Short, but interesting. Cute imagery, and overall it’s a lot of fun. I’ve spent more on things that were a lot less fun that this read was.

Iwaihime

This is gonna be my first time reviewing a game/visual novel so bare with me here

There will probably be some MINOR spoilers

Honestly the story was unsettling and great at first but as it went on I honestly started to lose interest, it got boring and tiresome to read, maybe I’m just not a visual novel person but my main gripe was with the main protagonist.

Suzumu is an incredibly boring character who is lacking in flaws which made the whole story a chore to read, all these girls fawning over the most boring and generic character ever. Honestly, it made it hard to relate to the characters because they were all so in love with the most boring generic “anime boy hero i will save them with my plot armor!!!”. Literally so much plot armor throughout the story for him but then the ending is unsatisfying bc his plot armor fails near the end, won’t go into detail, the one time his plot armor shouldn’t have failed it did leading to this ending. The curses were disturbing and stuff at first but somehow they got less and less interesting the more they explained how they were not really a part of reality at all. Toe was really interesting and actually unsettling at first but gradually like when it explained the reasoning for her behaviors it kinda got more uninteresting to me for some reason. The DLC however, was the best part of the game, it was actually unsettling and disturbing and is what I paid to see, completely unnerving and great, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE SUSUHARA IS NOT PRESENT FOR THE MAJORITY OF IT, unfortunately he appears later in it tho. And also the entire thing with the dolls was really not expanded on a lot, there are a lot of doll imagery but its just revealed it really wasn’t much of a mystery vs the soot which was kinda lame. Also going to add that naturally since the protagonist was boring, so are all the romances.

Summarized version below!

It’s Spooktober, and as someone that thrives on horror games, movies, and other media, it’s one of the best times of the year. So here we have a horror visual novel written by the same guy that did Higurashi. Yeah, that’s pretty much my calling.

Story:

So right off the bat, if you’re familiar with the author’s other works, you’ll already know that any story from him is going to be quite the ride and that is no exception here with Iwaihime. It’s dark, it’s depressing, and it’s even outright nasty at times, but that’s par for the course given the writer’s track record. In fact, it doesn’t take long before the game goes into full-blown descriptions of humans dying in the most brutal way possible, with organs flying everywhere and this overall sense of dread that never quite leaves the writing, even towards the end of the game.

WARRIORS OROCHI 4 Ultimate - 無双OROCHI3 Ultimate

WARRIORS OROCHI 4 Ultimate - 無双OROCHI3 Ultimate

I missed Warriors Orochi 3 on consoles, so getting this on PC is really a treat.

Well, for starters, it’s the same Warriors Formula since PS2, so anyone who wants to sit on a couch (or chair) and slaughter NPCs, you’ll feel right at home.

Pros:

[olist]

  • It runs smoothly in 60 FPS most of the time - although it drops to 40-ish when you use some magic, especially with that bow.* Same old Warriors formula, not that one in DW 9. Something you can really enjoy.* Checkpoints - This is an incredible boon, you don’t have to repeat all those annoying moments in the game just because you get hit by lots of arrows in Chaos mode.

So, blazing through both vanilla WO4 and WO4U for the first time, and getting somewhat up the final tower in Infinity Mode, I think I’m finally in the position to give this game a proper review.

TL;DR: It’s an extremely solid entry in the Warriors lineup, especially considering the combat from both DW8 & SW4-II are here + Sacred Treasure system, so I feel it’s worth a purchase. However, it is undeniably weaker compared to WO3U in terms of richness of features, and presentation in terms of visuals, story, and unique environments.

99 Spirits

99 Spirits

99 Spirits is a very charming Japanese indie game. It combines elements from a few genres including Visual Novels, Turn based battles, lite character progression elements and even monster collecting.

The first half of 99 Spirits consists of the Visual Novel cutscenes that progress the games story - developing the characters and allowing the plot to progress. There is no voice acting for these cutscenes but this didn’t bother me because characters only ever speak in short sentances so it makes it very easy to read. As the game progresses, the story and characters develop in some unexpected ways. The premise starts off fairly simple: the world is inhabited by demons called ‘Tsukumogami’ that possess everyday objects and attack humans. You play as a swordswomen called Hanabusa who is trying to destroy them. However, over the course of the game the story explores many different themes like love, family, loss, betrayal and more. I was very surprised at how dark the game becomes towards the final few chapters. Throughout the course of the game you will have a few choices that can even change the ending depending on these choices. It’s a good story overall and there are a lot of optional conversations and characters that add depth to the world and characters.

