Swarmlake

Swarmlake

This is a very frustrating game. Within 20 minutes of buying the game, I had achieved a high score of over 2,300, and I had learned a couple of techniques which allow me to survive the chaos for quite some time. But after achieving the 2,300 score, it feels like the game isn’t giving me correct scores any more. I’m surviving for even longer now than I did before. I’m finding more of the red/pink explosive bombs which clear nearby enemies. I regularly double back and circle around at ground level to pick up all the green shards to increase my score. And yet after a game lasting a few minutes, the game claims I have only scored “234” or “512”. Absolutely nowhere near the scores I was getting earlier.

UPDATE: 12/30/2018 THE JUMPENING

Shotgun blast?! Pfffft what shotgun blast?! If you were using that ol' thing for anything other than jumping I pity you. Seems Dom realized that and now there’s a jump button and the shotgun blast has been removed completely. You no longer have to aim at the ground or the pink bubbles to jump off them and your shots no longer richochet off the ground. This is much better, game seems to be much faster as far as the swarms spawn rate and it feels you get rewarded for riskier tactics. You could get pretty far in the past by just strafing diagonally and mainintaining as much vertical velocity as possible. Now the Triangle pyramid enemies that fly in straight lines spawn in these massive vertical towers so that tactic doesn’t seem to work too well any more.

Pretty decent arcade twin-stick shooter game. It is minimalist and there is not a lot of content : 4-5 hours should be enough to get all of the achievements, and then, you are only left with leaderboards.

Still, I really enjoyed these 5 hours, it was fun, fun enough for me to recommend you to give it a try !

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

one of the best games ever made. while other games may earn that title by being completely unique, masterfully designed, or progressive for video games as a medium, unreal tournament earns it by being a metric sh*t ton of fun. ut99 doesn’t care about perfectly fine tuning and balancing everything for competitive play, or having a complex story, or even just making sense in general. all it cares about is letting you play whatever you want and do whatever you want within the confines of the game engine.

This is my

–————- FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME —————–

Nothing else even comes close.

Absolutely gorgeous aesthetic, brilliant weapon design, fast-paced and satisfying action.

The BOTS in this game are GENUINELY INTELLIGENT! And you can let their difficulty AUTO-ADJUST to fit EXACTLY at your skill level! Bots should be standard in FPS imo. ESPECIALLY MULTIPLAYER! The player should NEVER be slave to what others want to play. No players, no game in multiplayer gaming. This is why I can still play Unreal Tournament when and how I want FOREVER! And I have done exactly that so far.

Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor’s Choice Edition

I have like 3000 hours on this game.

14 years later I’m still playing it with my friends, and “online friends” from the UT community, and other people I don’t know of course.

There are still people on the servers (not as much as there was years ago of course, but still, the community is undying and newcomers are frequent).

For serious gaming I especially recommend Team Arena Master mod, or iCTF, which are the best mods according to me.

Beginners may have a bad time when joinning some servers though, many people are already experienced. But as the gameplay is very simple to understand (and at the same time incredibly rich) you can quickly become a good competitor :)

Sit down, son. You just stumbled upon the page of the best shooter ever made. Pay some respect.

Before the days of shooters that holds your hand and aim for you, that regenerate your health and show you what to do like a baby, there was this. Unreal Tournament 2004 - the most brutal, adrenalin-fueled shooter since Quake 3 Arena, a game so fast-paced its guaranteed you’ll burn your eyes from not blinking for so long. They say we only use 20% of our brains - well, if you play this game on the hardest difficulty, you’ll be using 100% i assure you. Holy hell son, this game uses so much of your brain it pretty much even cures autism. This game is filled with so much testosterone you have to shave your beard every forty minutes of gametime.

Ratz Instagib

Ratz Instagib

What can I say about Ratz Instagib? Well it is a railgun, instagib multiplayer shooter which incorporates the rocket-jumping mechanic familiar to Quake and Team Fortress 2.

The game is surprisingly simplistic; move around and shoot, however a combination of rocket-jumping and the 1-hit-kill railgun create an intense, competitive environment where timing and precision is your key to success.

Not only does Ratz bring back great memories of Quake II railgun battles and Unreal Tournament’s instagib mode, it has its own merits—primarily the level of customization which creates a very level playing field and a very personal experience—you are free to individualise almost all aspects of the game from the colour of your railgun beam to the colour of your name, team mates and enemies.

What an awesome game. Old school insta-gib action. Start the game and and start playing, no long load times, no BS.

