots of ammo.

THIS GAME IS GREAT!!!!

I have no idea why the developers did not charge money for this game. This game is basically Half Life 2 with a few different mechanics. The game is even set in the same world. And with Valve not making HL3, this is as close as it gets. I have absolutly no complaints about the gameplay, story, or anything in the game. My only complaint is that the story is to short. It is only four chapters, but the chapters are GREAT. The engine is still the Source engine so no performance problems and a nice physics system. As I said above, this game is basically HL3 - YOU SHOULD BE DOWNLOADING THIS GAME RIGHT NOW!

The Source modding community is still very much alive and kicking since 1998. The community has produced many great mods over the years - from birthing the Counter-Strike and Team Fortress series, to creating many popular HL2 mods - including The Stanley Parable, Black Mesa, Minerva: Metastasis and a myriad of other well-designed mods. From this, we arrive at Transmissions: Element 120 - a standalone Half-Life 2 mod that focuses on showcasing several new Source technologies.

Cry of Fear

Cry of Fear

If you want terrifying jumpscares, paranoia at every step, and pure horror, then this game is for you.

Be careful, though, because this game deals with heavy subjects like suicide, depression, and self-harm. If these kinds of topics can make you upset or unstable, do not play this game.

Pros and Cons

Story/Character Pros:

-Terrifying game

-Simon’s a badass

-There’s guns and knives and sh*t

-Hallucinations/nightmare sequences are amazingly built and scary as hell

-Story has some deep sh*t, and the game depicts depression and mental illness well

Cry of Fear is simply the best Half-Life mod I have ever played, with the exception of Counter-Strike back in the day. This game shouldn’t even be classified as a mod in my opinion. The engine has been utilized so well that there is little resemblence to the look of Half-Life.

Story:

The story of Cry of Fear is worth experiencing for sure. I like the mystery aspects to the story and your character’s journey in figuring out what’s going on. There are many WTF moments, which I like in survival horror games. Plus, there are mutliple endings, so the replay value is decent. I don’t want to give anything away, so you willl have to check it out yourself. Definitely plays with the mind and is more of a psychological horror thriller than a straight up jump scare horror game, which in my opinion makes for a much more interesting experience.

Black Mesa

Black Mesa

After spending 30-some hours with Black Mesa I have to say I’m honestly impressed with the work Crowbar Collective did. Together with Mafia this is a shining example of how remasters should be made.

I am also honestly impressed how well Half Life has aged. Most games I played (and loved) in the 90ies would probably disappoint me today, even if they were given new graphics, so much has changed since then, but this old timer keeps me on the edge of my seat again, as if it was 1998 again, and please note that single playthrough takes more than 30h - it’s not an RPG game, it’s a single player shooter! They don’t make them that way any more….

I’ve been playing the original Half Life on and off since 1998 and it’s fair to say it’s one of my favourite games of all time. I remember manically talking about it to pretty much anyone who would listen when it came out. To me HL2 never felt as good as the original but Black Mesa does a fantastic job of bridging that gap and it actually helps me appreciate HL2 a little more.

I’ve just finished Black Mesa and the highest praise I can give it is that it does the original game justice and does an amazing job on building on top of what Valve achieved. It has some phenomenal set pieces and the levels are well designed, giving subtle clues as to what you are supposed to be doing without holding your hand. I think I only got stuck once during the game.

Forces of Corruption

Empire at War is a Real Time Strategy game on a galactic scale.

How you can play:

🔸 1 x Empire Campaign

🔹 1 x Rebel Campaign

🔸 1 x Zann Consortium Campaign [Forces of Corruption]

🔹 Galactic Conquest (sandbox on some or all of the ~70 systems)

🔸 Skirmish missions set on unique Ground or Space maps (many options)

What kind of RTS ?:

As there are many variants of RTS games, this is a brief overview:

🔸 Space looks 3D, (some units can pass over others) but expect 2D,

In my opinion, I would recommend that you should buy this game if your considering to buy it. The game is pretty fun, considering that its graphics and everything are like pretty old but I like it. Also, If your considering to buy it and not sure, well make sure that you want to spend $20 and also to make sure that you like Star Wars or you just wanna play this because it looks fun (Which it is). Some things I suggest though when you buy the game.

Suggestions -

  • EAW (Empire At War)

Once bought the game “STAR WARS™ Empire at War - Gold Pack”, you will see either EAW (Empire At War) or FOC (Forces Of Corruption). Since you have bought the game just now, your experience might not be the best. Consider that you load into Empire At War, have some practice or do the campaign if you want, it was pretty good in my opinion. Skirmish Battles or Galactic Conquest in #Single-Player is pretty much your options to practice in EAW (Empire At War)

Zombie Panic! Source

Zombie Panic! Source

This mod is a gem. Hell i wasnt even a fan of the whole zombie genre when i tried this game out of curiosity five years ago but it quickly won me over thanks to its gameplay and atmosphere. Its immersive, challenging (teamwork is a MUST) and above all, fun.

