ALLBLACK Phase 1

ALLBLACK Phase 1

ALLBLACK Phase 1 is a free to play Kinetic Visual Novel split into 3 chapters that grabs your attention from the start with its intense action involving an amnesiac who is rescued at sea by a fishing vessel and, upon docking, is thrust into a world of mystery & intrigue. The plot is driven by a gradual unravelling of self-discovery experienced during life-threatening scenarios that the amnesiac encounters the moment he leaves the fishing vessel.

There are moments when reading this VN that you’re immediately reminded of the Jason Bourne novel The Bourne Identity and, even though this VN is based off a novel, it’s conversion maintains the same engrossing desire to want to share the journey of discovering the unknown about the amnesiac.

This may be the strangest things I have completed on Steam. The game/story started out very strong but quickly my enjoyment descended into hell. The art and sound are amazing. The story is interesting. This games downfall is the writing. The story drags because of the asinine level of unnecessary detail make sections that should be exciting into extremely long narrative that go on and on and on. At first I found this amusing but by chapter 2’s end my enjoyment drifted to frustration.

CORPSE FACTORY

//TOKYO, 20XX: Whispers and rumors are spreading through the streets of metropolitan Tokyo like wildfire. Murmurings of a bizarre website have started to pique the interest of more than a few people—people willing to take extreme risks in order to fulfill their darkest desires.

Corpse Girl’s Website supposedly allows users to request the death of someone they know. All that is required is a photo of the proposed victim. Once an image is uploaded, the website promises to snuff out the victim’s soul within a matter of days.

Victims of the website apparently receive a photograph of their own corpse—even before they are dead. Photos are time stamped with a date… Perhaps a predicted time of death? The website’s authenticity is questionable at best. It has become an interesting topic of conversation and nothing more.

And yet… When people start dying in odd ways across the city, the website instantly returns to the limelight.

All of the recent victims were found in possession of strange photos—photos of their own corpses, received only hours before they died…

CORPSE FACTORY is a visual novel driven by pure suspense. It’s part horror and part psychological thriller. The story is told in a linear fashion, with a few key choices to make along the way that will affect the ending of the game.

Head AS Code

Head AS Code

I like it. This is an indie game styled after the Zero Escape franchise, so there are a lot of references and spirit you can feel throughout the game. Just so you know, Head AS Code is a remake of the original title and is somehow superior in every sense. The presentation is pretty simple and there’s a lot to think about in this plot-driven story. I wish I could say much about the characters and the plot, but a lot of this game relies on reveals, so the magic would happen best if you saw them yourself. Coming up with theories is great, and I like to think this game gave me many opportunities to guess at what’s going to happen next. One of my only real non-spoilery complaints about this game… I’d say it would be the serious lacking of puzzle difficulty. As in, there’s only one real head-scratcher and that’s it. All the “puzzles” are just clicking the next option and that’s it. I get why creator decided to remove the difficulty from the game and I understand that many puzzles in the original version alienated the player from ever solving them without outside help. Still, this beats out doing obscure mathematics anytime.

A refreshing swim during an absolute drought of mysterious multiple-route sci-fi visual novels, exploring esoteric concepts both originating from science and philosophy, and delving into matters of the mind and body.

Many game reviews I’ve read act redundant by repeating the plot summary and anything else you would find on public platforms, so I’ll try to refrain from doing so.

Written alone by one person, this visual novel features a strong and distinct cast whom you will interact with often, soaked in their own mysteries, to varying degrees of intimacy and personality across several routes. This is one of few VNs where, when given the option to talk with certain characters, I had wanted to talk to everybody right off the bat. What fuels the nuanced characters, their desires and motives? Hidden behind layers of facade and veil, YOU will quest to learn the reason for each member’s existence.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys classic RPG horror games such as The Witch’s House, Mad Father, Misao, and Ib. The puzzles are solvable without the use of a guide while still requiring you to put some thought into them to find the solution. The save points are in good places so that you never have to redo very much if you die. The characters personalities are enjoyable and start to make more sense as you play through the game. The achievements in this game are not difficult to get, the names can sometimes give hints if you are unsure of what to do, though I would still recommend you use a guide for them just to be safe.

I thought it will be a regular story, but it was so much better than expected. The gameplay is negligible -from what i’ve seen, the decisions doesn’t affect the ending in this one-, and it limits to tell the story and branch just some dialogue by the choices you make. Not a revolutionary storytelling, but the characters were memorable for the duration of the game, and for the price, it was a good shot for me.

Recommended for anyone who is curious about it, and who wants a small and self-contained story. Not a game changer, but a good one, at least for any sensible soul.

Ahh i finished the game crying inside TvT…

Tho the story seems short but it wan an interesting journey!

It might seem slow at first, with some confusions but things will make sense once you reach to the final arc :")

i really loved the calm soundtracks that helped playing with my emotions in certain scenes~

Tho there are some scenes that i wished to have its full illustration to capture it, and at some other scenes, it missed some consistency, along with some tinyy UI glitches, but i loved the choice of words and the way they described emotions ;^;

Genre: VN - Visal Novel/Reading Storytelling

Rating:

Gameplay:

Having played several other VNs where the player can choose the fate and ending of the story, this one is compleatly linear. No gameplay at all. If you were looking for action or plot twists, look away, you will be reading a lot.

Rating - 8/10

Other - 5/10

Graphics:

Grahpics are okish, capped normally at 1024 x 600 and fullscreened with little damage to the image of the storyplay. Anime style is a diffrence from S&W, more bold and less simple.

Summery: A short Kinetic Novel (~10 hours) with mediocre content, but poor execution.

Story: 5 / 10

The story is about a runaway kid which does stock-trading on the moon. The futuristic moon colony setting isn’t really that necessary and I found myself doubting the correctness of the technical explanations on several occasions. There is still two episodes remaining, but as of right now it would probably have been better without the sci-fi setting.

One thing I loved about Spice and Wolf is that it presented trading and economic subjects in way which made them interesting. This was not the case with World End Economica 01, I found most of the stock-trading to be pretty boring.
