ARMORED HEAD

ARMORED HEAD

This game was my go in blind purchase of the week. It is so cheap and the content that it delivers is well worth the asking price. I am having a lot of fun with this frantic arena FPS. You get to double jump, bullet time slo-mo kill vast swathes of tin robot armies which come in a variety of fun shapes and sizes. You get an arsenal of 9 guns, some of which you can dual-wield and all of which have weight and a distinct feel to them. Once you are done working out all the little secrets the game has to offer and self-tutor yourself in the primary and secondary functions of each gun and survive all 30 waves and boss fights, you then get a little something extra. Don’t want to spoil anything, you will have to get there yourself. Bear in mind that the game MUST BE BEATEN IN ONE SITTING. But there are 3 checkpoints along the way which you can start from when you inevitably die on your run.

Armored Head is a fluid, fun and well-realized indie shooter developed solely by Egor Rezenov in Unity. Taking the role of a gladiator bot, you have to prove your worth against waves of opponents consisting of various bots. It is clear that Egor took his time to polish both the aesthetic and mechanic sides of his game, thus Armored Head provides around three hours of enjoyment for those interested in the genre.

Even though it is a wave-based shooter that takes place in a single arena designed for the purpose, it does not go on forever. The goal is to survive for 30 rounds and face the final boss, after which you are granted a prize and are free to explore or leave the premises. The arsenal for the task at hand consists of ten weapons which are presented to you gradually at the start of specific waves. You collect coins throughout the game which are either dropped by defeated opponents or found within the boxes scattered around, then use them at your will to unlock various helpful features of the arena. While most of the opponents are melee-only fighters of varying size and strength, there are also ranged shooters, fliers and droppers, as well unique bosses. Your abilities extend to dodge-jumping, double-jumping and slowing the action down for a brief amount of time; but further collecting in the form of pills is required to gain the necessary energy for utilizing them.

Putrefaction

Putrefaction

Update 12/09/17

Back when I first wrote this review, Putrefaction was priced at $5. The price is now $1.

While the game is a better value at this price, the cons I mention below still prevent me from wholeheartedly recommending Putrefaction to anyone but FPS fans with lowered expectations who are desperate for something to burn a few hours on. Most others will likely be disappointed.

Summary (TL;DR):

Putrefaction gets a C for effort and a D for execution. It isn’t a completely awful game, it just never comes close to scratching the old-school shooter itch it claims to scratch. Aside from that, I honestly found it to be unremarkable and somewhat lacking in almost every other important element as well. Despite its $1 pricetag, the minuses outnumber the plusses here so it’s a difficult game for me to recommend.

I was really hoping to enjoy this game despite what the negative reviews had to say about it. Unfortunately they were quite right.

The AI is basically complete rubbish, even on the highest difficulty level. If you find a higher spot you can jump up to, or some boxes to jump behind, the melee guys got nothing on you (save for the first boss which has an impressive reach on his swing). Ranged units feel cheap. I’ve had them not even try to find me at times, then shoot me the instant they can see me, including through walls at times. And many of the baddies can run faster than you. Considerably faster. And when it comes to the exploding baddies, that really sucks.

OVERVIEW: an interesting 8bit shooting game, which has its ups and downs, great to play in those 5 minutes breaks in the middle of the day (I say that but I stayed 3 hours in a row after work)

REVIEW:

Let me start by saying two things: 1) my congratulations to the 3 involved in the game … 2) the game is not made for people who only look at the graphics.

It resembles old arcade games, and for me this is a really cool thing, it brought me old memories of playing in old arcades or old video games with friends. The game is simple and easy to play, the weapons and enemies are not innovative, but considering that it was done by three people … it was a good job, in my opinion.

Really fun platform shooter! I think it is really fun to play it, even more with the amazing retro soundtrack, that make me feels back into Castlevania times, I had a really good time playing this game. It is astounding to see that a indie company made this game, it is incredible, really recommend it

Mustache in Hell

If you like challenges , Mustache in Hell is the game .

Simple and challenging gameplay, high level of bosses and minions everywhere .

A good nostalgia from 80’s games, If you do not know this game-style. I will recommend because I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Fine game for an evening. It might seem difficult because of small rooms and big enemy hordes - in most cases you just need to save more lives and tank through. Some rooms have infinite enemies spawn (until you defeat the boss) - a very bad design choice. Weapons seem very weak (even flamethrower).

Recommended buying when on sale.

Ok this game is very hyper, it takes u a few rounds before you match with the AI speed in 1 level but its pretty addictive.

you can slice or trow with your sword, u can use a gun and bombs, but speed is the toughest weapon here

A good game so far.

Positives:

  1. Fast paced, if you have 5 minutes spare you could play a game of this.

  2. Fun, this game’s really enjoyable.

  3. Skill-based, this game requires a fair bit of skill for how simple it is.

  4. It has a nice, minimalistic style.

  5. Good level design, allows for strategies.

Negatives:

  1. When loading a map, the sound can be very load.

  2. No online multiplayer, although hut90 have mentioned this as a possibility.

  3. The bots are too good at firing bullets, they hit shots that the vast majority of players would miss.

Playing this game feels like you’re on a 90 degree day and you’re sitting on the toilet trying to force out a shit that is having a really hard time coming out and all you can feel is sweat running down your face and back as you try with every fiber of your muscles to force this hunky turd out of the backside of your anus. What I’m trying to say is that this game sucks and if you like it YOU suck. 0/10

bug #1 everytime you go into the weapon table to buy a weapon or ammo or even just look if you can buy a weapon the teleporter charge resets

bug #2 the plasma rifle does not reload it only plays the animation i even bought more ammo and it still didnt reload meaning i was stuck with no guns.

bug #3 with the shotgun most stuff goes down in one shot 2 if unlucky but with the fire ball throwing zombies half the time they dont take damage

Defendoooooor!!

Defendoooooor!!

Defendoooooor!! is the first game since joining Steam back in 2009 that I’ve ever played through in one go. It took approximately 1hr 25 minutes from start to finish. I would have liked to have seen more levels, with increasing difficulty, or with different difficulty modes. Apart from my initial foray into the game a couple of days ago, where I only survived a few levels; once I’d got used to the rhythm of the game it was relatively easy to survive virtually every wave. The only ones I did lose were when I was trying out the extra weapon systems that included a barrage of rockets or bombs. These were activated by two buttons along the top of the game arena.

The Short of it: Perfect mindless fun. Almost like Space Invaders turned on it’s side, it’s an arcade shooter, with escalating difficulty. Good gun variety, and sound effects made me LOL. I paid $1.30, so 90% off.

I would say it is priced WAY too high at regular price. I wouldn’t pay more than $2 for this personally, but I was pleased with it at the $1.30 I paid for it on sale, as I said.
