AI: The Somnium Files

AI: The Somnium Files

What makes a game good? Is it the story? The characters? Or perhaps, the graphics?

You see, to me, it’s the combination of the writing, the characters, the soundtracks, and a strong voice acting performance. AI: The Somnium Files fills all the criteria, hence, making this a good game. Actually? Scratch that, it’s better than “good”, it’s a wonderful game and i don’t have to be a detective like, say, the protagonist of AI, Kaname Date to figure that much. But you might wonder, what is AI: The Somnium Files?

An AI for an Eye

It’s been a while since I was this hooked on a game and this one hooked me right from the start and didn’t let go. I was supposed to just test it to see if it works on my potato laptop, but I couldn’t put it down. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me experience a whiplash of emotions.

AI: The Somnium Files is a game by Uchikoshi Kotaro, the creator of the famous Zero Escape trilogy, and developed by Spike Chunsoft so you should expect high production values. It’s an adventure/visual novel hybrid similar to Zero Escape, but this time the two segments are completely intertwined every step of the way. It gave me that same feeling of a larger looming mystery you gradually reveal in a non-linear way the previous trilogy had. It’s also quite different at the same time.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

This game sparked my love of Danganronpa and it is without a doubt one of my favorite games. I guess I could go so far as to say it -is- my favorite game. I’ve put 152 hours into the game, I’ve completed all the achievements. I’ve been through every game in the game universe. There is Danganronpa 2, Danganronpa Another Episode, Danganronpa V3 and then the anime. I’ve collected different things from this game. I can’t recommend it more. It’s hard to define but

This is a murder mystery game. It’s deep, chilling and brutal at times. You have to collect evidence and then present it at the class trial, convicting one of your classmates and the trial is rife with things you need to do in order to succeed. You have a trust meter. If it runs out, your classmates no longer believe anything you have to say. I highly…HIGHLY encourage you try it. This one game I bought on a whim, captured my heart. So yeah, of course I’m going to give it a massively positive review!

I did like this game quite a bit. 7/10 if I had to put a number on it. 8/10 if it were longer. The game does a fair job of making you like most of the characters at least a bit. The story is interesting enough, and does a good job keeping you guessing as to what is going on in the big picture. I think the only real flaw I can think of is more of a game design pet peeve. The ending you get is largely, if not entirely dependent on your final decision. I like it a lot more when choices throughout the game determine the ending, rather that the final scene being the game changing moment for the whole story. Still though, it’s a good game, creepy enough, fun to play, good story. Would recommend.

Really fun game, clever puzzles without being frustrating or way too easy (looking at you skyrim) a whodunit kind of plot with Phoenix Wright/Danganroppa style interludes in between puzzle sections, did scare me quite a few times and the overwall plot of what happened in the monastery in the past and how it relates to what is happening now i really enjoyed.

Its Fairly short ate around 2:30ish hours depending on how well you do with the puzzles but its well made,no boring padding and barely any backtracking trough previous areas, maps feel cleverly designed with its connection to previously visited areas trough new entrances,it is a simple game but a very well made one, highly recommend

CHAOS;CHILD

CHAOS;CHILD

Spoiler Free; A beginner-friendly review new to visual novels.

My rating: 9/10

Discovered this store page because of the anime.

I remember watching 3 episodes of the anime Chaos;Head around 2013 and I decided very quickly not to continue watching it.

Initially, I thought the reason why I discontinued watching C;H was due to my severe depression that peaked around that time.

Fast forward to early 2021 and I was reminiscing about STEINS;GATE (the anime) and how awesome it was.

The S;G VN is something I’ve known since the early 2000s, but never gave the chance to read; I only watched the anime.

