FORZA POLPO!

FORZA POLPO!

I’ve been helping to beta test this and the experience has been an absolute blast, even in its early access state. Great replayability and the controls/mechanics have been well-tuned. It reminds me a lot of the PS1 Jumping Flash series from back in the day. Buying copies for all my friends and family members this season.

Go go Polpo!!!

Forza Polpo is a delightful first-person platformer. Excellent controls and nuanced movement make the varied stages a blast to explore, encouraging you to scour every nook to improve your score. The world is dripping with charm and a striking visual flair making it instantly memorable, and the music is great. There are, of course, comparison to be made with Jumping Flash, but even in its early access state, the mechanics of Forza Polpo are far more refined, and it has enough ideas of its own to stand out as a unique and engaging game in its own right.

As a lover of Dragon Ball, I really enjoyed playing Ultimate Wall Defense Force!

It’s an anime style tower defense game, and your main goal is to defeat all of the enemies before they destroy your tower. You play as a powerful character with several abilities to defend waves and waves of enemies. I found flying around to be super fun, and the large number of abilities to use to kill your enemies really nail the power fantasy of what it would be like to be Goku.

There are even boss encounters after each level which I found very engaging and challenging.

Let’s get the obvious cons out of the way first. The ground textures look like muddled shit and in some missions you won’t be able to tell the difference between the ground and the clouds(thankfully your instruments are still visible in 3rd person so you’ll know if you’re losing altitude). The rest of the game looks like an emulated PS2 game as it does run in whatever resolution your monitor supports without upscaling.

The only things that look good are water and smoke. Destroyed enemies will catch fire which lingers for the rest of the missions so by the time it’s over you’ll see fire and black smoke everywhere as you look around.

Next to action, racing, RTS, city management, classic arcade, and shmups, one genre of games I’ve always liked is that of the flight genre. Growing up with Ace Combat and Microsoft Flight Simulator, it was another genre that I’ve added to my gaming repertoire.

Enter Raiders Sphere 4th, a doujin game in the vein of the classic Ace Combat titles but with a science fiction vibe. The only (thus far) game in the series to have been localized, I’ve played and beaten the campaign of this game twice. So, how does it stack with that much experience?

I liked the story. But the landscape, as for me, doesn’t fit the idea a little.

BLUE SABERS: Early Mission

BLUE SABERS: Early Mission

Overview

Use conventional and three types of special weapons to overcome difficult situations.

Take control of the battlefield with support aircraft!

Long-established STG development team, Blue&White, the first new one in 13 years, and a new origin!

Story

More than a decade of warfare between the MUltinational COmpanys Community (MUCOC) and the International Unification Treaty Organization (IUTO) has left both sides exhausted and A stalemate had been reached.

To break the deadlock, the MUCOC fleet gathered its remaining forces and launched Operation Earth Descent.

Although the IUTOs were allowed to descend, they put up a desperate resistance to prevent the expansion of the front line.

However, there were not enough surplus forces, and the counter-offensive was left in the hands of a mish-mash of new recruits and reserve forces.

The name of the unit was the “Blue Sabres”.

Thus the battle later known as “Second MUCOC War” has began.

Gameplay

The main point of the game is how to make a way with powerful weapons and supply.

Break out of a difficult situation by mastering three types of special weapons, which are limited to normal armament and singular numbers.

Calling for your support aircraft, Garuda, allows you to refuel your special weapons and restore your ship’s shields.

The key to victory is the timing of calling the Garuda.

Features

  • A shmup with a unique supply system.

  • Dynamic camera work with 3D graphics added to the 2D shooting experience.

  • 7 stages + Tutorial

  • 6 ships + 2 support aircrafts

  • Gamepad supported.

Maria the Witch

Maria the Witch

It plays and feel like a mobile part, I’m not sure if it already is one, but I’m guessing so.

This game just doesn’t work on the PC, you’ll spend more time waiting for this game to launch more than you do playing, the graphics are charming and cute, all you’ll spend with this game is a few minutes of fun, it’s a kind of game that you’ll have to master by repetition, but it doesn’t really encourage you enough to keep repeating as it’s more tedious than it is fun.

That being said, the game is only a dollar, so you shouldn’t expect much of it, but that’s all up to you, whether you want to spend the dollar on this game, or something else.

A fun game with nice graphics and simple gameplay style.

The controls are quite easy: use a mouse to fly straigt and rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. This requires some time to master but once you learn it its quite easy. One problem I found is that it doesnt work with touchscreen loptops like lenovo yoga or dell inspiron 2 in 1 loptops because they only simulate right click on touch and this game requires to use both left and right mouse buttons repeatedly.

Since this is game is ported from mobile platform to PC the gameplay has some roots in flappy bird as well as other popular mobile games.

Disney Planes

Disney Planes

A really nice game. My kids like it and it has some simple modes (free flight, balloon pop) that even smaller children can play and have fun. The graphics are nice and the controls are good. The only thing that annoys me a bit is the limited and repeating phrases during races.

Real player with 16.1 hrs in game

This game is fun, you get to play as most of the main characters from the Planes movie. Story mode is pretty neat, other modes available. My biggest complaint is the on screen prompts are generic buttons, only thing that differentiates them is color. So it’s hard to tell what controls what. Game settings are just device choice, ie gamepad or keyboard; no mapping available. Using my gamepad I was able to figure out the controls, but for keyboard, it’s almost impossible. Once controls are figured out, it’s a great game.
