Singled Out

Singled Out

This game is the perfect arcade game. I haven’t gotten to a boss so I can’t comment about that. It’s also really easy to get onto the leader board. There’s not much to the game but I think that’s how most arcade games are. For it being made in a game jam its great! I didn’t even realize it was made for a game jam at first. It want more games like this! It doesn’t require to much thought so its easy to watch a movie and play it at the same time.

This is a simple and fun little game with a distinctive pixel art style, that’s best enjoyed with a few friends, especially if you’re all a little drunk. You’re given three clues as to what the target galactic super-criminal looks like, and a crowd of faces milling around. You need to identify the criminal and shoot them to get points and move to the next round. If you shoot an innocent bystander by mistake then it’s game over, and you start again from the first round.

It starts out simple, with the target criminal usually being easily spotted at a glance, but quickly starts to build up in difficulty as the faces in the crowd all start to share similar looking features that forces you to start to check and double-check and even triple-check before you pull the trigger. The ten second time limit for each round is accompanied by the ticking of the clock which only adds to the pressure. Taking turns playing it with friends and trying to talk them into shooting the wrong target so they don’t beat your score is almost the best part.

Gangsters 1920

Gangsters 1920

Gangsters 1920 is an interesting game that I received from a bundle. The game features an agent walking around through a labyrinth of connected rooms. After figuring out how the game should be played I had an enjoyable time exploiting many bugs and glitches and laughing at the absurdity of what was happening. At one point I was walking and there was a skeleton prop in the corner of the room, the item wasn’t green so I wasn’t sure if it would be interactive like other items in the game and upon touching it I instantly died. This was no problem evidently as I simply respawned in the room before the current room I was in. At another point there was a small ball rolling back and forth in a room, I accidentally touched it and it was like a scene out of Indiana Jones with a giant crushing ball instant killing me, except ball was tiny and not at all threatening yet still instantly killed me. At the near free cost I got this game at, it was definitely worth the 2.4 hours of fun I got out of it. You can also totally edit the XML save file and do so cool stuff like teleporting out of the bounds of the room, interestingly enough the game actually has a linear gravity implemented that causes you to slowly fall deeper and deeper into the void.

“Gangsters 1920” should be classified as a “Walking Simulator” since that’s primarily what you will be doing. Walking through a maze of 215 rooms that all look the same without any map. So you are required to have graph paper and lots of free time on your hands.

The game is supposed to be randomly generated, but it is the same exact map layout each time you start a new game. The placement of the informant, gramophone and guard are always in the same locations every time you play. Even the password never changes. It’s always: “Gramophone”. So I don’t see any of the mentioned replay value. There’s some issues with grammar and a random problem where a saved game loads showing full health, but in reality the player only has half-health. But it doesn’t really matter, because even if you die, you can still Load or Continue where you left off and keep playing. There’s no penalty for dying. In fact I finished the game is one sitting. It’s very easy, simplistic, boring and repetitious. Not at all challenging as mentioned in the description. Just monotonous. For anyone who purchased this game and is stuck, I created a map below. You begin on the Yellow Square and end on the Brown Square.

“I don’t have any argument but I don’t like it !” -Bad reviews from a random lowbob. 0/10

“Like Skyrim with Polizei.” -IGN 2/10

“Polizei, oktoberfest, ausfarht, dummkopfs.” -Medic 11/10

So, first of all, this game doesn’t deserve all those bad reviews. Everyone seems to have played this game for only 15 minutes, and honestly, you can’t judge a game within 15 minutes. This game reviews are clearly manichaean ; you have two possibilities according to Steam reviews : you completly disregarded it because you played a few minutes and no minigun spawned on your car or you will find this game “somewhat OK”. In my honest opinion, I really liked this game. Of course, there is tons of better game in that game style, like the FlatOut series, but this game got a decent amount of pros. Let me make a list of the pros, the cons and the neutrals.

Usually I finish game first and write review later. But this game is special. Ingame counter tells me that I have completed 42% of game and I just have to describe my last mission. As a warning.