I’ll start my review of by saying that I’m a very big fan of the Science Adventure series and that this game Is also my favorite game anyway, so this review is probably going to be biased. With that In mind here Is my review. Chaos;Child is the 4th entry in the Science adventure series and Is a thematic sequel to Chaos;Head. While I would heavily recommend playing Chaos;Head first it Is by no means necessary to fully enjoy Chaos;Child. Chaos;Child Is set six years after Chaos;Head In the restored city of Shibuya which had suffered from a devastating earthquake that destroyed the city. The cast of characters are mostly survivors of the earthquake who all are now living in the newly restored Shibuya.

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

First, a brief note to the uninitiated:

This is not a pleasant story, whatever the screenshots may have led you to believe. Beneath the veneer of a cheesy, run-of-the-mill school-comedy lies a cruel world of madness, terror, and violence. Major characters die routinely; sometimes on-screen, sometimes off, but never in a peaceful manner. Nonetheless, it is a highly compelling experience, and very rewarding if you can endure to the end of the series. If this intrigues you, feel free to read on, but those looking for nothing more than a stereotypical anime-harem-style rom-com would do well to look elsewhere. Higurashi may resemble that on a superficial level, but this is a series that delights in letting the reader think they know what is going on, even as it brings the façade crumbling down around them.

TLDR: The thumb is pointing up. That means good.

Important Information to Know

This game covers the first arc (Abducted by Demons arc, about 2 manga volumes long) of the story, while it says Ch.1 this game covers the first 4-5 episodes of the show and has something like 12 chapters in the game. This game is a visual novel with about 15 hours of reading. A visual novel is basically a book with relevant background music, sound effects, background art, and character art to enhance the reading experience.

The Snake in the well was happy, for it had naught to do with what happened outside the well.

And you were happy too, for you did not know what happened outside the well. - Frederica Bernkastel**

Just… whoa… Every time, I swear that this won’t either surprise or annoy me, it ends up being a new creep-bomb… Ehm, sorry. This is the third game in Higurashi When They Cry series: Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi. Invoking what I gathered from the publishing information in Manga Gamers forums priorly, the original series consist of 8 chapters, which will probably keep inventing new and refreshing ways to both consternate and creep us out continuously, both with the imaginatively disturbing and the eerily mysterious that serves as the main body of these Hinamizawa stories.

Higurashi, with this release, has possibly become my favorite series of all time. Every release adds something, has a different flavor, and never gets boring. This one leaves even less room for setup than before, knowing that, because you played the other two chapters, it doesn’t need to waste its time with introductions. By chapter 3, the plot is already in motion, and things are starting to get incredbily sad…and creepy.

Let me warn you: This episode is depressing. If you can’t take representations of child abuse well, then I would suggest you stay away from this. It isn’t the most detailed description/situation out there, but it’s enough that it gets the point across and is extremely depressing (and disturbing). So, with that out of the way, let’s get into the basic plot of this chapter!

Little One - A Visual Novel

Little One - A Visual Novel

Considering that is my first VN game I ever played, this is honestly great, I am not fan of VN titles since they really bore me if I only keep reading dialogues, but this one hooked me up that I have to play many times to get and understand what is going on since I keep getting bad ending for Jake.

I’m still trying to get the rest of the ending and the true ending. But I didn’t expect that a game would actually make me think of my decisions since the money is also limited and I have noticed that one time I did extra work 3x Jake went from Calm to Average that I avoided it in some part of the game, but made me miss an item that is very crucial to unlocking some of his scenes that will give your trust an increase. So far my highest trust is 119 and I heard that you need to get past 120 in order to get a decent ending. All I have left is Andy’s ending and I will continue playing this until I get all the endings.

LITTLE ONE

“Can you take care of him for a while?"

Reading a visual novel set in the early 1900s is not something I expected, while browsing Reddit I saw an advertisement for the game. With over seven hours in the game, I am yet to even achieve half of the endings. While far from being Dark Souls, expect something on the difficult side compared to other games of the genre. You can’t brute force your way through the VN thanks to the RPG mechanics.

You must take care of Jake, a traumatised and shaken boy who shows signs of psychosis and abuse. This is no simple task both for you and the aged woman you play as.
