Dire Vengeance

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.
|
Is this game a masterpiece? No, but it is a fine time-waster for anyone who likes the genre. It plays fast and satisfying, the visual presentation is good and magic spells and bossfights require a bit of thought during the mayhem.
It is a platformer on speed. You play a heroine with a long reaching sword which she can use very skilled (and fast), slicing through weak enemies like pudding while guitar riffs provide the musical background. There is no stamina bar, so you can slash as much as you want. You can also use a magic weapon (only one of the 20 that can be found can be equipped), as long as you still have magical energy (which regenerates over time). Killing enemies and destroying the picturesque environements (hanging corpses, gloomy lightsources) often yields you pickups. The sword can be used fast and has a far reach, so it is not too difficult to defeat your foes, also you can (double, later triple) jump rather far, which makes the platforming a joy. So, with a little bit of training, you slice through the levels quite fast - until you reach the boss at the end, where a little more concentration is necessary. With enough pickups, you can upgrade your heroine’s powers, when you die (you start with only one life but quite a few health points) you restart at the last checkpoint (without the upgrades). Game progress is saved when you complete one of the eight stages.

Howard Phillips Lovecar
Howard Phillips Lovecar is one of those games where you can feel yourself getting better at it every time you play it, and there’s a lot of nuance in its controls and the way the different mechanics interact with one another. It reminds me of playing flash shmups on the internet when I was younger. The controls should appeal to fans of shmups looking for something new. You can only fire your shotgun out of the left side of the car and the tommygun from the right. Combined with the way driving works, you have lots of options for dealing with threats. You can circle around targets, do figure 8s in front of them, or just sit still in a blind spot and hold down the fire button. The different eldritch horrors are all instantly recognizable, and all of them have slightly different arrangements of tentacles and spikes, so there are subtleties to approaching one covered in tentacles as opposed to one with spikes that spawns homing drones. The atmosphere, (cultist yells, washed out color palette) especially when you’ve taken some damage and the darkness closes in, add atmosphere to a suprisingly tactical shooty arcade game.

You are driving through the wastelands in your pickup truck and you are trying to stop those nasty cultists are trying to summon old gods. Gods with tentacles.
At first glance game reminds me of the good old GTA, but with a lot more arcade feel. Each play is very short and intensive. Also developer promises to update the game with new features during the early access so big thumbs up from me!

Musashi vs Cthulhu
Highly addictive game with a simple concept where timing is crucial for high scores. I’m not very good 285 is my highest score thus far but I can’t stop playing. I love the art style there’s a lot going on fog, torches, hanging bodies, great attention to detail. It’s a pity i die when I stare at the scenery. The audio is well done also music and ambient sounds really add a lot to the atmosphere. I’m having a great time with it and I can’t wait for more content. Good job devs Recommend

i have to say, that of all the games i have played that share this very same concept, and that been on a mobile gaming platform, playing this game in particular with a controller rather then tapping on a screen took me like 30 minutes to get use to it, but in no time at all natural progression finally kicked in and i was tapping away like a semi pro, and the funny thing about a game like this is, that it is so simple in design and game play but can be real challenging also, and is the reason why you find yourself going again and again until you get that high kill rank score and then once you get a high score your always challenging yourself to beat it, plus having an online ranking board to compete against other players makes the game even more worth while to play, and this game compared to all the others like it has that real unique spin on it where your not just tapping left and right all the time in certain tap sequences, you have to tap up, down, left, and then Y, B, A that is with the controller though, and i really like this method of control and that’s what makes this game more enjoyable to play is the unique control style plus when you get to the monsters with the extra marked points on their bodies then that’s when it gets more intense, so yeah i really like this game and i have been a fan of this type of game since playing them on mobile devices, but i have to say overall this by far has to be my most favourite one of all, so in closing i will say, that this is a simple game with a unique style of control and and challenging game play, and offers even more potential then then other games that are like it, and i can’t wait to see the story mode added and different Backgrounds, costumes and weapon skins for Musashi and last but not least i would be so happy if you add an extra playable Female Character that also somehow fits into the story mode to make her more relevant in addition to been added to the game, when it becomes available

Kharon’s Crypt - Even Death May Die
This game is genuinely good and deserves all the attention. Whether you’re an old-school lover or you’re new to the genre and style, this game will surprise you. The team has worked very hard on the game and the result is a good game.
It will be out of early access when the devs are sure there are no catastrophic bugs or crashes. It will also come out on Switch!
The game itself is very inspired in old gameboy dungeon crawler titles and while it might feel difficult at first glance once you get used to the mechanics and controls it’s not that difficult. I believe everyone should give it an honest try!

