Lucky me gets to write the first review for CUBE-e 2, which is a 2D retro pixel puzzle platformer/shooter from known asset flippers, Piece of Voxel. This is a basic retro pixel shooter/platformer game where you guide a robot over various platforms on some planet, dodging spinning blades and shooting robots that float from the sky before they can shoot you. Ho hum.

They chose to use obsolete retro pixel “art” as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It’s unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. There’s also an insulting $10 USD price tag for this garbage. Yeah, $10, the same money that would get you one of hundreds of AAA games on sale. Or this trash.

I, W.O.M.A.N.

I, W.O.M.A.N.

I, W.O.M.A.N. is a Twin-Stick Arena Shooter with a Sci-Fi theme and story. With a quick-to-start design, you can start blasting robots within seconds of loading the game. Use a variety of futuristic weapons and power-ups to fight rampaging robots using your keyboard or game controller.

Start by customizing your Weaponized Operational Military Android Network (W.O.M.A.N.) character. Your task is ensuring the safety of the humans kept aboard the spacecraft in suspended animation. Unfortunately, a computer virus of unknown origin, for now known as The Malware, is taking over the ship’s service bots. As a W.O.M.A.N., you are independent of this ship’s internal network, and you operate autonomously, which allows you to fight off this intruding threat. Your only hope of saving the humans in stasis is to repel the rogue robots from that section of the ship, then work your way to the Bridge to reboot the Central Computer, which will theoretically purge The Malware.

Hard Glide

This is an arcade-style inertial skill-shooter with mouse control only. You have to go through several dozen arenas, collecting orbs, destroying enemies, dodging various obstacles. Power-ups and various modifiers are included!

The game offers to pass the levels as quickly as possible (to get into the online leaderboard), although this is not necessary.

DRONE The Game

DRONE The Game

One hell of a game. Although still a prototype, I think you’ll enjoy the public release. I was a backer for this project and I can say that the money I spent was more than worth it. If you paid mind to the game’s info, you likely saw the 12 backer tiers. I started out at Tier 2 (“Traveler”) when I first heard of the game. When they released the multiplayer demos I couldn’t wait, so I bumped up to Tier 3 (“Explorer”) a few months later. Last year I decided to upgrade to Tier 4 (“Operator”), and as of 2 July 2019 I ended up upgrading to Tier 5 (“Engineer”) because this game really has turned out so well. If you needed proof for how much these guys delivered, here you go.

This game showed significant promise in its early stages, and the main draw for me was being able to build and fly my own little fighting drones in the editor - with the hope of eventually being able to create land-based units with tank treads or mechanical legs.

However, development on this title unfortunately seems to have slowed to a complete halt: there hasn’t been an update, not even a bugfix, in over a year, and there’s been no word on how development is progressing in about 6 months.

They succeeded in their promise of delivering a functional drone editor, but even then a good portion of its features and place-able parts are unfinished, and at the moment users are restricted to basic cubes which they can cut into other shapes, as opposed to the totally freeform shapes seen in prebuilt designs. There’s also the slight issue of players being able to min-max their builds to obscene effectiveness by just putting a bunch of wings or something.

Would love to try this game but seams how its Local Multi only i can;t really. I would suggest that the Dev’s add the ability to play other people from all over. Keeping this a local lan will just hurt the game in the long run.

Gemini: Binary Conflict

Gemini: Binary Conflict

Welcome to Gemini! A binary planet system orbiting a red dwarf host star. You join us in the midst of a skirmish between the inhabitants of two worlds who are on the brink of all out war.

The Avians (an enlightened bird-like species) occupy the original homeworld, with their distant cousins, the Trivexians (an aggressive reptile species) inhabiting its twin. Both planets originally had temperate climates with resources to spare, and while the Avians had the foresight to maintain and protect their biosphere, the Trivexians were careless and greedy, reducing their world to an arid, almost lifeless desert.

As resources diminished, the Trivexians became envious of their Avian cousin’s world, with its tantalising oceans and luscious purple vegetation. Following a number of incursions to take back what they believed was rightfully theirs, the fighting ensued. Join the battle, pick a side, fight for a cause, and destroy the enemy.

‘Gemini: Binary Conflict’ is a multiplayer, class based, first person shooter set in an exotic environment with a bold visual style. In-game you will find some unconventional weaponry, equipment, armour, class roles and modes. The game aims to provide a subtle mixture of mechanics both familiar and unusual to create a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

Features:

  • Player class system, with an array of unusual weaponry and abilities, making each class truly unique.

  • A variety of PvP gamemodes up to 16 players, ranging from Free-for-all to our flagship mode, ‘Warpath’; push enemy lines aided by an army of AI droids, deploy support structures and strategise with your team to take down and capture enemy bases.

  • Co-op gamemode ‘Holdout’; up to 5 players stranded in enemy territory survive increasingly difficult waves of hostiles and boss encounters, whilst activating defences and power-ups to aid the completion of the objective: successfully repair the base.

  • XP / Unlock system, allowing players to level up their classes, unlock armour cosmetics and weapon / equipment sidegrades as they progress in-game.

  • Player customisation system, allowing expressive variety in-game. Players can choose any colour for armour and weapons, as well as individually swap armour pieces acquired in class progression.

  • Armour destruction system. Armour is not only customisable, but it actually protects individual parts of your body, both functionally and visually destructible, allowing for an extra layer of depth in combat.

  • An array of maps featuring visually bold and unique environments.

  • Fully fledged bot support. Bots capable of competing alongside you as if they were real players, taking objectives, using equipment, customising themselves, and taking advantage of their individual class strengths, on any gamemode.

OMFG: One Million Fatal Guns

OMFG: One Million Fatal Guns

It really is a lot of fun! My favorite part would definitely be the movement mechanics, and any gun with “Party-Time” (because I like confetti) or “Recoiling” because it gives me the ability to fly, which is pretty awesome and pretty hilarious.

The only thing that really throws me off is that it makes my computer heat up like crazy, even more than Destiny 2 does… and I can’t figure out why. I tried avoiding any weapon with the adjective “Spider Queen’s” which certainly helped, but did not solve the problem at all. For reference: I have an Omen laptop, and I use a cooling stand with one big fan in it. I know that laptops are notorious for overheating, but something about OMFG makes my laptop get really hot in the space of half an hour. This doesn’t detract too much from the experience, though.

(EDIT) read post below for last review. also hi from the current 1st place spot BLU (weird flex i know)

i enjoyed this game for what it tried to do and what it did. i though the whole “every gun is unique” thing would be a thing in here but soon found out that no. not every gun is “unique” i don’t understand the point of auto pickup in the game if you can find something that’s fun to use and can one shot and not a $&#&#$^ revolver for the love of god please can i get something that does damage.
