Progressbar95

I liked unlocking new operating systems, and overall, any game with a skin of Windows 95 on it, I like it.

That being said, I did notice some awkward wording that was carried over into the PC port.

“Select a right button to continue.” should read “Select the right button to continue.”

For Progress Defender with the Antivirus, it says “Database need to be updated.” Not only is this not a complete sentence, it has the plural form of need. You could put something along the lines of either, “The database needs to be updated” if you’re looking to complete the sentence, or “The malware database needs to be updated.”

It’s a nice, fun game if you like casual arcade-like action and nostalgia for graphical user interfaces. The goal is easy, but the game introduces enough obstacles and game modes to shake things up, allowing for a fun and challenging experience.

I will say, though, that it’s still transitioning from mobile to desktop. Some elements, such as the pinball, are still confined to a horizontal play area. Dragging the progress bar over a movable desktop item can immediately cause the cursor to drag the desktop item instead, even if the player doesn’t let go of the mouse. On a related note, the right mouse button doesn’t do anything in-game.

Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe

Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe

Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe by PopCap Games is a very simple concept that becomes suprisingly challenging as the game wears on. The basic premise is you begin as a small fish and must eat like sized or smaller fish until you grow big enough to eat the next largest fish. The games graphics are bright and cheerful, the music appropriate and not aggravating, and the scoring screens even offer a little bit of fun information about fish. While this game would be perfect for kids, the gameplay is brisk enough to be enjoyed by adults as well. My only minor concerns with the game are the lack of Steam Overlay support, and a no Vysync option, which for high end systems may lead to some minor graphic tearing. Altogether though, the game is fun and inexpensive and well worth your gaming dollar.

political, philosophical, personal. feeding frenzy 2: shipwreck showdown brings with it all the fun of the first game while crafting a deeply profound message on what it means to survive.

the first feeding frenzy was all about the dog-eat-dog - or fish-eat-fish - world of the deep blues. as a classic underdog tale, the player upgrades from andy the angelfish up to orville the orca through the endless process of munching. as a political statement, though? an incredibly pessimistic one, which discusses the power-seeking nature of man (fish) kind, and the all-encompassing corruption that greed brings, while briefly touching upon moments of euphoria, forgiveness, and environmentalism.

What’s not to love? NinjaKiwi’s entire Flash archive is provided here for free, having survived the heat death of the Flash universe. Bloons TD 1-5 are all here, of course, but the real standout for me is Bloons Monkey City, which combines BTD5 with a base builder–and works amazingly well. (In fact, by all accounts, it’s mechanically superior to the standalone version, offering more features, albeit with the performance limitations of Flash). But if you’re familiar with NinjaKiwi at all, you’ve probably played these in the past. While you can always return to a TD years later, it’s fun to explore their older and lesser known titles, of which this collection includes dozens.

Heavy Weapon Deluxe

Heavy Weapon Deluxe

Those negative reviews are utterly misleading. Back in 2006, I’ve played this Heavy Weapon Deluxe since the first release. There is no XBOX platform. Only PC version.

To be honest, let me start with both comparisons. What you get in:

| | PC Platform | Console Platform (PS2/XBOX) |

| Number of Players | Single | Single / Co-op |

| Movement | Mouse |

A nostalgic game. The last time I played this game was on a Windows XP, and it has always been great, even until now. The controls, however, only uses the mouse (i.e. aiming and movement are both done with the mouse simultaneously), so you might need to get used to it first before fully enjoying the experience. I believe the console port (Xbox, I believe) changes this characteristic, so buy this game in such console instead if you are more comfortable that way. Overall, the experience is smooth as expected. The controls, though may be tricky, have no issues at all. Survival mode makes this game still fun even if played repeatedly, despite the very steep difficulty spike once 7-10 minutes have elapsed. I truly recommend this lightweight, nostalgic, and enjoyable game.

Tempest 4000

Tempest 4000

While looking for casual/arcade games I found Tempest 4000. Not being familiar with Tempest or Llamasoft I dismissed it at first but after watching two levels of gameplay I suspected it might be a game I’d like.

My first hour of playing the game was filled with regret and yours might be too. T4k is an awesome game but difficult at first, with a different way to control the claw than it’s predecessors and it will take time to learn how to play the game properly. Also the gameplay and visuals start out simplistic but the further you get the better it becomes. You have to hang in there for more than an hour to start enjoying the game.

Tempest 4000 is amazing. The visuals are stimulating, the sounds intense, the gameplay thrilling, and it is alot of fun. The wait was definitely worth it (4 years give or take). Yak and Giles really outdid themselves this time. However, despite how good this game is, it still has some flaws:

  1. You need a controller to play this game. Using keys feels weird, as you use the A and B keys, like you would use the A and B buttons. Also, Left Bumper is P, and I haven’t quite figured out what Right Trigger is. Also, you can not change key bindings, so there is that.

PAC-MAN™ CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2

PAC-MAN™ CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2

These are crude early impressions from someone who is in the top 100 on the leaderboards (or at least, top 300 if we include hackers) for both Pac Man DX and Champ 2:

  • The game starts with an unnecessary six minute tutorial. After this, you unlock Score attack, where you unlock more levels as you play. There’s a lot of unlocking in this game, but I think anyone with moderate stint of skill should be able to unlock mostly everything in no time.

  • Championship 2 has the same fundamentals as the other games (eat dots, ghost trains, power pellets) but its otherwise entirely different. Eating dots fills up a gauge that, when filled will allow you to eat a fruit at the center of the screen to refresh the board. This means you don’t have to eat every single dot to to get the fruit like in DX. Ghosts no longer immediately kill you on impact. Instead you bump off them a few times before they turn hostile and chase you. Bombs can now be obtained by eating all of the dots and return you to the center of the screen instead of the ghosts when you use them. Another small addition to some boards are jump pads that dart you across the screen. I have to say, I think these will always throw me out of whack, but in a good way.

Is CE2 a good game? Yes. Is it a good game on its own right? Yes. Is it a good game compared to its predecessor, Pac-Man CE DX? I’m still not entirely sure.

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is the next iteration in the Pac-Man Championship franchise. It takes the standard Pac-Man arcade formula and spins it on its head. The first iteration had changing mazes and speed increases, CEDX introduced ghost trains, and now here we are with CE2 that throws more ideas into the system than either of the other two games in the series did. While building on the familiar concepts of CE and CEDX, CE2 stands far apart from these two previous titles.