There is tl:dr part after story - you can skip it if you value your time.

You choose part of the city where you will respawn, then car (marked with red flag which means that there is availible mission for it). So far so good.

Voice in radio tells about kidnapped bus. Voice acting is terrible but I don’t mind - they don’t talk too much. Story is garbage - realy. We know that blue bus was kidnapped… And this is our only info - so we chase nearest red dot on the map. Bus driver acts like he was crazy. Drives on wrong lane/in the middle of the road. He’s speeding and make turns that would seriously harm people inside. I think it’s the one… and nope. Apparently this is how bus is supposed to behave on road. Whatever - after 10 minutes I have found the right one. Kidnappers took only one passenger and drived away already. Luckilly (no spoilers - but story is really bad - just more driving and bad voice acting). Now I collect money (?) chase my kidnapped partner (and kidnapped girl) and switch cars with bandit (did I said that story is bad?). There is bomb inside new car so I have to travel 1,5 km fast (some plot garbage).

This is actually a pretty fun game and its incredibly unrealistic which makes it hilarious to do caps from across the map lol but a suggestion of something they could add is possibly more different bottle types for more difficulty or more ease (other than the cans on the moon of course)

SuperOffice

SuperOffice

Dodging slow-motion shots and shooting back is really cool. And we missed a top-down game that way. The desire to play something like this motivated us to create SuperOffice.

The game begins when you wake up from a nap at your desk and find out that all your colleagues were kidnapped by aliens and that a jewel in your drawer allows you to control time.

But your office has changed a lot - aliens and monsters are everywhere chasing you. To clean up this mess you will need to use your jewel and any weapon you find along the way, from vases to throw at your enemies to swords that cut them in two.

In addition to the action, time control and a lot of weapons, SuperOffice also features bosses - the alien masters. Each one has a jewel, and getting them allows you to become even more powerful.

SuperOffice features

  • Infinite rooms: Dive into sequences of procedural generated rooms leading to alien masters.

  • Power collecting: Defeat the alien masters and get their weird jewels. You found the jewel of time on your desk drawer - what other jewels may exist?

  • Many weapons: From pistols, shotguns, machine guns, swords, knives to vases, computer monitors and your own fists.

  • Office environment: Tired of your work? Destroy monitors, work desks and report boxes - all in your time.

SuperOffice is currently being developed. Please feel free to ask us anything or give suggestions at support@growingseedgames.com .

I recommend this, but with a caveat. There’s a lot that needs work here and it is laughable rough at times. From the whole sections where you are walking your horse sideways to the boss fight in the middle that is so unbalanced that you die within seconds no matter what you do (Sunset Tracking).

When this works, it is fun.

City Legends: The Curse of the Crimson Shadow Collector’s Edition

City Legends: The Curse of the Crimson Shadow Collector’s Edition

A very average hidden object game, a bit dull to be honest. Given the short length of the game (6 hours for me) I’d say wait until it’s at least 50% off (I haven’t played the bonus game yet). There are in game achievements, it’s a shame these don’t give steam achievements. The hidden collectibles are very well hidden, I missed nearly half of them so I’d say perhaps too well hidden.

The voice acting doesn’t add much to the game. Visuals are crisp, no complaint there. The puzzles are good, easy not annoying.

The Spectre Files: Deathstalker

The Spectre Files: Deathstalker

I agree that it IS great to have this game available on Steam. I was really hoping that there would be an option to have controls based on button pushes just like the arcade version. I realize that not everyone would want this, but for us arcade nerds the mouse just isn’t the same. To be able to play this on our arcade cabinets would be amazing! I reached out to galloping ghost productions but didn’t heard back from them.

MUST OWN for b-movie horror and full motion video game fans. I cannot understate how important this game is to retro gamers and fans of low budget cheesy movies. Deathstalker is a time capsule of the 1980s, now unlocked for us. This game will take you back to the early pioneering days of PC adventure gaming. So glad Dok Mack brought this to steam, now I can finally play through all the paths and endings! Its like a Choose Your Own Adventure book put to film!!!
