Cycle 28

Cycle 28

An excellent game! While fairly minimalist in design, this game is a lot of fun and has deep replayability. It really nails the feel of a slow build-up space dogfight, where skill wins out over an increasingly large number of enemy ships. As other reviews point out, the game is relatively short (if determined, you could get most of the achievements/“win” in a few hours), but there’s always the lure of climbing higher on the leaderboards to draw you back. The game narrative is also rather good-with bits and pieces of the story passed on to the player, in often surprising ways. In total: Cycle 28 is really awesome and a steal at its current price. Highly recommend!

What can I say about Cycle 28?

One of the coolest Indie Games I’ve played in a long while!

It’s visually stimulating, it’s constantly changing, enemies are tough as nails and i find myself always trying to get that multiplier up and up then get a single shot at me to slow down my progress to my personal best and high score. BUT i just want more and more….

Keyboard controls are not the best for this style of game so get your controller ready and you will pick it up in minutes.

Now after you get the score you’ve been desperately fighting for over and over and over you wonder what’s the story. Now the story is shrouded in mystery and to this day i and many others are struggling to figure it out. This adds a extra level of problem solving to the mix that keeps me going back for more…… oh ye and that highscore of course ;)

Drawkanoid

Absolutely love the balance of tension. It’s definitely exploring things left untouched in other re-interpretations of this classic, feels like the ultimate version of the brickbreaker genre.

omg, the hexagonal enemies are amazing for all the rebounding goodness, but the little orange rounds are complete nonsense.

Drawkanoid: Satisfyingly Chaotic

The premise of “Breakout but you draw your paddle” sounds interesting in theory and is actually really interesting in practice. The visuals do the game a huge service, especially when you manage to get an insane combo. It’s a nice game to come back to every so often and (unlike say “Super Hexagon") becomes more a game of endurance and in the moment decision making rather than one of reflex.

I’d recommend it! it’s like… the price of a lunch… and you get to keep it too. Definitely gonna play some more of it!

Endocrisis is a pure Side Scroller-Shoot’em Up (Shmup) inspired by some classics of this genre like Darius,Gradius or R-type!While it doesn’t feature a true campaign, the main goal of the game is to beat the stages that the game offers, until you unlock the final battle in order to beat the game.Every stage is being described as an emotion.Emotions like Anxiety,Fear,Panic are some few examples. You have to beat these stages,in order to reach the final battle with “THE MIND”-which is your mind ,that wants to control you and convince you to…not follow your emotions!

The mechanics of Endocrisis range from single runs similar to Steredenn (A channel favorite) to frantic bullet absorption that feels like the Ikaruga polarity switching (Another channel favorite). There is also an interesting resource management component that revolves around your available life which depletes based on the number of bullets you shoot, as well as raises based on the enemy bullets you absorb. Essentially, if you love auto-fire in Shoot’em ups, you will need to learn to conserve in certain stages. These mechanics bound with the Neon color palette and slick enemy designs collide in an interesting game that is even more impressive when you look at the fact this is the developer’s first published title.

Hell Blasters

Hell Blasters

I’m fairly new to playing shoot em ups (shmups) to actually be good at them rather than just credit feed my way through an arcade game. I wanted to get into ‘bullet hell’ shmups but the games are really intimidating. This game was recommended because the designer is an accomplished bullet hell player who made the gameplay the top priority - and made it so you can use the story mode to actually learn to play a bullet hell.

It’s been an absolute blast and the story mode really delivers bite sized chunks of training and the arcade so you can practice them and learn how to deal with the enemies.

This is the Bluesmobile of shmups. It may not look like much on the outside, but it’s got the cop motor, cop tires, and probably even the cig lighter. Great level design & bullet patterns, a ton of modes, leader board & replays, great shmup tunes, it’s all there. Great work, devs!

Mushihimesama

Mushihimesama

Mushihimesama is a game that I went back and forth over buying for quite some time. I’d heard stories of CAVE’s arcade shmups (especially DoDonPachi, Espgaluda, and Ketsui) for years, but had never actually had the opportunity to play any of them. Upon seeing Mushihimesama on Steam I was excited, but after watching the trailer I decided to hold off on it. I’m not sure exactly what it was about the trailer, but it failed to sell me the game. I’m sure the rumors I heard that it wasn’t a very good port didn’t help matters either. Eventually I decided to pick it up anyway, and I’m really glad that I did. Perhaps you shouldn’t always judge a game by its trailer.

Mushihimesama is a brilliant CAVE shooter that is a direct port of the 360 version, available for people on PC for the first time. Mushihimesama sets a standard in terms of modern STGs and cave games in general that we can get a taste for and is absolutely worth your time.

Gameplay

Vertical shooter, you control 1 ship called Reco and you have a choice of 3 different shot types they are :

M-Power (best all round shot type)

W-Power (wide shot type for clearing large groups of enemies in stages, low mobility)

It’s super chaotic! Took a while to find out what the controls are but once I did I went destructo mode. If you like explosions and fast paced games, try this one out.

Snake2 has been a long time coming and it is rare for a game like this to deliver so hard and be so excellent. I believe it started development back in 1998 right after Snake released on Nokia phones. For decades I waited, I bought hundreds of gaming magazines over the years in hopes of seeing some kind of update on how it was going or when it would be released. Oh how the developers used to talk it up, “Snake 2 is coming and it will BITE your socks off.” Suffice to say: I NEEDED. SNAKE 2. I pre-ordered it right away. But the wait was agonizing. Years passed and I heard nary a peep about Snake 2 development. I became jaded, I felt betrayed, I never thought they would finish it, and if they did finish it there was no way it could live up to the pure vision and bombast of the original. Had I been played like a fool? Was it never coming…?

Your goal is simple: survive for 100 seconds.

In this bullet hell game, threatening circles and triangles will chase you, shoot at you, and even explode in an effort to end your life. Take control of a small, vulnerable cube with the ability to evade enemies and shoot back at them. Beware, one hit will kill you.

Choose the color of your character. The enemy spawn rate depends upon the color you select.
