Nirvana Pilot Yume

Nirvana Pilot Yume

I love the concept for this game - visual novel + SkyRoads (which was an amazing DOS game where you piloted a little space car hopping along interstellar highways) is such a good, fresh idea. Nirvana Pilot Yume also throws in a great synthwave soundtrack as well as an artistic style that reminds me of 80s anime and vaporwave music videos. The visual novel aspect of the game is really well written, and the dialogue is enjoyable and the sex scenes natural and non-cringy.

The racing sections are a little rough at the moment - I think my biggest problem is that the tracks are REALLY hard, or at least the difficult bumps up dramatically after the first track, which is dirt easy. It’s quite hard to see what exactly is coming your way, because the vantage point is directly at the horizon whereas in SkyRoads, you had somewhat more of an overhead view, and thus more time to react and move your ship around obstacles. In Nirvana Pilot Yume, I feel like there’s almost no time to react at all because stuff is coming at you so fast, and the collision detection is VERY sensitive. The brake option also doesn’t seem to do much at the moment but pull the camera in closer, and currently when I try slowing down in all tracks after the first one, the speed meter at the top doesn’t change. (Not sure if this is a bug or not.)

I recently received this game for free as a curator connect offer for my group Visual novel, JRPG, Anime. First of all, this visual novel is an adult eroge visual novel with a few NSFW CGs. For those who don’t mind adult visual novels, read on.

This romance visual novel with arcade racing and platforming segments by Dev9k features a male protagonist Mitur Aldaine. Mitur graduated from an Academy and became the greatest racer of Alba Proxima and an Eye in a futuristic world where territorial contests between different orbital stations are decided by races among spaceships.

I actually really enjoyed this game. There’s so much tactics, research, resource gathering, taking over entire systems. At one point, i got drunk and started a war over a missunderstanding. Two of the biggest galactic unions got involved and the fighting was absolutely relentless and brutal basically the entire galaxy became aligned to 2-3 unions and widespread civil war broke out because of a drunken missunderstanding. It lasted months. The fighting got so intense, people were booking days off work just to stay up all night and defend their unions. One person spent about 50 quid upgrading the stuff in game for better offensive capabilities due to an attack from my tier 5 ships. During this my tiny union put up such a fight came in 3rd in the world for offense and defence for that month.

Battlespace is deep. It has provided me with months of entertainment and a place to meet cool, intelligent people. It’s slow paced, which is perfect for me and highly dependent on strategy the higher level you get. The events are well spaced to let you grow in between the Invasions, but not so far apart to get boring for a patient person.

This game requires a lot of thought and patience, but the payoff in higher level PVP and Giant Planet raids is worth the wait. Finding a good Union is key (SPEED IS KEY, JACK) as is getting your resource production up and keeping it flowing.

If you know where to look you can find a fair amount of recently released (in the last 5 years) space combat games about, but not many of them are actually any good. I’m pleased to say Eterium is not one of those and is a fun game which holds your interest long enough to get through the campaign, which would probably take up at least 8 hours of your time if you go through all the pilot dialogue’s in between missions.

I was disappointed that I could not name my pilot, given that all dialogue is text based, they attempt to flesh out our character with a back story and is far from a silent protagonist. I was also surprised to see that you could not gain rank, after being demoted early on in the game I expected a way to actually recover and improve upon my rank during the campaign. I also found it hard to make my way up the kill board, may be my piloting skills were just not up to scratch and found myself consistently sitting at the bottom of the rankings.

An excellent starfighter game–reminds me a lot of the old Wing Commander games.

You play as a starfighter pilot aboard a carrier, the U.E.A. Canopus. Fairly straight forward war story with pretty well structured missions and a bit of surprises here and there. The dynamic difficuality thing and game design even means you won’t always have the same play through. For example, you might not have to dog fight in an asteroid field or you might encounter patrol boats rather than a destroyer. Good touches! Design is more of a win than the plot.

The game is not really bad in itself. The graphics and the songs are good, there is the choice in mutliple spaceships with different special power. But that’s all. The game is really simple, you just have to click on the left and right mouse buttons to turn in the associated direction, and there is nothing more. It’s all the the time the same thing with the same damn music that is good at first, but that become really really annoying after a moment. Also there is some bugs, if you buy a starship the price for the other rise, but if you close the game, when you restart it,the prices are back to the original for some but not for all the spaceships. I can’t recommended this game, exept if you want to play the same game during hours with a simplistic gameplay.

You move your spaceship with your two mouse buttons. No other controls. You dodge space rocks and collect energy tokens that you then spend to unlock or upgrade ships. Each ship has its own special ability. It’s just a time killer. It gets boring fast. Waste enough time and you will get all achievements, no skill required.

