Planetarian The Reverie of a Little Planet

Hmmm, so coming into this VN I didn’t know what to expect, I had heard quiet a lot about it but I was hearing a lot of mixed impressions, however I was pleasantly surprised to find what a great story it had, it was a very interesting read; and suffice to say I have reread this VN many times.

The Story is based long after a great war that left the world in darkness, most if not all life gone, acid rains ever covering the planet in an erosive downpour.

So, this is another key’s sadness visual novel, I have played Clannad and watched Clannad, Air, Kanon, and many key’s animes. This time key brings us a sadness but thoughtful story with a robot girl whose name is Hoshino Yomemi, which means the beautiful dream of the stars. I have read the whole Planetarian novels after played this game, so that I know the whole world of this novel series.Yomemi is a lovely girl, I DON’T think she is a ROBOT, but a HUMAN with all the beauties and she stands for the brightness of humanity. She is innocent and just like a child. Human destoried everything but she still believed that everything will become fine one day. I think the precious memories of Yomemi are the most moved part of this novel and I cried for nearly 2 hours after I watched that part. After played this game, I thought a long time, why human beings began to kill each other? Maybe they lost their emotions like love and mercy. After all, all these loves and mercies are given to Yomemi and she became the hope of human maybe. Though her body dead in the end, but her spirit was taken by us. By the way, the next novel called Man of Stars(maybe, I read this story in Chinese), in that story, our main character became a old man and show other people the beauty of stars, just like what Yomemi was done to him, and finally in a small village in South America, he dead with another robot which the same type of Yomemi, in that time, the South America was covered with ice and people could hardly survive. In that village, our main character teached 3 children many things of stars, knowledges, and some past stories. It’s a sad end. Human couldn’t avoid disappearing from this planet, but our spirit, our love, the dream of heaven, the heaven that won’t be seperated, the hope, won’t disappear.Actually, I think this game worth this price, in my opinion, it’s even more worth than 60$, it makes us to thought what’s the true love, what’s the humanity, and I think it’s even more thoughtful than some text book.

KARAKARA

KARAKARA

This is a plaintext version of the full GameCynic review (with gallery)

Supported in part by a successful Indiegogo funding campaign earlier in 2016, Japanese developer Calme’s debut title is a short visual novel centered around the daily life of Leon, who struggles to keep his café open in a post-disaster era.

Visual novels — games which are essentially watching anime at your own pace, with little to no actual gameplay — are often a difficult genre to do well. Their simplicity means that storyline often makes or breaks a game, and a market saturated by home made, amateur titles can often overwhelm new developers. Luckily for KARAKARA, this isn’t a problem, thanks to strong personalities for the main characters.

If I had to describe KARAKARA in one sentence, I’d say “It’s Fallout meets NEKOPARA, but not as competent as either one”. Now if that intrigues you, please read on.

KARAKARA is a fully kinetic visual novel. That means there’s no plot choices, no dating sim elements, not even a petting button or localized earthquakes. It functions like a standard visual novel, with static backgrounds and slightly animated character sprites. I really like the visual style, particularly with how colors are balanced. If I had to complain about anything, I’d say everything is just a bit too bright, but it’s not bad. As for audio, the music isn’t exactly remarkable, but it makes for a good background. There’s also sound effects that get the job done similarly, and the voice acting was at least good enough that I didn’t mute it.

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Humanity has tapped into the very power of possibility and has doomed itself in the process. The MC is a child soldier tasked with fighting a war over scraps, and a chance for a few humans to survive advancing armageddon. This VN is a vicious look at war, love and human ambition. There are waifus, war crimes, well written scif-fi and extreme violence. Although there are certainly better looking visual novels, the character designs are appealing and the music is surprisingly good. There are even genuinely comedic moments in all of the grim dark (An old man’s joke about painting his wife’s canvas comes to mind). Of course those happy moments are a set up for an absolutely brutal series of events that will leave you feeling hollow at the end of it. Best $5 I’ve spent all year.

Rather than being a sequel to the original game, this game is the prequel. It explains alot of what happens in the original game.

While definitely shorter than the one before it, the writing, sound design, CG’s, etc. are still very good, if not better. Taking the brutal and gut wrenching descriptions of gore on a whole nother level (coming from my mind). The OST’s of this VN is amazing, perhaps at times better than the original one. While I am sad that this one doesn’t have as much gameplay to offer as the first Fallstreak, it is still a masterpiece. A diamond in the rough, just waiting to be found. Was it well worth the 4 euros I spent on it? Very. If you are reading this to see if you should buy this or not, then let me say that. This game isn’t a requirement, but if you enjoyed the first Fallstreak as much as I did then it is well worth the price.

I Walk Among Zombies Vol. 3

I Walk Among Zombies Vol. 3

While the third installation isn’t bad, and I personally think it’s still worth reading for some semblance of a finale, its direction changes from the first two games to be more purely action-based, which the writer seems inexperienced with when you consider the conflicts and resolutions. Speaking of resolutions, there are few, if any, supplied to any of the plot-lines while simultaneously turning once main characters into irrelevant nobodies. There are times when the writing is well-paced, and times where it was clearly rushed, pushing past written barriers with nonsensical ease. While I am openly criticizing the game for its blatant faults, I still remain of the opinion that those who read the first two should read the third.

Vol. 1-2 is like watching a movie with this amazing world building and immersion to the plot.

Vol. 3 is like the author realized he wanted to end it ASAP and promptly dumped it down the drain, potential and all. As if the story forgot what it was and just booked it for the exit with no regards. Loose ends? Previous new characters? Previously opened plot avenues that begs to be explored upon? This volume didn’t even brush upon them.

Play Vol. 1-2 and let it live on in your head. Play Vol. 3 if you want to end it on a sour note.

DAEMON X MACHINA

DAEMON X MACHINA

Armored Core Lite.

This is the closest thing to Armored Core on PC, honestly. It feels and plays like watered and dumbed down Armored Core 4. It lacks customization from AC, but gameplay loop as well as presentation (aka being hired by various Corporations that fighting each other) is very close. Story is absolute cringe and not worth discussing nor following. I can point out some pros and cons to break down the game

Pros:

-Closest thing to Armored Core on PC

-Plays and feels almost as AC4

-Had people who developed AC in dev team

I can highly recommend this game, it’s no armor core that’s for sure however the game does provided a lot of customization however most of it would be “locked” until you encounter that part for the mech or weapon type but overall the game is fun, story is excellent and characters are splendid I actually like about 3 or 4 that are my favorite that doesn’t the rest are bad it’s just my personal tastes really.

Light Fairytale Episode 1

Light Fairytale Episode 1

I originally bought this game out of boredom. Having played everything in my library over again looking for a refreshing narrative; something I could hover my cursor over and think, “this, this is well written.”

I eventually bought a kindle and put a Hiatus on gaming for several months, disappointed at the lack of any new titles containing a decent narrative. I initially broke this hiatus at the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and I was happy with what the game offered. Yet, still, the narrative end of the game felt passive and only served to augment the gameplay.

Real player with 5.5 hrs in game

Definitely can’t recommend this game as a stand-alone, though that may change if/when he releases the complete story and bundles them together in some way. But as it stands, it is a very incomplete and barebones jrpg. But let’s start with some positives.

Positives

• Music: Definitely was the best part of this game. All the music sounds really good and enjoyable enough to listen to outside of the game.

• Setting: While it really does come off being a pretty generic jrpg world, it is interesting enough to keep your attention.