To start, I give this game a recommend with the basis it is for old-school RPG players who can handle a bit of repetitive grind to get to those lovely story pieces. If you dislike going through very similar battles multiple times to find out what happens in the story, then this probably isn’t for you. For me, however, I found the story worth the grind.

99 Spirits feels like a combination of an old-school console JRPG with quick-time combat and a strategic layer of monster catching to gain new and very important abilities. The combat is based on first guessing the enemy spirit’s name which is initially pretty tricky but this is solved by the acquisition of items you can buy/find in game (or you can use one of the awesome community guides). Combat is further modified by visiting a shrine and upgrading your weapon to speed up/simplify battles (almost to the point of removing the guessing game entirely - good yet weird since that’s a big part of the game’s uniqueness). One advantage 99 Spirits has over older JRPGs is that you can walk around enemies and skip most battles rather than be constantly stuck fighting random invisible encounters.

Mysteria ~Occult Shadows~

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I really like this game, and I am amazed at the effort the developers put in to this. And I realize there is gonna be another update but I might edit my review when that happens. But for the current version, I can’t recommend this game unless it’s on sale cheap enough.

Pros:

  • Catgirl main character!!! :) (the only model that looks the most detailed in my opinion)

  • Other characters are cute. The models could use work but it’s fine; generic looking but not terrible.

  • Scenery is vibrant and looks nice (sometimes)

This is an overview from a player who purchased this game when it was in early access, and a fan of Final Unreality. This overview may not be neutral enough, and may have some grammatical errors, but I will base on the game itself to tell you why I still recommend it.

1. This game is fun enough. I love jumping on the lotus, and I love the mini game in the castle. As an action game, it basically build an playable battle system (and a powerful chain blade). I know it’s not good enough, but I think it’s playable. The production team know they won’t compete with those historical action series, so they did their best to make the game fun enough. And most importantly, I like it.

A beautiful adventure game with “retro” design sensibilities that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

A classic tale of an epic, heroic journey to defeat a powerful evil being, paired with a huge and fantastically crafted world to explore. Presentation is definitely this game’s strength, to the point it can sometimes become overwhelming. A few things I didn’t like was that the game draws out for too long on some parts of the story and because of this, the combat can become tiresome due to it not being used to the fullest. Port itself is excellent and while 60 fps would have been amazing, the 30fps cap is understandable and doesn’t get in the way.

Drip-drop… she is coming for you…

TW: graphic content, horror elements

Game’s premise:

**_You play as a typical attractive main character who appears to be tired of daily dose of love confessions coming from fellow schoolgirls.

After rejecting one more girl being close to bringing upon you her romantic confession, you stumble upon an odd dressed girl outside of school who seems to have been taking a look at you for a while, maintaining her distance.

After bringing to you some questionable information about having intentions of keeping you safe and spelling a so-defined-by-her spell on you, she leaves you stating that you will find her punctually after school at the same spot._**

Wet Steps takes you for a short yet intriguing ride with some rather nice horror elements. It’s well-paced despite being so short and provides you with different endings that are quite good. However, it’s not without faults.

First things first, the writing could use some work. Now, the description is pretty decent and has character – which is kind of vital as it’s written in first person. However, it does something strange, and after consulting several people on it we all agree: the italics for thinking makes no sense. If the text was written in third person for the description and so on, putting italics on thinking would be understandable here. But since it’s already in first person, it instead disrupts the writing.

Final Fantasy Love Stories? Pfft

This RPG i played it over three years amidst all the work and disappointments I had lol. and it is a real gem. Its basic outline is like 3/4 good FF games comprised together. But the story is a very powerful one and has one of the beautiful romantic storylines ever. The gameplay is pretty interesting, it has many locations, quests, equipment, forging, enemies and so manyyyy easter eggs hidden inside. It has this range of achievements that are so difficult and can be time consuming, to my knowledge only 3 people completed all achievements til date. I also think some achievements are bugged and that’s also a reason but regardless this is a pretty good game to play. Also this is one of the games where you can see how much the developers have cared for you, the small clock on the right up, good controls, mouse camera option etc. I was touched by it.
