Hunting Unlimited 1

Hunting Unlimited 1

This game is the very first Hunting Unlimited, and I have to say it’s one of my favorites, I love to recurve hunt grizzlies, and do the endless amount of missions. I have played alot of the missions and I’m not even close to being done, I do without a doubt recommend this game, another thing is that it is old and runs good on old computers.

I got this title in the Trophy Collection Complete bundle at 33% off. So I paid $6.69 USD, and it was pretty much one of my best purchases on Steam. I remember seeing the box in stores way back in the day, but figured I just wouldn’t be any good at it. I wish I hadn’t waited. Because I’m terrible at it, but I’m getting better.

With a target range to help you practice after failed hunts, the trophy room, and some bucks that randomly flee over nothing, what’s not to love? Seriously though, they even lay down and graze and this game is from 2001. The game even has me looking up videos on whatever I’m using in the hunt, and honestly you can apply real world tips in the game.

VR Plant Journey

VR Plant Journey

In this virtual reality adventure, you’ll explore the inner workings of a canola plant from root to flower. What does canola need to thrive optimally? Learn about the processes in plant cells, playfully help it grow, and become an excellent plant scientist.

LEARNING CAN TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE AND AT ANY TIME

Together with plant researchers:inside the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research, Breakpoint One and Simmation have created a high-quality educational experience. VR Plant Journey “Die Reise in die Pflanze” teaches children biological knowledge in a playful way. Thanks to fully immersive virtual reality (VR), players:inside are completely immersed in the inner workings of a canola plant, experience the events up close and can even control them.

EDUTAINMENT MEANS ENTERTAINING LEARNING

In three chapters - root, leaf and seed - you test out how an optimum of nutrients must be regulated for the development of plant organs.

The unusual learning unit is lightened up by playful elements.

In the leaf, for example, chloroplasts are thrown with the basic substances of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water; in the root, ammonium and nitrate, important plant nutrients, have to be assembled; and in the seed, oil bodies have to be hit with a bow and arrow so that they grow.

The high-quality implementation of the concept is reflected in several internationally renowned awards and nominations:

Sky Sanctuary is a beautiful archipelago where you can play all kinds of different Samurai mini games. As the game is in early access, there are only a few things to do at the moment.

  • Japanese wood cutting (Tameshigiri)

  • Bow and arrow skill training (Kyudo with 3 modes)

  • and there is a sandbox zone where you can use/try out several Samuari weapons like Shurikens and smoke screen balls.

When I first saw this game I couldn’t help thinking of similar sword slicing VR titles like Fruit Ninja or Katana X, and wondering what would make this game stand out from its competitors. But actually, Sky Sanctuary is probably the more padded out game of the three by presenting itself as a tongue-in-cheek samurai and ninja training game. So whereas chopping things with a katana is an element of all three games, that’s just one component of Sky Sanctuary’s full experience, also offering the ability to walk around the small floating island, shoot a bow, and mess with ninja type goodies like smoke bombs, shurikens and fire staffs. Both the sword and bow experiences are essentially ranked mini-games, with the option to also just mess around the island with them.

The End of Dyeus

The End of Dyeus

It’s a quaint little game. No handholding, no restrictions save for what you can accomplish with the gear and upgrades you find. Simple, but not entirely straighforward. Graphics/animations are a big seller for me as I’m a sucker for this style. The combat is.. Adequate. Melee consists of blocking and attacking, learning your opponents' moves, and making sure the shield you have blocks more damage than your adversary dishes out. Simple and generally not rewarding. Same goes for the bow; keep a good stock of arrows and kite. The crossbow allows for a shield, but it’s the same taste as both; kite, block if your foe gets too close, then shoot. Locations are lackluster, and the land is a bore between areas minus the ever-weakening mobs you encounter thanks to your gear. There are shops, but they’re rather redundant save for artifacts that I won’t spoil abilities/tweaks for. The story is sort of clíched, but semi-original. Still, most of it is learned through books ala Dark Souls. Oh, and keys are rebindable. Though, as much as I’m loathe to say this, Dyeus could have benefited greatly from mod support, though for nearly being out a month with hardly any Community Hub activity, I doubt that could have taken the game to greater heights.

Overall it was a pretty nice experience, it was fun having to figure out where to go next and getting brutally murdered because I went somewhere that was way over my head.

Figuring out which weapons work best for each enemy, which ones to engage in melee or ranged was also nice.

The melee was usually fine but there were some particular enemies that were a patience game, where you are both attacking and blocking and it takes quite a while to actually get a hit on them.

If you’re like me and struggled at the end one bit of advice:

Literally the best speed running game I’ve played in the last 5 years. The feeling of collecting a fruit’s soul is similar to that of sex, I’ve had no better gaming experience in any other game. It massively tops anything else in existence.

Northern Journey

Level design, music and art style absolutely on point: every area is distinct, looks great, has its own unique vibe. They are mostly quite vertical, which is also very nice. Sometimes progression is a bit confusing, but nothing too frustrating here. A lot of areas have little unique mechanics made just for them, lots of nice touches.

Combat is sadly not so great, although 95% of the time at least tolerable. Some enemy attack animations are way off actual attack hitboxes, melee enemies tend to stick to you on contact, hitting repeatedly. Some boss arenas consist of series of narrow bridges/pieces of land with instant drown pits inbetween which is also annoying. It’s generally alright as long as you don’t focus on it too much - imo combat here is just to act as intermissions between exploration and exploration, which is the actual main focus of the game.

This is a very memorable game that deserves more recognition. It’s extremely strange in a charming way with a lot of variety and surprises, as well as some unexpected humor. This is a very impressive game to have been made by one person, and without reusing almost any content through its full 10-15 hour length; every area has its own unique enemies, hazards and music. There’s a lot of rough edges, but also a lot of smart design like enemies having clear sound cues to let you know when they’re offscreen or health pickups being placed strategically on walkable ledges to let you know where you can go. It gives you just enough information to understand its mechanics and know how to deal with its more esoteric hazards without ever holding your hand. Some of the levels work better than others, and I thought the last third or so of the game was weaker than the rest due to some annoying encounters and gimmicks that went on for too long, but it’s overall a good experience backed up by an evocative and memorable soundtrack. (The soundtrack even comes with the game, it’s just included next to its files, and this is a soundtrack I would have been willing to pay for separately.)

Excellent fluidity in the locomotion; though the control implementation needs some work: (1) Vive control touchpads are activated with touch, not click, so there are a lot unwanted triggers; (2) the Index controllers do not have thumb stick integration; and (3) the bow is very difficult to use… I spent 10 minutes ‘pressing A/X near the bow’ with nothing happening.

I do like the scale of the world (is it procedurally generated generated?).

The enemy detail / animation is quite nice.

I would like to see some sort of XP / level system, even in this early stage, it would provide a sense of accomplishment (and give reason to hunt).