For what it is it’s really overpriced. The game has cards and backgrounds, but most of the backgrounds are just screenshots from the game and it won’t “wow” you with its graphics. You can get much better games for far less, with better graphics, better gameplay and better cards and backgrounds. Epido is one I would recommend.

★★★★☆

A great, fast-paced space shooter, that feels dynamic and fresh even after 20+ hours. At first, the difficulty might scare you away, but with practise comes pay-off. It becomes challenging, but never too easy (except for the first quarter of the game). The loot system, which also seems harsh, seems to be just right, though I feel like some items should have been more expensive compared to other items. The content of loot you will find in missions are random, as well as the the provisions of the trader after each mission. This, with the randomized level lay-out and combinations of units and the challenge they offer, is what this game makes so amazingly replayable. Ofcourse, you can get (un)lucky in some situations, making it feel like it’s unforgiving at times. To me, that is a great premise of a game in the traditional sense as it is a call back to the arcade days of the 90’s.

Galak-Z is a thinking man’s game. And a thinking man who’s willing to invest time in his or her skills to fly in space.

Game is beautifully made:

1. Graphics are really well made, and the art style is retro but modern at the same time. Ship and character designs are nice homage to other space operas/shows.

2. Sound is well made too. Explosions feel real, thruster sounds feel gripping, especially when you engage your best, and voice acting is top notch. I enjoy the music because it really adds the suspense when I’m sneaking around asteroid belts avoiding enemy patrols.

Space Fox Kimi

Space Fox Kimi

Fun little JRPG in a futuristic setting with some entertaining features like the ship to ship combat, skills tied to your weapon, different solutions for some of the quests and more. In case you are worried when you see some anthropomorphic girls in a JRPG from a dev that sounds Asion, that this is another one of “those games”, I can put your mind at ease: This is family friendly game made by a Canadian company. Highly recommended, even at full price.

Sun Blast: Star Fighter

Sun Blast: Star Fighter

Disclaimer: I was generously given a free copy of Sun Blast with the understanding that I was expected to review the title after spending some time with it.

Sun Blast was presented to me in one sentence as “like Starfox 64”. Prior to even redeeming the key I found this an unfair way to represent a new game because Starfox (in my opinion) is the best of the best for that third person arcade shootem’up genre. Putting expectations at that level means that a fully competent title could easily be harshly critiqued or condemned for not being absolutely perfect.

Here we have another game that can be summed up in a single word: YIKES!

It’s cute that Sun Blast’s store description not only has the gall to claim that it was inspired by Star Fox, Space Harrier, and Panzer Dragoon, but it also says that it’s “the best 3d space shooter on Steam”.

Sun Blast was inspired by a dumpster fire. Never before have I played a shooter with such poor mechanics, sluggish controls, and awful mission-design. Dodging enemy ships and their bullets should be a relatively simple task, but instead it’s messy and somewhat convoluted. This can be attributed to the odd perspective. It’s not always clear where objects are in relation to the player-ship. So this results in lots of collisions. The bosses tend to have homing weapons, and they’re exceedingly frustrating to deal with. Why? Because the player-ship can’t maneuver around them, and the angle makes it difficult to tell where the homing shots are heading.

Being the final installment to my favorite series, I had some pretty high hopes for this game. The pre-release demo showed a lot of promise, and after a little more than a week, I’ve finished the game. It most certainly lives up to my expectations, and both the overworld and dungeon gameplay portions are once again, in my opinion, significantly enhanced from the last installments. The best changes include but are not limited to,

Overworld:

-Teleporting between save points and areas.

-A rebalanced weapon and SP system.

I was cautiously optimistic heading into this game after really liking the first game and being frustrated with many parts of the second game. I didn’t really know whether I was going to love or hate the game, and with Inticreates it could be either because their track record veers wildly in both directions. In the end, I ended up somewhere in the middle in that I was both pleasantly surprised and disappointed.

Starting off, I have to say that all of my gameplay complaints with the first two games were addressed in full, and I’m happy to report the game was a much more enjoyable experience overall.

IMO, the negative reviews are unfair for this game, knowing it’s priced that low.

Notice the plebs with less than 20 minutes posting their reviews smh…

I don’t get it, people expect something triple A quality maybe for the price of a cinema ticket ?

I’m a huge old-school railshooter fan, so I was really looking forward to this game… Unfortunately, it’s awful.

• Railshooter segments are lackluster

• Free-roaming segments are nigh unplayable

• Game pad control scheme is not well thought out

• Movement and aiming sensitivity are not adjustable

• Y-Axis cannot be inverted on either stick

• Evasive maneuvers are largely useless and easy to accidentally trigger

• Mech mode is slow and extremely clunky, especially when moving along the Y-Axis

• No radar, so you’re completely blind to off-screen threats — of which there are many
