I’ve got thousands upon thousands of hours invested in ARPG’s of all types, and I absolutely love Sci-Fi. Was looking for something that hit the spot in that department. I am about 8 or 9 hours in so far and this has not disappointed at all. I’d still be playing but I gotta sleep. So I can get up and play again tomorrow!

I did receive a copy to review, but am not being compensated for my thoughts. This is my personal honest opinion.

TLDR: Would I recommend? Yeah! I enjoyed my time very much. Love the aesthetic, the unique mechanics/features but the real gem is the story!

A decent game that can still have some polish

First about what is good

Game has a great visual style, has a lot fun smaller details in environment and character designs and overall decent though very repeatable combat, interesting initial plot and character design. Also looks like devs very inspired by Hyper Light drifter =)

Then what could be improved

I really wanted to finish this game but in the second half it gets like reeeeeeally boring

! Finishing Q-Dimention I thought that the game will be over and was surprised when saw absolutely same world but now green withsame stuff to do again And one of the reasons is that there is no character development in means of items or combat abilities and the story is same as in the first half but in different decorations. I mean items should be really redesigned and rebalanced. When Void gets the weapon type that is called torpid something or somehow like that you just have to stick with it because otherwise you don’t get enough resources unless you do the extra action trying to finish the enemy with the knife every time. So the game forces you to ether play with weapon you like and experiment with other weapons or get the precious resources so you can craft the organs that brake all damn time. Same with the flaming core and some organs that helps you farm essence and give health buff when you have particular nodes equipped. Without this synergy you just won’t be able to play normally and will die so player is forced to use items from mid game because the items you get later in the game are just not worth it. The game is ether not working properly or has not that good item description because when I equipped ancient core and had max essence I didn’t see any buff to damage so I don’t know guys, please think of more informative item descriptions. The fact that there are no sound effects for character speech doesn’t add to the atmosphere of the game. It would be great if you would add some speech imitation rumble like they used to do in older 8 and 16 bit games

El Shaddai ASCENSION OF THE METATRON HD Remaster

El Shaddai ASCENSION OF THE METATRON HD Remaster

Full review (including score): https://youtu.be/RejP5rwsb6o

Summarized review below!

It’s not often that we get obscure, decade-old Japanese action games ported over to PC – but it’s definitely a trend I can get behind.

Note: Trimmed review to fit character limit, check video for full version!

Story:

The title – El Shaddai – literally means “God Almighty” and it is also one of the names for the God of Israel. The game itself is inspired by the Book of Enoch and you yourself play as Enoch on a journey to save mankind by preventing the great flood. To do so, you will need to seek out seven fallen angels and enlist the help of Lucifel – and that’s just scraping the surface of the weirdness that goes on here.

Real player with 12.8 hrs in game

El Shaddai basically means Almighty God and this game has a heavy, but very stylized, theological theme running throughout.

The game is loosely based on apocryphal tales from Judeo-Christian biblical writings, but it’s purely as a backdrop and engine to drive a narrative. There’s no preaching or judgement and the story can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of denomination. You play the part of Enoch, a celestial scribe, (who also happens to be an immortal with ridiculous combat skills) tasked by God to venture to Earth and round up six fallen angels prior to the cleansing of the world by flood.

Unbalanced, slow and laggy trash.

Is this a bad game? I dont think so but it feels very rough. I personally would not recommend it based on other big title souls-likes and even smaller titles. It would of course be unfair to compare it to Dark Souls but even compared to the smaller titles I just feel as though it needs more polish.

My concerns are the lack of a proper roll, the lack of keyboard support, some poor telegraphs and bit unfair enemy tracking. Biggest thing is probably ranged enemies can hit you from off screen and you’ll have no idea where they are given the fixed camera.

Letande vs. crappy Russian RPGs! Round 999! FIGHT!!! Seriously, though. When it’s about crappy Russian (also, Ukrainian) role-playing games, I’m a freakin' veteran. I’ve played and finished pretty much everything there was – from Заклятие (Spells of Gold) to Талисман (Talisman, an RPG in Slavic setting from 2003, not to be confused with German point-and-click adventure from 1995 and Nomad Games' adaptation of Game Workshop’s tabletop game). To be honest, though, I didn’t expect any new games of the kind. I mean, something like that? It was possible only during the very certain time period. A period, when majority of the Russian people didn’t have access to Internet connection and it was possible to sell pretty much any crap to them for the price of proper products. Games like Орда: Северный Ветер (Horde: Northern Wind) were possible only because there was no YouTube to show people what they’ll actually get for their money. The more accessible Internet became – the less of such games we’ve got. The lest one of the kind I’ve played was, I believe, Ukrainian Заговор Тёмной Башни (Dark Tower Conspiracy, AKA Dungeon Quest) in 2006. After that? All those wannabe developers switched to mobile games. Which are not nearly as fun to suffer through.

Well, I have no idea who made English translation , but he must be executed.

For rest of the game - world and soundtrack combined are TASTY , pleasure for my eyes and ears for this price. Blood is shameful though, combat - found it funny, but only for 3 hours not more.

7/10 for Indie like that. Trash cause of translation, but good enough for that money and I still understood the story.

MY TIME ALIVE

MY TIME ALIVE

A valiant effort from Barty Games and by far his best game yet…

Right now at launch it’s a C- in my book but it could be a B+ or even an A… if he makes several pretty simple changes to his game.

SPOILER WARNING (Only watch about 30 minutes of this video if you don’t want to be spoiled of the story and how it all ends)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_iVvnVgDkk&t=82s

Brilliant end game gameplay however and I give Barty HUGE props for his creativity and open mind for the way the game changes things up the last part of this game!

To be honest the game is a bit too short. Other then that the graphics & the storyline are decent. Need a bit improvement in the hitbox section. By checking other game by Barty Games i can say it is way much improved then the other ones. would love to see the next game in the coming years.

Cross of the Dutchman

Cross of the Dutchman

This game caught my attention for several reasons. Firstly, is was an ARPG with controller support, so that meant that I had to give it a chance. I’ve enjoyed gaming for years, but I really do prefer to game with a controller, so that was an absolute plus for me. I was also fascinated by the historical fantasy aspect of this game, so I was pleased to find during gameplay that this concept was maintained throughout with clothing and architecture.

The soundtrack was good, and the graphics were very vivid and colorful. The one thing I have to say about this, though, is that the color saturation seemed a bit off to me. I must have walked past the carrot patch a dozen times during the prologue, because they looked like beets to me, and I noticed that “ruddy” color scheme throughout. I’m unsure if this was intentional, but it was definitely noticeable.

Overview

Cross of the Dutchman is the second game we see on Steam from Triangle Studios, from the Netherlands. In this game you will control a farmer and help him collect an army of fellow country men and fight off the Saxon invasion. It is a top-down fighting game with minor RPG elements. The game is based on a real story / local legend of Pier Donia, who’s tomb is actually located at a walking distance from the dev’s office building, hence the inspiration for the game.

I’m not sure I would call this an upgrade in any way (graphics and gameplay are just like the PS3 version), but it is still the same fun game with a great story.