An interesting aspect of the game is that you actually can play as a zombie after you died. No bot slaughterfest à la Left 4 Dead here. Its very enjoyable to fight a zombie horde composed of other players trying to overwhelm you so you can join their ranks. Zombos can also infect you which really adds to the tension since it creates a climate of suspicion among the survivors.

Zombie Panic: Source changed my life. While that sounds dramatic, ZPS is what got me into map/level design with the Hammer Editor. I loved creating levels so much, that I looked further and realized there were schools for game design. I am now in my second year of 3D Animation & Modeling. I still remember my very first time playing this - Sunday, October 8th, 2008. Only Eugene and Marcus were available. It was on ZPO_Deadblock. I remember a guy exploiting the padlock on the fenced gate.

Bus Simulator 16

Bus Simulator 16

UPDATED (ALMOST 1year after release update)

Sadly, not much changed in a year. Optimization is still requested by many which implies they havent dealt seriously with the problem. Only 2 DLC have been released and I see them as pure money grabber. They are not offering anything new than buses but those buses look exactly the same as the ones already ingame. The only difference is that they are branded MAN or Mercedes-Benz which (due to having to pay the right to the brands) are ridiculously expensive for the amount of content (and the usefulness of the said content has still to be proven).

I seriously can not understand where the hate this game is getting comes from. It does exactly what it says on the “box”, and does it very well. While not a perfect game by any means, this is a great effort from a smaller company, that fills a niche I’ve personally desired for over 10 years.

When I was a young lass, back in my high school days, I used to take the public bus to commute to school and back, and also to travel from place to place on my weekends. I spent hundreds of IRL hours on various models of IRL busses, and I always wanted to try driving one. This game finally allowed me to live my fantasy. I honestly never thought a company would ever bother to make a bus driving game, but Bus Simulator 16 actually goes above and beyond that, and includes management and a bit of strategy as well.

Song Beater: Quite My Tempo!

Song Beater: Quite My Tempo!

Bought this game to get some fun alternative to BoxVR. And that’s exactly what I got. This is not “serious workout”, unless you try it only in impossible mode (or try some songs from Beat Saber), but that’s why it’s better. You can just let go, listen to the music, box your way and before you know it, you end up with sweaty T-shirt, but loving it. Many people compare this to Beat Saber, but I guess I see it more comparable to some boxing games, I tried other weapons once or twice, but in the end the boxing gloves were the right thing for me. About the songs: definitely more than I’m used to. Combine that with the fact that each song contain 5 different difficulty levels and you have several hours of playtime without repeating same song with same difficulty. It’s true that custom song support is not that great - many songs for Beat Saber simply have too many boxes for boxing game - but you occasionally can find a usable song. Or, do it like me and check “no fail”. But the best thing I see on this is the multiplayer possibility - actually seeing someone else playing it on your left / right, waving etc, that’s something I did not see in VR fitness games before, and definitely loving it.

This has been a full family go to game for many hours already .. Love the constant feature updates and the fact that it has not crashed since day one.

Punching dancing orbs at first did not seem like it would be a great thing. Once I got into it, and of course putting in a few ‘custom mod songs’ obtained from internet sources made the game all the better.

Best workout I’ve had in YEARS and I keep going back .

I cannot wait till it is finished.

One of the best titles in my entire VR library.

Estranged: The Departure

Estranged: The Departure

I don’t really review early access games but this time I am making an exception. The reason for that is that Estranged Act I is a great Half-Life 2 mod. I enjoyed every minute of it and when I saw the page for the second act was up and running I immediately jumped in to try it.

There are a couple of things you can notice immediately. First, the game looks superb. Way better than its predecessor - this is understandable as Unreal Engine 4 is responsible for making the 2nd act work. You’ll also notice that the game is incomplete. There are some puzzle sequences and a couple of enemies and in 30 minutes you are done. It was a bit disappointing as the menu allows us to launch several chapters but these are separated by a maximum of 5 minutes gameplay only.

Continuation of the fisherman’s adventures

Estranged: Act II is a continuation of Part One. As a young fisherman, we are walking on an island where there are zombies. Our goal, of course, is to escape from the island, and John helps us to do this, or rather the news he left behind in the form of tapes or radio recordings.

Compared to the first part it will take us a little more time to complete the game. Graphically it is as nice as in the previous part. When it comes to music, it’s very good again. When the action happens, the music becomes louder and more dynamic, and in the moments of exploration it is gentle and slow.