The game is really fun and challenging, the music is awesome and it gives og the perfect vibe. The lore is suprisingly detailed and it’s worth reading it all.
! I think it’s a little funny, that you see a cute slime, and then the necronomicon says it’s human pulp.

The greatest writers of all time are fighting each other in the arenas that were inspired by their work. Each character can summon his own “magic” arena where he becomes the boss of the level for a short amount of time. Each character can be knocked out with one hit in standing in “danger” zone. Once the “magic” arena is summoned by one of the 15 combatants - the fighting game becomes an arcade while the “boss” player is trying to defeat the opponent before the magic arena time runs out.
Included game modes:
-
2x Speed mode - a good way to train superhuman reaction
-
Prophet mode - turns the game into a turn-based strategy in a way. Both players blindly enter the string of commands without knowing the commands of the opponent. Once the required number of commands is entered both characters start executing them.
-
Retro mode - Pixelated graphics, old but gold.
-
I know Kung Foo - AI game mode where the AI is trying really hard to loose to you making it look as cool as possible.
Retexo Mori
“Above all, we hold this to be irrefutable: Death is the only True Evil. Retexo Mori.”
- Daily Prayer of the Unyielding
Retexo Mori is a Pac-Man-like game in first person, with bullet hell elements and an aesthetic that clashes early 90’s FPS pixel-art with vaporwave. It features short, high-intensity rounds inside carefully crafted arenas where you must navigate, avoid, and outwit Shadows that pursue you relentlessly. It is easy to understand, but difficult to master: while the enemies behave predictably, in tandem they can easily box you in if you don’t think far enough ahead.
Sacrifice Your Friends
Basically, this is the mechanics of overcooked mixed with the gameplay ideas of Gang Beasts. It super fun to dash around use and throw the weapons, some weapons are a little more useful than others, but they are all counterable. It controls well. A bunch of cool little stuff to unlock, like hats and characters, a bunch of different powerful gods to play, all with different gameplay styles. A whole bunch of beautifully designed maps/artwork, and a whole bunch of other stuff to explore. A great and simple versus game that is definitely worth picking up.

This is an amazingly fun item-arena brawler. The closest games I would compare it to are the Bomberman series and Killer Queen Black.
Your character avatar has no impact on your move set, which consists of punching, grabbing/activating an item, and throwing an item. Your associated Ancient One cult (Cthulhu, Dagon, and Nyarlathotep right now) does have a slightly altered move set, which are fitting for the time-limited avatar transformations (similar to a Smash Bros. Smash Ball). The game moves at such a frantic, hilariously fast and fun pace that it doesn’t need more than this.

Antarctica 88
Nice small game.
It is no more no less than a short russian FPS based on The Thing,
I found some bugs, and the game itself has nothing you will not find in any of the 100 FPS horror games out there.
With the exception of the most important, a clear idea, care and effort to deliver an honestly good game.
Besides polishing, the only thing I dislike about the game, and an my advice to the devs: Is better no not have voice acting than having a terrible one. Subtitles would have been more than good enough. Or in other words, dont add anything to the game unless you can do ir well.

Clearly inspired by someone who watched “The Thing”. This game kind of feels that way.
I mean for an indie and low budget game it delivers just enough to warrant the price tag. Because you will not be playing this game for like 10+ hours(unless you play at highest difficulity).
Some puzzles(mostly item fetching) , combined with combat(that can be avoided if you are a bit smart) are dominating the game. I was a bit less happy about the cave maps but that’s because of the combat.
Overall, I think the dev(s) did a good job on this one. So this game is recommended.

ESCAPE FROM VOYNA: Dead Forest
This is the same game as “Escape From Voyna: Tactical FPS Survival” listed under the Developer “Dead Crow”

I’m not sure what is going on here. Both games are absolutely terrible. Skip completely.