Positives:

-Gameplay is awesome, lag free smooth as hell action. Quick movements like in the old school shooters and if you’re a fan of those you will love this game. You can sort of “rocket jump” too with the booster thingy of the gun.

-Bright and colorful cartoony graphics, which are decent. You can spot enemies easily. The default enemy color works best against almost all the maps but if it doesn’t work you can always change the enemy colors from the options menu.

This game is just art.

The developers manage to encapsulate this by grinding my RTX 2080TI into dust with stunning 4k graphics which sadly cause my pc to run the game at -14 FPS. I am sure this could be a lack of NVIDIA driver support for this stunning game. I hope to save up £40,000 to buy a nasa super computer in the hopes I can run a stable 30 fps.

Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball

Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball

Easily game of the year. This game has so much more to it than meets the eye. I began playing this game in beta, and it was amazing! It has easy mechanics, easy objectives, and unfathomable entertainment. There are so many things that I love about this game.

First off, unlike most other fps games, it’s balanced. All players are equal, and when you die, there’s no excuses. The other player was either better than you, or was able to use the map and powerups better than you. It’s straight forward hit or miss gameplay. Also, the powerups are balanced. The big balls will help you hit more robots, but they are so much easier to see, and unlike the homing and laser, you can’t hide having the powerup. When you’re holding a ball, it’s always big and noticable. The homing is amazing against bots at long range, but is so much harder to use close up. Also, when you lose it, you’re so used to seeing the tracker that it disorientates you for a moment. Laser is fast and great for ricochets, but it messes up the way you’re used to playing, being the ball has no drop. Jetpack is great for capturing points or swooping in like an eagle, but you can lose vertical momentum, making yourself an easy target. Pogo is good for navigation, but if you fumble, you’re an easy midair target. Super boost is great for hit and runs, but really hurts your finger pressing shift. I find that when you use superboost, you start going in a lap pattern, which makes you a predictable target. You also get disorientated in close combat. The balance in this game makes it such a more entertaining game because you’re just as capable as the rest of your team to achieve the objectives.

Flashy Arcade-Style Fun!

An Early Access game that graduated with flying colours.

Let me start this review off by saying I’ve got 97 games on Steam and this is my most played game. If that doesn’t peak your interest, feel free to read on.

Intro:

This game is special. When I say “special” I don’t mean mentally handicapped, I mean it’s genuinely unique and a real diamond in the rough. For the price, this may be the best value you can find on Steam. It may be pretty simple in concept but trust me when I say that this game can entertain for hundreds of hours. Did I mention it’s one of the (very) few games that’s done Early Access right and actually seen a solid release?

What The Box?

What The Box?

I’m taking 10 minutes to write suggestions because I LOVE this game. Get it, have fun.

Here’s some suggestions to devs:

• when in 1st person and ‘anti-camping’ is on, make the circle at the center into any eye to show that you have Fragile tags on your box. In some 3rd person camera views you can’t see your box. The eye would help in all views.

• Seems like 90% of knife-on-knifes result in double-kills… work on those odds? Maybe double-kills could instead be knife clashes that result in sparks and no kills?

Real player with 254.7 hrs in game

Online community is quite dead but playing with your friends or family is perfectly possible. It is great fun playing a box and hiding amongst other boxes or hopping around trying to find and kill your opponents or do your other task. It is great fun and definitely reccomend it even for complete noobs. It is a great way to build your gaming confidence and just have some fun. My (60y/o non-gamer-until-COVID-month 3) mother and I play it quite often and it is a joy to see her flourish and even beating me fair and square quite a few times.

Defendoooooor!!

Defendoooooor!!

Defendoooooor!! is the first game since joining Steam back in 2009 that I’ve ever played through in one go. It took approximately 1hr 25 minutes from start to finish. I would have liked to have seen more levels, with increasing difficulty, or with different difficulty modes. Apart from my initial foray into the game a couple of days ago, where I only survived a few levels; once I’d got used to the rhythm of the game it was relatively easy to survive virtually every wave. The only ones I did lose were when I was trying out the extra weapon systems that included a barrage of rockets or bombs. These were activated by two buttons along the top of the game arena.

The Short of it: Perfect mindless fun. Almost like Space Invaders turned on it’s side, it’s an arcade shooter, with escalating difficulty. Good gun variety, and sound effects made me LOL. I paid $1.30, so 90% off.

I would say it is priced WAY too high at regular price. I wouldn’t pay more than $2 for this personally, but I was pleased with it at the $1.30 I paid for it on sale, as I said.
