I thought it will be a regular story, but it was so much better than expected. The gameplay is negligible -from what i’ve seen, the decisions doesn’t affect the ending in this one-, and it limits to tell the story and branch just some dialogue by the choices you make. Not a revolutionary storytelling, but the characters were memorable for the duration of the game, and for the price, it was a good shot for me.

Recommended for anyone who is curious about it, and who wants a small and self-contained story. Not a game changer, but a good one, at least for any sensible soul.

This is the single greatest video game I have ever played.

This is NOT just a video game, it is an experience and has impacted my lifestyle for the better. Previously I would only play multiplayer games with my friends but ever since I’ve played this game, I’ve abandoned all of them. I don’t need any of them to enjoy this. Every level is a completely new experience, and I don’t know where my life would be without it. Every moment that I’m not playing this game is a moment wasted.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this game. In terms of the base game, Soda Drinker Pro, it got a bit of amusement out of me. I even played about half the levels before deciding that was all I was going to get out of it. The weird music in the background accompanied by the strange comments continued to crack me up even as I was in some of the last levels I played. But the majority of the time I spent in this game wasn’t in Soda Drinker Pro. The “hidden game” is what I found interesting, but it’s hard to actually recommend it to someone else. I personally find discovering the logic in the initial chaos of starting it interesting, and seeing all the puzzle pieces come together as you find out what you’re supposed to be doing and how to do it was exciting, to me at least. However, I can’t say that the game is very good. Pretty much the only thing that kept me going was the question of what weird things I would see next. The gameplay can be floaty, loose, and confusing. But if you’re like me and enjoy seeing all this weird stuff just for the sake of seeing it, I would recommend this game. Or, you know, you could buy it for the memes.

Gal*Gun: Double Peace

TL;DR

This game is sort of a retro arcade-style fast-paced on-rail shooter, except instead of using guns to shoot enemy soldiers on a battlefield, you’re using sex pheromones to shoot anime girls in an academy. Overall it’s a great game, and I really enjoy playing it.

Main Pros

  • There’s a built-in “panic button” (normally bound to M) that you can press to pause the game and pull up a fake old school RPG game to fool friends or family members if they were to walk in to you being bombarded by lustful anime girls.

Real player with 30.8 hrs in game

It’s not a great port: xbox gamepad prompts are everywhere (but mouse and keyboard are working, and in story-critical QTEs you’ll get proper mouse prompts) and there are unexplainable game crashes on some setups, but it is still fun and weird Japanese nonsense. You should buy it, if you are into shooting pheromones at school girls and female teachers trying to express their love to you.

You can call this game “a lewd Japanese nonsense”. It’s an on-rails shooter. Your character moves through the school and then SUDDENLY GIRLS! Thousands of them! And every one of them wants to become your girlfriend forever. You have no choice but to defend yourself. You must disarm them - you do it by shooting pheromones at your attackers. In the best traditions of on-rails shooters, girls are zone-sensitive targets, so it matters where you shoot your load. Disarmed girls will scream with ecstasy and fall on the ground in lewd funny possess. Apart from the standard shooting mechanics, you can see through girls’ clothes while zooming-in…and touch girls in doki-doki mode…and…and don’t judge me.

The Window Box

The Window Box

Beautiful and wonderfully written. If you enjoy visual novels this is definitely for you.

Visually alone, this game is incredibly stunning and unique. For me personally I find most visual novels fall flat in this category so it’s refreshing to see a new take on it.

Storywise, I was never bored or felt like “yeah okay whatever” so I feel like I got my moneys worth alone for this.

It’s definitely much different than any other visual novel I’ve played, various themes and concepts are discussed in an interesting way. Some things I felt personally connected to and that’s not something I’ve experienced much in a video game at all, let alone a visual novel.

The Window Box by Sundew Studios is a dark comedic visual novel about five college friends catching up. This point-and-click game allows you to find out more about the girls’ back story while solving puzzles and discovering the dark truth about Elsa’s new life. Is any of these strange twists real or is the stress of relationships, work, and the prospects of having a baby driving these women insane?

Being a visual novel, the first thing I usually notice is the art style and music. Since games like this have very limited gameplay, those two things are very important. With that being said, I really enjoyed the music in The Window Box. I felt that it fit the tone of the game very well but wasn’t too distracting. I did also enjoy the art style. The characters reminded me of fashion designs and sketches. They were all unique and had their own personality, just based on their designs alone. The backgrounds and objects in the game were really pretty as well. The tone of the whole art style really fit the dark whimsy aesthetic they were going for.

Before reviewing this further I would just like to say that even though I have said “No” in the recommended category, if you were to get the game on a deep sale or in a bundle then I think it is worth trying it out just for the 1st Act at least.

It took me about 4 hours to get through Act1 and the ending I got, but a further 3 to 5 to complete the 2nd act and get the other achievements.

TL;DR

  • Nice visuals

  • 1st story arc is fine

  • Interesting concept to play through the role as 3 characters at once

Real player with 19.8 hrs in game

After 100% completing the game, I can say there are a few very good and a few pretty bad things about it.

Story:

The story can be pretty interesting, I’m not really that fond of the Harry Potter magic society cliché, but I liked the characters, or more specifically, the relationship that developed between them, the characters did felt a little too linear at points, but it was still interesting to see them develop together, the clashes between them towards the end in some routes were impressively good, as I did not expect linear characters to change in such a radical way. Also, the concept of magic in this game is pretty well developed, I did not pay too much attention to the explanations, as I was not interested in it, but when I did they made good sense, I felt that there was actual thinking put behind it, which is always a good thing to have in a story-centered game, there has to be a good explanation even for the things you don’t really pay attention to most of the time. Another problem is undeveloped points of the story that seemed central throughout the story, like the piano issue, with which the story started and developed but went nowhere in the end.

Decided to give this a try because the screenshots were intriguing and the store page had some cute motivational phrases.

Most of your deaths will be from falling off. You know how unresponsive RPG Maker movement is? Imagine that in a precision-movement game. Doesn’t work. The gameplay is your generic dodge the instant death as you memorize the movements of different hazards.

Sorry to say the dev seems really proud of this, and the store page is cute, but the game isn’t any good. The writing once you’re in the game is bleh.

Artificial Iridescence

Artificial Iridescence

Spoilers Ahead! this ain’t a normal review.

Artificial Iridescence is a strange & short visual novel. I will say that I like where it was going at first, but after a little bit seemed to throw in a lot of plots or twists in front of the player, one of them that especially struck me was “Pregnant”, and possibly grabbing the gun too although that part was “strange” and way to sudden. It went from “Oh how heart-warming” to “Wait why are thy throwing so much just for the plot”. For the most part the story kinda flowed down well, until we meet AVIA and well going down the story river which went off-track until the end. I think during my playthrough I thought “Oh is AVA dying and is that why she making AVIA for, to really keep Clint company”, but nope it turned into a cheating wife (Now reading this over I think that would of been a better plot or ending to this game). I also like to read other reviews as inspiration & the story did have the potential, but it went down hill (saying this again because I can see others expressing about the story line).

Interesting concept for a game, I enjoy visual novels from time to time and enjoyed this short written visual novel. Has sort of a black mirror vibe as far as technology is introduced. Maybe a little quick to wrap up how the ending plays out, but overall an enjoyable experience.

I’ll be releasing a video for it, so if you’ve a mind to watch it check out Ryizine on the Tube.
