This is a charming casual puzzle game geared for kids. I think it’s meant to be played local co-op with the a parent to play with their child. Either can play the giant spirit using motion controllers to move objects or crank levers, while the other moves around the cute little Seeker around the puzzle level.

The game consists of 1 chapter and 20 levels. It took me approximately 2.5 hours to complete, but I did have to repeat several of the levels because I skipped out on collecting eggs early on (and then later the game didn’t properly record my egg finding). You can play the game perfectly fine seated or standing single-player or for local co-op the other person can control the seeker with a gamepad or KBM.

KILLING A SUPERSTAR

KILLING A SUPERSTAR

I highly recommend this product - but I need to first and foremost clarify that it is a experience and not much of a “game”. That isn’t a bad thing, you just need to know that going in.

I won’t retread the stuff that everyone else said - about the 5 viewpoints, 15 minutes long, etc., etc. - what I want to call out is the acting and execution of the story. You could hurry through the game and skim all the scenes to get the information you need in order to answer the 3 questions and “finish” the game, but that’s not really the best way to experience the content. I think the three questions are mainly there to give you a starting point for your investigation.

Like-able.

I love the presentation and I want to see more of this. There were parts of the story that didn’t gel for me.

Too short for the price (at under 60 minutes).

Nevertheless, recommended. Just get it on sale.

A Wake Inn

A Wake Inn

Very good exploration puzzle horror game…

Graphics are excellent, audio sfx are on point, performance takes a dip some times, but its not constant or overtly annoying (i have a 1080).

The ambience on this game is really well done, you feel the tension in every room and part of the building.

Story flows at a good pace, and while it was a bit confusing at first i got the gist of it and understood what what happening.

The inventory system is really cool, like no holsters or menus, you grab stuff and place it in your carry on, it has a few mechanics that make you think “hey thats pretty clever use of vr”.

This is one of the most atmospheric and immersive games I’ve played in VR. The environments are beautiful, eerie, and richly detailed. The ambient sounds are entrancing. The hotel feels expansive but the environments gently guide you in the right direction as you progress. The level of horror has been just right for me so far. It’s slow and creepy but punctuated by moments of intense action and unsettling discoveries.

As other reviewers have mentioned, your experience with this game might be spoiled by the awkwardness of the controls or by motion sickness. My will to progress in this game has often been at odds with my stomach. I settled upon using the joystick mounted on the wheelchair for movement in the game. I found this method to be immersive while allowing me to play short sessions with minimal discomfort. The comfort settings are helpful, but I would prefer that the game include an option for reduced FOV for all movement, not just turning.

Carly and the Reaperman - Escape from the Underworld

Carly and the Reaperman - Escape from the Underworld

Review changed to positive after returning to finish the game.

Our initial few hours in the game were plagued by controller issues: the PC player’s controller would periodically stop working.

What we managed to play we loved though, and after returning a few months later controller problems seemed resolved, and we got through several worlds worth of excellent levels.

Another break happened when my headset needed warranty repair (not this games fault!), and when we came back again our progress was stuck. New worlds wouldn’t open up, and the hub NPC’s dialogue was back at the start of the game. Our progress was all saved; every level we entered correctly showed all the collectable fireflies were still caught, but we had to play through every (now empty) level again in order to advance the story.

My wife asked to write the review for this one:

“Carly and the Reaperman is even more fun than the trailer suggests! I had the happiest of times playing with my husband. His platforming skills made him the best choice for Carly and I played as the Reaperman. With its beautiful art style, increasingly elaborate level design and a seemingly simple, yet very poignant narrative, Carly delivers one of the most creative VR experiences that I have ever played.

That being said, it does have some flaws. Several glitches in the game resulted in lost progress, forcing us to repeat some of the most difficult levels. In one instance, we found a way to cheat through some pixel perfect platforming just to avoid having to repeat the entire puzzle for a 2nd time.

Pipe Dreamin' VR: The Big Easy

Pipe Dreamin' VR: The Big Easy

A clever combination of VR puzzle games and VR climbing games.

I was a fan of the old 2D puzzlers Pipe Mania and Pipe Dream, and this is a worthy VR successor. If you can tolerate a few minor imperfections and you are driven by steam achievements then it’s a fun 2.5 hours of 3D puzzling. For some strange reason it started as a slide show and I had to turn my SteamVR resolution down to 1700 x 1700 before my RTX 3060ti would make 90 fps on my Vive Pro 2, yet it still looked full resolution.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Most of the time writting reviews is quite easy. You point out the strong and bad points of the title, sum everything up and giving a final judgement at the end. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes doesn’t have strong or bad points… It’s great game all throughout which makes writting review of it extremely difficult.

Uniqueness of the game doesn’t really help either. The concept of trading information between the manual-wielding “Expert” and bomb interacting “Defuser” with the constant pressure of timed exploding device is as silly, fun, exciting as you could imagine. The constant shouts, the struggle to correctly describe the contents of many different types of bombs and that tension when the timer runs out and there is that one one wire to cut… It’s a great, original idea for the game that focuses on good communication, reading comprehenion and quick thinking and analysis. You rarely see something like that on the market and I’m extremely happy that it works like the charm.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

A little game where you and your friends are disarming bombs.

This is a co-op game that puts you, the player, alone in a room with nothing but a bomb, and sometimes an annoying alarm clock. You must disarm the bomb before the timer on said bomb runs out. How ever, you have no manual. In comes the co-op mechanic as your friends have a manual that they can use to instruct you on how to disarm the bomb. This is a game where your friendships will either solidify, or very likely yourself, blow up to pieces.
